You mentioned your organization skills and your clipboard organization. I’m always looking for ways to make my shift easier. Do you think you could do a video on this?!
Omgggg it’s not even 2 minutes old and as soon as I got the notification I clicked. One more year till I graduate!!!! the main goal is to be a mommy baby travel nurse !!!!
I’m a mother/baby nurse and I LOVE hearing what other nurses do that I may not do or haven’t done yet on the unit! Yessss for part 2! Better yet, mother/baby nurse series🎉
I loved being a mother baby nurse! It’s very routine but it’s not all sunshine, and can be very fast paced some days lol I got into mother baby straight out of nursing school too.
The moms at my hospital require a lot. Blood pressure monitoring and meds, insulin & sugar checks, IV antibiotics, blood transfusions, hemorrhorages, vaccines, and we have a lot of C-sections, so that comes with a lot of nausea & nausea meds. We also take care of late preterm babies, babies on IV antibiotics, babies with jaundice on phototherapy, babies with minor heart defects requiring echocardiograms, and we frequently have 8 patients and have gone up to 10 before. Oh, and providing lactation assistance, oh my. It takes so much time.
This is my goal after nursing school. I love the idea of working in the hospital setting. I love a task oriented day. I live one on one time with my patients. This seems like a good fit for me. I appreciate this video. Do you think those of us with associate degrees and get hired into this position? Thank you
Fellow mother/baby nurse here and I have to say that keeping up with feedings is the hardest part for me...especially when all moms are breastfeeding and need help! My clipboard is full of self made notes with the requirements for SGA babies vs LGA or moms with limited prenatal care. It was so much to learn but I love it so much! Thanks for your videos!
@@b.freeman2118 I have a channel based on my travel nursing experiences (mostly travel based). I would love to talk more about the nursing side, but I find it hard to do sometimes. I do sprinkle things in here and there in our videos. What are some topics that would be interesting?

I work on M/B as a tech and it's definitely a completely different world from my previous Peds Trauma unit. I also like the ability to plan out your shift but it can get really crazy with admissions, tasks, oh and the families 😅😂 It's interesting how each M/B unit is different too. The techs on my unit do all of the baby tasks (vitals, PKUs, CCHDs, baths, TCB,etc...) and d/c foleys and help walk the C/S patients.
I could never be an ED nurse, I need structure! Just about to start a new position in endoscopy...just hoping it isn't TOO much structure!! Love hearing about different nursing specialize, thank you!!

New graduate nurse here and so many people tell me don’t go straight into mother baby but that’s literally my dreaaaam and I want to stick with it that’s my passion you know?!
Definitely do it! I'm in my last semester of nursing school, I did my first semester placement in L&D and fell in love with that area of nursing! Now I'm doing my consolidation in med-surg and I dread going because I hate it compared to L&D and know I will never work in med-surg! I will definitely be starting my career in L&D! Do what makes you happy!
Thanks so much for all the info! I’m currently waiting on my preceptorship placement and hoping for mother/baby!! Your videos make me so excited for my future career as a mother/baby nurse 😊
As a mom who has breastfed 5 children and I'm only 31, I am sooo stoked about breastfeeding and I feel like I could teach a class about it lol! I love it, I'm still doing it with my youngest and I can't wait to share my experiences with my patients.
@@Citygal01 My comment was about sharing knowledge when asked from my patients, because I can’t share now because I’m not done with school. I’m an extern on an l&d unit so I can’t use or share what I know because that’s the actual nurse’s jobs. So my excitement stems from my anticipation of graduating and finally being able to answer questions when asked , not because I just can’t wait to talk about myself. I’m just passionate about the subject. Hopefully that clarifies what I meant here.
Yes! This video is so spot on. I previously also worked in the pediatric emergency room (which I loved) and am now in mother/baby. I'm not sure what I was expecting coming to mother/baby, but now that I've been here a few months, it's not what I was expecting lol a lot of ppl think it's "easy nursing", they call it boring and where nurses come to retire, but you def have to learn how to manage your time effectively because IT IS a very busy unit. Very much task oriented and fast paced. We may not be high acuity patients like ER or med/surg / tele, but some mom's have their issues that make your shift overwhelming. But I also miss the ER, the excitement of it and starting IV's and all the skill sets you get to practice on a regular basis. It's nice to know there's other nurses to feel how and what I feel ❤
Yeah...you lose your skills if you don't use them...I was a critical care nurse and I'm now in mental health, I'm about to get a PRN so I don't lose all my skills...I've been a nurse for 14 years....love what I do....🤗❤
can you do a video where you show us how you note take at work and organize your task? I love your videos. your such a mentor for me! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for this insight! After switching from Med/surg to ICU, I was wondering what it might be like being a mother/baby nurse in a relatively “happier” specialty. But whew, it sounds like it can be alot of exactly what I was trying to get away from with Med/surg (tons of patients + tons of tasks = little time with my patients)
I started as a mother baby nurse. And now I work as an Antepartum and sometimes we get PP overflow. I enjoy both but prefer Antepartum! I guess next will be L&D lol

I’m just trying to figure out what I’m interested in because I’m a junior(I’m skipped a grade hence why I’m 15 as a junior) btw love the video❤️
See if your school has like Votech or if they will let you get your CNA certification , at my highschool I have friends that got it at 16 years old. Then you can work in a hospital or nursing home and we work really closely with nurses
@@visionmyasia9466 Hi, my school has a CNA program but the things is it takes up like 3 or 4 periods which is almost half of our schedule. I want to take other classes(electives) to see what I’m interested in and my core classes so I wouldn’t have space for that program.
Most hospitals and clinics won’t elect you shadow independently unless you’re 18+, but with a CNA program it’s built into your program to shadow!
Do you have to perform the circumcisions? Or a doctor?
Doctor, the nurse just does set up and comfort the baby during the procedure. I got to observe one during my OB clinical.
