I just love that you most certainly don't take yourself too seriously. I've said this before and i say it again: this is very, very entertaining in deed. Keep it up! The hard fact behind all this lovely goofiness is that your photos are absolutely stunning. And my favorite is composition 3.
I like them all, number 3 is my fav, it is striking, draws my eyes in. The way all those gnarly branches are reaching out and the light and colour. Love your photography Gavin, and commentary always good (with the ocassional joke here and there lol)
Without a doubt, we require more of these skits. Brilliant spreads BY THE WAY. The subtleties in the second pano leave enough room for zero distractions. The haze of light spilling through is wonderful. Keep at it.
Hi Gavin, great video, lot of humor like always and great photos. for me number threee would be the clear winner because it shows the size of the tree.
Merry Christmas Gavin, was a great Christmas Day suprise to wake up to a video from you here in New Zealand! Photo 3 is the strongest composition imo - much more pleasing to see the tree reaching out at full length, but no. 2 makes the best use of the light... I think I'd lean towards number 3. Happy choosing!
I like #3 the best. I prefer the trunk set further right with the branches filling the image. The grasses to the left, lit by sunlight add to the image and wider shot with the lake enhances the depth in the image. All are great, nut I prefer #3
No doubt for me - it’s shot no 3. It tells more of the story of the tree and seems to be a more balanced composition. The wider context helps with identifying its scales and the softer green tones really help the tree structure to stand out. What a beauty!
Beautiful shots as always but I prefer shot number 3, purely because you've got more of the tree in the actual shot. Have a great Christmas and thanks for all the content this year. I look forward to the new videos next year.
The most fun and informative photog channel on RUclips continues to get better and better with every year. Merry Xmas to you and Amanda, Gavin. May this holiday and 2024 see only the best life has to offer granted to you.
3. It captures the size and majesty of the tree without giving up any of the detail. Plus it puts the tree in its surrounding context. BTW - Let me mention this is one of your best vids ever. Probably reflects your passion for this project. Great job. Thanks.
The light in 2 is photogasmic, but the composition of 3 is next level. Shows the tree for all of its majesty. The stories that tree could tell. For a life goal, being there, finding the composition and making the image, 3 wins hands down
Found your channel and enjoying the content. Great mix of value content and personality.. Lock Lomond was part of our recent trip to the UK (Cameron House), and you’ve even been close to my location on your trip to Upstate NY capturing waterfalls. You’re making my gear envy of the X2D hard to ignore and it just might be what I need for my travel photos..
I like 2 and 3 for different reasons. 3 for showing more of this beautiful tree, also the composition seems more pleasing, but 2 evokes that safe, warm feeling of actually standing UNDER the tree, which is also nice.
Love the backward running Ram, at 08:38 did he not want to be in your shot or did he think you were Thomas Heaton, and ran back when he say you??? haha great shots man, Well done!!
Agree about the trees Gavin. One of my favourites to photograph. Found one on its own recently in Langley BC. It was all on its own. Private property, so I figured I would get it from the road. Got out of my car, and if you can believe it, just at that moment a film crew and their convoy showed up and drove onto the property right up to the tree!!!! What are the freakin chances?! It was foggy too. I did end up finding another one nearby, but in that case the fog ruined it and it was quite noisy. Love love love the pictures of the trees you’ve taken here. LOL to the book in the hedge! Can’t decide between the 3 pictures, they are all beautiful! At first I liked the 1st shot you took the best, but the 3rd one was gorgeous with the entire branch(es) extending all the way out.
I personally like shot #3 the most. What makes that tree unique are those long low branches, and this is the shot that really shows this. It is like a literal explosion of life bursting out of the ground in all directions.
Its No2 for me Gavs, the colours and separation are far more pleasing to my eye. Many thanks for releasing a video on Christmas Eve and Merry Xmas to yourself and Amanda, All the best for 2024 :)
Love the tree shots; magnificent tree! Not as amazing as that sheep which was walking perfectly in reverse in one of the shots :) The feud footage was hilarious. Merry Christmas to you and Amanda!
Great video, very cool tree. I like photo 3 I just like the long branches leading back into the tree and I just prefer the lighting. Glad you put the laughs in at the end that was funny.
I love you guys together - so funny! Now you need to add Uncle Grumpy more often! My favorite shot was #3 with (not that it matters) #1 as 2nd, and #2 as 3rd.
I got stuck in a bog once Gavin. Worst vindaloo I've ever had..... So glad you managed to photograph that tree after all those years. Merry Christmas to you and Amanda.
Another brilliantly informative, entertaining and inspiring video, Gavin! Wishing you and Amanda (and Thomas Heaton!) a very Happy Christmas and a sensational New Year.
thanks for a great year of giggles, i think no. 2 is my favourite, trees are about my fav thing ever so i think the three stories of the trees is kinda clincher for me. all the best to all the crew of hardcastle productions. its the best thing on sunday.
Hi Gavin, great video again!👍 I'm just trying to workout the whereabouts this tree is located Loch Lomond...looks like the road heading back towards Drymen and Stirling...am I close? I wouldn't mind having a look at it myself as I don't live too far from that area. BTW....lovely Scottish weather😉 Hard one to decide...either 2 or 3...leaning towards number 3...not sure why but my eye is drawn to the enormity of the branches spreading throughout the image. Anyhoo hope you and Amanda enjoyed your visit to my beautiful 🏴 ...hurry back...and take that bloody rain with you😉 Merry Christmas 🎅
110% number 3. And as always, love your videos Gavin, striking a great balance between being entertaining and informative. Merry Christmas to you and Amanda!
Hilarious as usual Gavin! Oh, and 3 great shots of "the tree". Shot #1 is my favourite - because of the composition. That tree in the background is perfect! Have a great Christmas and holiday season. See you in the future hopefully. Cheers.
Always fun to watch your videos, Gavin. I would pick #3 from your images. Always learn something new as well - had no idea Scotland had backwards running sheep! 😆
Merry Christmas Gavin! My eye keeps going to #1. I think it’s because it stands out more against the background and I do like the colors a bit more too. They’re all fabulous though!
Fun video! As to which photo, if I have to choose, I'd say #2. I like the balance and the limb in the upper left gives it some energy. It has the type of lighting and contrast I like as well.
I think number 3 is the best for focusing specifically on the tree, where everything else fades more to background, but I love the light and the shoreline in number 2. Number 3 makes me appreciate the beauty of the tree specifically, while number 2 makes me more focused on the place overall. I personally like the light and contrast in these two better than number 1, but number 1 definitely captures the mossy texture and detail on the tree better and has a bit more of a lush quality to it that's also nice.
Oh my god, this one is a classic mate. Loved the fight scene and bruising 🤣 What the heck did the neighbours think when you were filming that! My favourite shot is number 3. I think the texture of the bark is amazing and the bonus skeletal tree in the background is awesome. All the best Gavin and Amanda, looking forward to more shenanigans in 2024 👌🍻🍷
Number 2 for me, I love the dappled light on the floor through the branches and the pop of the darker greens, even in the distance. All great shots though.
3 is my favorite. 1 and 2 fell a little too tight where 3 has a little more breathing space and my eyes can explore. 1 and 2 feel intentionally cropped, 1 feels more natural and I get a feeling for the place.
Or perhaps this book? www.fototripper.com/chasing-awe-landscape-photography-book-gavin-hardcastle/
Never heard of it
I SHOULD mention it more often.@@mondujar279
🤣@@fototripper
So glad we finally cleared the air.
Would have been nice to go on that Arran trip though...
Farting doesn’t count as clearing the air. 😂
It’s a bio weapon 😂
Oh, a Christmas Eve treat to watch. Merry Christmas Gavin, Amanda and the cats. . Hope you have a good one. 👍🏻
#2. I love this composition with the tree & water in the background. Also love the dapple lighting & colors. Loved the video too.
Another informative video, Gavin, particularly loved the way you got the ram to run backwards for you at approx. 08:38! Magic! Merry Christmas...
You beat me to it
I love it when people spot the details ;)
Oh my this was brilliant. So good that you added the bloopers because. Don’t know what made me laugh harder. Just brilliant.
Roy cracked me up. The look on his face is priceless.
I just love that you most certainly don't take yourself too seriously. I've said this before and i say it again: this is very, very entertaining in deed. Keep it up! The hard fact behind all this lovely goofiness is that your photos are absolutely stunning. And my favorite is composition 3.
Great video Gavs… 😂. The walk-in on Tom and fight scene were hysterical!
Hey, the Hasselblad really withstands the weather! Lovely photography as usuals and the humor was can't stop laughing!
Nr 3 looks impressive, the long shot makes it outstanding! Love the shot 😍
Love that the sheep run backwards (at 8:39).
Image #2 has depth from the different elements and highlights. It keeps your eye in the photo. Job well done.
3, lovely lines and more of the left side of the tree…awesome.
I like them all, number 3 is my fav, it is striking, draws my eyes in. The way all those gnarly branches are reaching out and the light and colour. Love your photography Gavin, and commentary always good (with the ocassional joke here and there lol)
Love the lighting in #2. The book signing cracked me up! Actually your videos always give me a good laugh! 😂 ❤
OMG this was one of your funniest in a while. Liked image number 3 the best.
#2 for me is the strongest. But the whole video is just amazing, hilarious! And its good to see you two F4 guys together again
Without a doubt, we require more of these skits. Brilliant spreads BY THE WAY. The subtleties in the second pano leave enough room for zero distractions. The haze of light spilling through is wonderful. Keep at it.
I liked the light and color of #2. Cheers!
Happy choosing!
i think number 2 shot of the tree. the light is fantastic and really brings out the colours. another great video
What I found amazing in this video is that Scottish sheep can run backwards as fast as they can forwards @ 8:38 What a strange lot.... 🤣
Yes, I saw that as well.
What a beautiful tree. My order of preference would be 2-3-1. But the backwards running sheep at 8:38 is the easter egg 🙂
#2 I like the colours and that nicely lit "beach" behind. The light in that one is the best
#3 for me. Amazing. The second one is lovely, but the third feels straight from a fairytale to me. Congrats, Gavin.
The lighting and composition of no. 3 are my favourite.
Merry Christmas to you all.
I love it when you guys get together!
When you showed #3 right after you took it, I knew that would be a keeper. The branches lead your eye throughout the image. It's great!
I like #3 the best. I prefer the trunk set further right with the branches filling the image. The grasses to the left, lit by sunlight add to the image and wider shot with the lake enhances the depth in the image. All are great, nut I prefer #3
Three, definitely. You see the magnificence of the width of the tree rather than focusing on the big trunk.
No doubt for me - it’s shot no 3. It tells more of the story of the tree and seems to be a more balanced composition. The wider context helps with identifying its scales and the softer green tones really help the tree structure to stand out. What a beauty!
Fantastic episode. Merry Christmas!. Photo #2 is my favourite.
Brill so funny lol great video photos of the tree are amazing the first wide shot looks great keep the videos coming
3. It captures the size and majesty of the tree without giving up any of the detail. Plus it puts the tree in its surrounding context. BTW - Let me mention this is one of your best vids ever. Probably reflects your passion for this project. Great job. Thanks.
#2.The rays of sun filtering through the branches and hitting the ground thus bringing the grass to life is just wonderful.
A tree so magnifiqua deserves to be shown in full. For me #3. Merry Christmas to you And Amanda
The light in 2 is photogasmic, but the composition of 3 is next level. Shows the tree for all of its majesty. The stories that tree could tell. For a life goal, being there, finding the composition and making the image, 3 wins hands down
The 3 photos are absolutely stunning!! But I choose number 3!
Always fantastic videos !!! Merry Xmas from Portugal!!!

You’re making my gear envy of the X2D hard to ignore and it just might be what I need for my travel photos..
Number two, the warmer but more contrast from the light is great. It also highlights the curve of the shore to the background tree too.
I like 2 and 3 for different reasons. 3 for showing more of this beautiful tree, also the composition seems more pleasing, but 2 evokes that safe, warm feeling of actually standing UNDER the tree, which is also nice.
#1 like seeing more of the environment. Merry Christmas to you and Amanda. Bring Roy home with you, he’s hilarious
Love the backward running Ram, at 08:38 did he not want to be in your shot or did he think you were Thomas Heaton, and ran back when he say you??? haha great shots man, Well done!!
Im glad I'm not the only one that saw that :-)
#3 for me. It’s being able to see more of the branches. Great video as always. I don’t get why you don’t have several hundred thousand subscribers.
I know. it's like I've been shadow banned or something...
Agree about the trees Gavin. One of my favourites to photograph. Found one on its own recently in Langley BC. It was all on its own. Private property, so I figured I would get it from the road. No 2 for me with the dappled light coming through. Love your work
Merry Christmas to you and Amanda
I personally like shot #3 the most. What makes that tree unique are those long low branches, and this is the shot that really shows this. It is like a literal explosion of life bursting out of the ground in all directions.
Very funny ..the out takes hilarious, your dad is quite the character in his own right. Thanks I needed a laugh today.
Its No2 for me Gavs, the colours and separation are far more pleasing to my eye. Many thanks for releasing a video on Christmas Eve and Merry Xmas to yourself and Amanda, All the best for 2024 :)
"Go on Tom, ypu show im lad" ha ha, gotta love Roy, he's class !
#3, I just love seeing all the tendrils of the tree and I feel like the light is better. Absolutely fantastiqua!
Thanks!

I got stuck in a bog once Gavin. Worst vindaloo I've ever had..... So glad you managed to photograph that tree after all those years. Merry Christmas to you and Amanda.
Like all three but #3 really shows the magnificent scale of the canopy; it also benefits from not having the distraction of the sky.
#3 is great! Appreciate all the hard work that goes into your videos!
Another brilliantly informative, entertaining and inspiring video, Gavin! Wishing you and Amanda (and Thomas Heaton!) a very Happy Christmas and a sensational New Year.
Number 3 is clearly the best. pushing the trunk to the right and capturing the strong horizontal branches across two-thirds of the screen looks great.
#2 love the contrast and shadows!!! And you folks are funny!
#3 is the keeper!! It gives more of the glorious tree to see! the long branch does draw you into the image
thanks for a great year of giggles, i think no. 2 is my favourite, trees are about my fav thing ever so i think the three stories of the trees is kinda clincher for me. all the best to all the crew of hardcastle productions. its the best thing on sunday.

Merry Christmas 🎅
Merry Christmas. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge throughout the year. Number 3 for me.
110% number 3. And as always, love your videos Gavin, striking a great balance between being entertaining and informative.
Merry Christmas to you and Amanda!
Brilliant images and brilliant content, thank you all.
Hilarious!
Love photo three the best, but wondering if you can use all three trees as part of a future composition tutorial?
😁😆😂 I like image #1, the light & shade contrast gives it better depth?
A fun episode GH
Thank you for your video content, Gavin, my wife and I really enjoy them! ❤
Image 3 … gives the scale of the tree and the reason it has been on your bucket list. Truly beautiful.
It's a feckin Loch!! 😅
Happy Christmas to you and Amanda. You have entertained me so much this year since being introduced to your channel. Ta
Lovely as always! Nice to see you and Thomas together! Happy holidays! :)
Got to say 3 for me for the light, but also love 2 for the strong branch that leads you into the frame and to the tree itself. All well done as usual!
Hilarious as usual Gavin! Oh, and 3 great shots of "the tree". Shot #1 is my favourite - because of the composition. That tree in the background is perfect! Have a great Christmas and holiday season. See you in the future hopefully. Cheers.
Merry Christmas Alan
Merry Christmas to you all. Look forward to seeing the next episode.
Great episode 😂, love the outtakes. Image 3 is my favourite, I like to see the tree in it’s full grandeur. Merry Christmas
Always fun to watch your videos, Gavin. I would pick #3 from your images. Always learn something new as well - had no idea Scotland had backwards running sheep! 😆
ha!ha!! Great stuff fellas! I like photo #2. But what do i know. Happy New Year to all. Be well.
Merry Christmas Gavin! My eye keeps going to #1. I think it’s because it stands out more against the background and I do like the colors a bit more too. They’re all fabulous though!
@8:35 Poor sheep was having a stroke being pulled into Gavins trouser tractor beam! ;)
Number 2 caught my attention because of the beautiful light and the composition including the trees off to the right.
Prefer #2 - like the way the light falls on the tree and grasses. Happy Christmas to you and Amanda 🎅🏻
Superb fight scene...I wonder will it make the Oscars..the bloopers at the end were some of the best I've ever seen..Happy Christmas
No chance of the Oscars. Not diverse enough.
Fun video! As to which photo, if I have to choose, I'd say #2. I like the balance and the limb in the upper left gives it some energy. It has the type of lighting and contrast I like as well.
Merry Christmas Gavin and Amanda! Hope your holidays are great!
Another brilliant video Gavin - thanks for all the videos this year and Merry Christmas
I think the top pano - number 3 :)
Thanks
Murray
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Gavin! Thank you for your hard work.
I think number 3 is the best for focusing specifically on the tree, where everything else fades more to background, but I love the light and the shoreline in number 2. Number 2 for me, I love the dappled light on the floor through the branches and the pop of the darker greens, even in the distance. All great shots though.
#3 for me as well Gavin. I think the wider composition gives more depth to the tree, plus I love the light/colors in that shot as well.
Damn! That’s so close to where I live. Next time, fototripper live event, and I will attend! Loads of love to you and Amanda ❤
3 ! Composition is stunning, and the light mama mia !
3 is my favorite. 1 and 2 fell a little too tight where 3 has a little more breathing space and my eyes can explore. 1 and 2 feel intentionally cropped, 1 feels more natural and I get a feeling for the place.
