It is truly remarkable how criminally under rated this record truly is. Ground breaking on multiple levels. There is and was no genre to "box" them into. Which is the problem with the industry as a whole. I agree with the posts below.. His ballads are still among my favorite all time, no contest
Truly, beautifully haunting. This song is a legitimate masterpiece, buried deep in the depths of the most talented Canadian rock songs. Matt and the band orchestrated this tune to perfection. It truly speaks deeply to one's ears, soul, and heart, and mine especially.
Listening to this song in high school had a really profound effect. Especially when it’s you’re final year sitting in English 12 looking out a window that is the entire length of the classrooms wall, located at a section of the school on top of hill overlooking a street with farms, trees, & a park on one side & massive suburbia on the other. While you’re observing classmates & friends thinking about how frustrating, temporary & disappointing this had all been while realizing - it never mattered.
You oughta be absolutely should be because your country far out shines your neighbors here just below you. There are so many great Canadian artists. I can’t even began to tell you how many of me, including this one. have influenced me as a musician and or sometimes just gotten me through my own dark Knight of the soul. 1000,000 years a lifetime ago when I used to do music professionally I was deeply touched that I actually did much better in Canada than I did when I was touring my own home country. Ontario and Manitoba so very kind and then another Canadian who saw my show in the late 90s actually came to see me when I was playing in Scotland a few years later, and I think that’s the only thing that exists any live show of mine on the RUclips archives although not because I put it there lol. I could listen to Matthew and the weakerthans and The tragically hip without ceasing never getting bored. I have not been there in almost 20 years, but Canada has a special spot in my heart. Does Matthew good hell yeah…. I was driving a cabin in Cleveland and my coworker was a man named Tim Shaw. I was going on some reckless runs because my brother had passed away that month and I was kind of hoping somebody else would take me out. This was in the 90s and the late Tim had a clever way of pushing me out of my comfort zone musically, wanting to hear me do a variety of styles and artists. In addition to my own stuff he gave me this album. I burned copy of it, and I fell in love with the last track, although that wasn’t the one he had, wanted to hear. He was holding out for I miss new wave which is still a pretty good song, but it doesn’t touch that final track for me. I’m sitting in a laundromat with my keyboard and now I feel like that because no one’s here.❤
You know the song where when you get back together with your best friends and its late after 10 drinks a and they are all wanna play sad songs and drink one more....
My all time favorite group! This coming from a metal head! They represent the pinnacle of Canadian rock in the 90's. A truly amazing movement only overshadowed by Grunge. An absolute musical treasure and I've been blessed with being able to enjoy every bit of it!
i can't help thinking the words are to/about a person Matt used to know or cared about a long time ago. Like a shadow, she is there... an image of a human burned in the mind but can never take physical shape again
All of matts music is a complete representation of his inner self. The struggle between mania and depression, you can hear it in his fast paced up beat songs - with depressing generally unhappy lyrics, and than with his slower sounding sad songs - with encouraging uplifting lyrics. He seems to juggle the good and bad from his disease in all of his music, even before he knew he was bi-polar. Truly a work of art. and something i can resonate with on a closer level than any other artist.
People who struggle with something in their live go deeper than most people I can hear it in his music ....had my own struggles in live nice to find someone who can express it in beautiful music not everyone has that talent....love and blessings
@@steveswhirld he said it himself many times that he had no idea he had a mental illness until later in life. most of his early music was written during manic episodes or depression
Loved the 90's but don't really miss it. Always trying to look at existence in a positive way and focusing on the future. *Edit. Real 90's shit like this (or any decade) definitely helps.
Clemlee13 You really should be complimented quite highly for your creative work on this video. I must have watched your video for this song a few hundred times by now. You captured the emotion and feeling of the lyrics so very well. @matthewgoodband should be celebrating this masterpiece on your behalf !
One of my faves. I moved away from everyone I knew when this song got into my head. Was dealing with breakup..was 21 and was obsessed with this song. Funny how he now lives in the town I ran away from.
This song takes me outside of time. It has the same effect on me that it did when I first heard it. Everything is temporary. Every moment is reflexive and redundant. Yet there's still hope that we'll have the effect on others that they have on us. That we'll find a way to exact change on some level.
For me personally this song had a profound effect on how I viewed music. To me lyrics were often just bad poetry that happened to work well because of the music that lifted it. This song was a demonstration of how profound poetry can be made exponentially more beautiful and haunting with the right sonic background. It motivated me to want to become a singer.
@robertalanhead I am so glad that he´s absolutely NOT mainstream! Sometimes it´s better that some artists not become that popular - only fans know how good he is and I´m pretty sure he´s got a lot of fans :-)
It bothers me that I cannot pull this up on the RUclips app on Apple TV to properly blast it. A fantastic song given a very fitting video by a fan. Great work Clemlee13
Youuuu will come backkkk within yourself uuuuuu can be all when we melt ,I will know what u were for I still believe in uuuuuuu -2019 till eternity .....
Suburbia Matthew Good You will come back within yourself You can be art when we melt And I will know what you were for I say we're leaving There ain't nothing here at all Another day, a week, the mall And baby if I was in demand You would be mine x2 Someday this place is gonna burn Is whole life in there waiting? Someday your head is gonna turn And you'll realize I'm missing Do you realize? You will come back, convince yourself You can stay alive and wait for me And I will know what this was for And I'll say we're leaving There ain't nothing here at all Another month, a year that's all So you can tell them I'm coming and Hell's coming with me x2 Someday this place is gonna burn Is whole life in there waiting? Someday their heads are gonna turn And they'll realize you're missing
If any song resembles how I feel about Victoria BC, this does right to a T, At times I wonder if anyone will know or care when I'm not there anymore? Anyone who has or who is currently living there can agree, this place makes me feel like a ghost almost. "Someday their heads are gonna turn when they realize that you're missing". This has always one of my favorite songs of his.
***** Really that's awesome I used to camp out there and go to the mini golf course as well. I going to be moving from here fairly soon, possibly Nanaimo. Greetings from Victoria.
***** Ive been to the island several times and have always thought about living there. Matthew good always makes me think about that part of the world. If that makes you feel more significant.
So you can tell them I'm coming and Hell's coming with me Someday this place is gonna burn Is whole life in there waiting? Someday their heads are gonna turn and they'll realize you're missing
I'm not a trickster... I'm too socially awkward to pull off that motif. I'd rather just listen to this song alone (annually a few dozen times a year) to think about my life in hopes that this current perspective will help me figure out what I should do.
@TheNosyarg13 the lyrics booklet says "another day, a week, the mall" . when it doesnt make clear sense off the bat.. i always tend to think it sounds better! :)
@IslandRoninMedic people have indeed shat on his music videos on youtube, but we just ignore them, or it tells them to piss off in the description of the video.
... Actually on second glance my reasoning for purposely saying a bad joke did nothing but tarnish my story about an honest moment I had years ago, I'll be removing that now.
not fair...no one believes me ...this son was written by a gilr named Amrit from vancouver abou ther boyfried dave parker. She was friends with Matthew so there. I have to deal with Dave parker now , and this creeps me out.

Agree. Do you know why beautiful midnight isn´t on spotify?
His best tracks were his ballads. And this one was his masterpiece!! After all these years, I still get frisson when I listen to this!
Sort of a proliferation of a future yet to come.. and into forevermore🙏
Play this at my funeral....
Truly, beautifully haunting. This song is a legitimate masterpiece, buried deep in the depths of the most talented Canadian rock songs. Matt and the band orchestrated this tune to perfection. It truly speaks deeply to one's ears, soul, and heart, and mine especially.
OhhFrikshunz indeed bro, indeed.
One of his best.
If you don't get goosebumps from this tune....you have no soul
#1980s toronto suburban kids congregated at the corner by the Eaton Centre
Agree entirely

The only song that can make me think my deepest, proud to be Canadian!

Just read my comment from 4 years ago and 2 years ago wow this song keeps pulling me back in time … 2022
No it doesn't
Matt good is soooo underrated

So glad this fan video still exists. Matt must like it?

Well said.
People who struggle with something in their live go deeper than most people
I can hear it in his music ....had my own struggles in live
nice to find someone who can express it in beautiful music
not everyone has that talent....love and blessings
lol so you dont think he knew he was bipolar until somebody told him ..lmarooooooooooo
@@steveswhirld he said it himself many times that he had no idea he had a mental illness until later in life. most of his early music was written during manic episodes or depression
so what your saying is i should go see a ''''shrink'' because i might be bipolar and not even have the slightest idea that i have it ...
This song breaks my heart and gives me hope all at the same time..
Matthew Good is my hero. His voice never fails to give me goosebumps-live even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2020 Matthew good …. its classical music to me...…. 21 years ago beautiful Midnight ,,,,IM Paul NYC USA America never got it!!!!!!
I remember dropping ecstasy at wonderland when this song came on, a moment and feeling I will never forget.
This song has a way of showing you how it feels to have the one you love and also how it feels to not have the one you loved....All at the same time.
this song breaks your heart over and over
Love this song .. good taste .....
this song chews up my soul and spits it out... so depressingly wonderful/ wonderfully depressing
my #1 favorite from Matthew Good Band. This song is dark and beautiful, never gets old.
He is a true poet. When there's too much bullshit on tv/news/earth I just get on here and give him a listen and remember it's not all lost.
i miss the 90s :(
+chompsky10 I miss new wave.
You probably have a brain cloud
ha-HAAAAA!!!!
me too
Loved the 90's but don't really miss it. Always trying to look at existence in a positive way and focusing on the future.

Oh 1999... Where have you gone.

i can't believe this song is 20 years old
I love this song! Matthew Good Band was so awesome!!! Would love to hear more music like this! It´s so much better then the crap of today ;-)
Amazing video! This fits the song so well, and I love how smoothly the clips and pictures of MG(B) flow together.
i remember this from when my dad used to play it in the car :'(
Real person, real artistic talent. Real music.
The song flows perfectly with the video, and the song is absolutely beautiful.
@robertalanhead I am so glad that he´s absolutely NOT mainstream! Sometimes it´s better that some artists not become that popular - only fans know how good he is and I´m pretty sure he´s got a lot of fans :-)
makes me think of "the highway of tears"

Suburbia
Matthew Good
You will come back within yourself
You can be art when we melt
And I will know what you were for
I say we're leaving
There ain't nothing here at all
Another day, a week, the mall
And baby if I was in demand
You would be mine x2
Someday this place is gonna burn
Is whole life in there waiting?
Someday your head is gonna turn
And you'll realize I'm missing
Do you realize?
You will come back, convince yourself
You can stay alive and wait for me
And I will know what this was for
And I'll say we're leaving
There ain't nothing here at all
Another month, a year that's all
So you can tell them I'm coming and
Hell's coming with me x2
Someday this place is gonna burn
Is whole life in there waiting?
Someday their heads are gonna turn
And they'll realize you're missing
Very well done production here...I think you absolutely captured the essence of the song visually! NICE!!!!!

I feel the same way.
The Bow Tie Gamer Really have visited or currently living there? I have been here for over 20 years now.
Visited often, I am a New Brusnwick guy though.
Great song!!!
Oh God, the depressing song is beautiful. I hate how he does that.
He is a lyrical genius there is no doubt there, Pretty good on the music side too.
Exactly..love his music
this is it awsome
nice video cleemee13
i think this song was 11pm on the disk. that was cool.
Amazing song and amazing artist matthew good is brilliant
Thanks for uploading
nicely done. even with the watermarks.
This track is so huge. Melt my mind friend.
So you can tell them I'm coming and Hell's coming with me
Someday this place is gonna burn
Is whole life in there waiting?
Someday their heads are gonna turn
and they'll realize you're missing
Yes, indeed you may.
🤟🏽
I go through life hard as a rock with almost no feeling... then this happens... I don't know what this feeling is but I think I can fly.
Have you ever heard anything more beautiful?
by far the best make out song
amazing artist
Probably one of the greatest lyricists of the past 25 years.
No one will realize when I’m missing someday
same :(

Let's party like it's 1999.
this song & me have a history i always play this when my girl friend comes over . i play this song & we always kiss for hours .
@TheNosyarg13 the lyrics booklet says "another day, a week, the mall" . when it doesnt make clear sense off the bat.. i always tend to think it sounds better! :)
@IslandRoninMedic people have indeed shat on his music videos on youtube, but we just ignore them, or it tells them to piss off in the description of the video.
beautiful midnight
I love this song, actually the whole album
Terry Dee that sucks. he starting another tour in 2017, and guess what, it's a beautiful midnight revisit. you should check the locations.
He is in Fort Saskatchewan tonight for an acoustic set!
its about Coquitlam B.C
Wicked song
Great comment.
best song to makeout to,hold your gril to
🌺
i love to play this song on my pick nick date at night all i need is the moonlight & my grilfriend & love to guid us & my weapon is my heart
This song is amazing, however does not help my manic depression. Especially today, Christmas Eve
Is he actually saying "Another day, a week, the mall", or is it "another day, a week, them all" ? Because I feel like the latter makes way more sense.
It is emphatically "THE MALL" !
Lyrics are a form of poetry.
Wow...can I quote you on that?
... Actually on second glance my reasoning for purposely saying a bad joke did nothing but tarnish my story about an honest moment I had years ago, I'll be removing that now.
hey
This song still gives me chills. Great job on the video, even with the watermarks.
@TheCroatiaKid Yeah, definitely! ;-)
not fair...no one believes me ...this son was written by a gilr named Amrit from vancouver abou ther boyfried dave parker. She was friends with Matthew so there. I have to deal with Dave parker now , and this creeps me out.
Matt isn't a poet...he's a singer/song writer
Or as I seem to remember "Co-motherfucking-quitlam". Pretty sure I remember seeing him wearing a shirt with that on it once...
I think about 300 views on this count are from me alone
Dave Parker
radical, hey?
Done.
