To tex lax my hair I always use the mildest relaxer for the shortest time possible. I stretch my touchups from 4 to 6 months to make sure there is enough new growth to avoid over processing.(15 minutes). This method seems to help keep my hair healthier and promotes more growth. I am happy that I can wear curls or go straight when I want. This seems to allow me to have the best of both worlds. Thanks for the video, your hair is beautiful!
+Cyn280 I actually have very little shedding. I do a 15 minute deep conditioning using my heating cap after every other shampoo. I use a spray in L'Oreal salon protein conditioner (on Amazon 3vials $10.00) I also use the Mizani thermasmooth system which smooths out the hair, so after blow-drying, I use Mizani Iron Curl before using my curling iron. All of these products seem to hold the moisture very well. I usually don't see any dryness until day five and then I add some oil or moisturizer. I also clip my ends every 6 to 8 weeks. My leave in is Mizani 25 milk . I have followed this routine since August and my previous breakage seems to have stopped. My hair has gotten thicker and longer and I have only done 2 touchups this year, once every 6 months! The top and sides are 3s and somewhat thinner than the back which is 3cto 4a texture. I mostly just do the back, which I time at 15 minutes total. Hope this helps.
+Destiny Williams Check out Deva Chick's site about stretching relaxers as well as other sites which also have good advice on stretching relaxers. I have used their advice and when I stretch my relaxer, I use products to add more protein and softening of the new growth. Because I tex-lax, there isn't a huge difference between old and new growth but my hair is much drier so I moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I detangle in the shower with a good conditioner and I use Miss Jessie's leave in conditioner and I put my hair up into a pony tail until it is almost dry. I use the LOC method, then put up in Bantu knots to sleep on or perm rods under a dryer. This is so much work compared to having it relaxed, but ultimately, the hair is healthier and longer.
I have been texlaxing for 2 years and it works well for me.I deep condition with protein conditioner A few days before to strengthen my hair.I am almost 4 months post. I have lots of new growth.I may stretch to 5 mths.
Theresa Beard Which relaxer and protein conditioner do you use? I'm thinking about texlaxing for the first time. I've been stretching my relaxers for a few years now to 4 or 7 months it depends if I do braids or not. Right now I've been doing an Aloe Vera treatment to strengthen my hair as I've had some issues in the crown area. So far so good. I'm currently 4 mos post and was thinking of doing this treatment till May and then texlax.
Beautiful as usual!! Sometimes I get tired of doin my own hair but beauticians look at u so crazy when u want to texlax ur hair... They DO NOT believe in under processing and will try u!!! They be like soooooo are u natural?!!!! WHAT no!......So I guess I will continue to keep on keepn on until FOREVER😁😁..... Thank u for all of this great info ma'am!! God bless chica❤️
I will definitely put Olive oil & Coconut oil in my hair while Texlaxing my hair & Add it to my relaxer ! I've been thinking about doing this for the LONGEST....Thanks so much for your Texlaxing tips. Your hair looks very healthy
I'm in the same boat. I don't do my own relaxers. I started texlaxing by mistake, my hairdresser was in a rush and didn't leave it on long enough. I actually am thankful. My hair is getting it's texture and pattern back and my hair is much thicker and growing a lot!!
Nice hair Witty. I used Fiberguard Affirm, works for texlaxing. I stretch as well, just don't like the shedding. Conditioner and grapeseed oil helps a lot with the tangles on wash day.
Great video as always! Please be careful if you are planning on only using some of the activator on your next relaxer. About 3 years ago my cousin did the samething. She mixed about half of the activator to the entire jar of relaxer and no lie her hair hit the floor, she had to cut her hair to about 5 inches from all the damage (her hair was about bsl) we think the relaxer didn't get to the correct PH level since not all of the activator was used. Maybe mixing in the oils is a safer to way to go. Good luck and keep making great videos!!
Wow! Are you serious? I'm about to research this. A relaxer's ph is higher than normal... Which makes the entire process abnormal. And you say she had to cut it to about 5 inches? I'm thinking she couldn't have just applied it to her newgrowth only. Because then she would have had to go bald/a low cut. Thanks for sharing!
Good information! I have been texlaxing for about a year now and I have been cutting my time in half. That seems to work best for my hair. I now may try using less of the relaxer activator.
Thanks for the tips! I have also been under processing when i relax. I think I will start adding oil to the relaxer, that seems to be the only way to get consistent results. I have been uncomfortable about which oil to use. Your hair looks gorgeous as always, definitely can see the increased thickness.
Using a lye-based relaxer avoids the whole activator thing and takes some of the guess-work out. I know it's hard for most to believe, but my hair is so much less damaged since I started using Mizani Butter Blends lye-based Mild relaxer, and I texlax with it. No-lye relaxers left my hair dry for years. All relaxers are based on harsh chemicals, both lye and no-lye. I have not one time over-processed or damaged my hair with the Mizani Butter Blends Mild.
Put the relaxer in the back half of your hair first let it sit for the 12 minutes then rinse it out then proceeded to do the front half let it sit for 12 minutes then shampoo your hair all together
I am texlax. I use a texture softner. I use the one by Just For Me. Its really good and it comes with an oil in the box. Try that one the next time you texlax! I think you will like it! Great informative video!!
As always love your informational videos. I've been texlaxing for about a year and it is a journey. LOL. I usually start in the front which is probably why my back is like another texture. Thanks for that tip. I'll try what you did.
i decided to relax my hair after being natural 7 yrs and noticing i was fighting my hair more than anything. but i ended up tex laxed and i love it. its like the best of both worlds and as i stretch it my new growth blends better.
Hey! So I haven't relaxed my hair since April. Do you think texlaxing now would be best? I've also converted to the kids ORS Relaxer. So if I do texlax should I still reduce the usage of activator? I wouldn't think so since it's not as strong as the adult relaxer?
Hey Witty!!! I'm so ready to start my texlax journey!! I have bone straight hair. Please recommend some tips for a 1st time texlax from bone straight. Thank you!! Keep up the awesome work, so proud of you!!! :-)
Hey going to try the olive oil next time. I always relaxed my hair about the same time you do. I did mine the third week in May. When was you the last time you relaxed before this one. Just curious.
You are always so informative girl! Im interested in Texlaxing my hair bc of my permanent color. (I'm fully relaxed now) I have 2 questions... 1. Do you think it's a good idea to start a hair journey.... then wait some time to begin Texlaxing (similar 2 ur situation) 2. When ppl go natural, b4 their "big chop" the relaxed hair breaks off, do you think you're fully relaxed hair will do the same? Break off from the texlaxed hair? Ps. Thx a bunch 4 ur support of my youtube channel, i ♡ ur comments!
1. I started my hair journey in the month of January and didn't get my first "hair journey relaxer" til the month of July. It's all about your regimen and routine. 2. I haven't experienced any breaking at my line of demarcation. The relaxed hair is just significantly thinner looking than my texlaxed hair. I worry more about it breaking where my texlaxed hair meets my newgrowth.
Great video.... Your videos are soo helpful for me .. I also just started texlaxing, and I really liked the results... How often do you texlax?? Do you stretch the same time as you did a relaxer?? Thanks
I'm going to texlax my hair for the very first time! Can you give some quick advice? + I try to manage the chemicals to keep a bit of my natural texture!
Your hair looks gorg as usual. I've been texlaxing and started putting oil in the relaxer and some on my hair and leaving it on for 20 minutes. I feel like that should be long enough, but my hair still seems very textured. Do you leave yours on for only 12 minutes total (3 min per section) or do you add some smoothing time? Also do you coat the rest of your hair with conditioner or anything first?
Your "relaxed" hair at your ends have a wave to it and aren't bone straight, which I hate about my ends! ugh. I had my hair dresser under process my hair last relaxer (12mins) and it is too much texture for me. Do you think box relaxers are weaker than professional ones? Also do you remember how long you processed your hair when you were not texlaxing?
In my opinion, your relaxed hair was already a version of texlaxing... it isn't really relaxed. If it was really relaxed it would have been bone-straight, but it had texture in it. It was like maybe 65% straight and your newer texlaxed hair is like 35% straight.
When stretching your relaxers do you noticed any tangling? and if so how do you detangle your hair or can you make a video of how you detangle your hair? I have been texlaxing my hair for a year now and every time I stretch past 3 months my hair starts to tangle and I have a lot of one knot strands.
Hey Whit! I just did a virgin relaxer on my hair with iORS No lye. And I literally have different textures all over my head. Once I flat ironed it came out good. The front is straighter than the back Tho .My main question is how do you keep your hair moisturized using a no lye relaxer?my hair seems really dry. Thanks in advance
Thanks for the texlax update Whitney, it was very informative. I have a question...does hair type have an affect on how long you should leave the relaxer in? Because I also texlax and idk if its the type of relaxer I use or my new growth texture but I have to process my relaxer for 30 minutes from start to finish to get the texlaxed texture I like. My hair does come out with texture and not bone straight at all. Also I have low porosity hair idk if that has anything to do with it
Yes the texture of your hair has everything to do with the processing time (as u can see in the perm instructions). Kinkier hair can stand a longer process time. Peace & love.
To tex lax my hair I always use the mildest relaxer for the shortest time possible. I stretch my touchups from 4 to 6 months to make sure there is enough new growth to avoid over processing.(15 minutes). This method seems to help keep my hair healthier and promotes more growth. +Cheryl Davis What relaxer do you use?
+Cyn280 I use Mizani mild Butter Blend HG.
Thanks. Do you notice any shedding? What do you use to prevent it?
+Cyn280 I actually have very little shedding. I do a 15 minute deep conditioning using my heating cap after every other shampoo. Lol! I can imagine the confused look on their face. "Under process??" 😕 they better get hipped!

how long did she leave the relaxer on
that's really scary to hear because that's what I was planing to do
+prettywitty77 yeah exactly I think her cousin did the whole length of her hair
I use just for me texture softener, I also add conditioner to it to slow the process
Good information! I have been texlaxing for about a year now and I have been cutting my time in half. That seems to work best for my hair. I now may try using less of the relaxer activator.
Thank you!
Hey Witty ever thought about trying the half and half method it works no doubt. You get even processing results.
Your HAIR! 😍😌
Your hair is really looking healthy.
Thank you!
Thanks for the tips! I have also been under processing when i relax. I think I will start adding oil to the relaxer, that seems to be the only way to get consistent results. Shiva G No, that relaxer is terrible. Your hair will fall out. Stop trolling on people's pages.
Put the relaxer in the back half of your hair first let it sit for the 12 minutes then rinse it out then proceeded to do the front half let it sit for 12 minutes then shampoo your hair all together
That's the half & half method. I'm not about that life.
I'm curious about this method. How do you keep the other half dry while you're rinsing the opposite half?
It's a lot of work but I cover the front half with a plastic cap and plastic bag.
I am texlax. I use a texture softner. I use the one by Just For Me. Its really good and it comes with an oil in the box. Try that one the next time you texlax! I think you will like it! Great informative video!!
Thanks!
Love it!! Will definitely be on the look out for your next videos, yay!!!!😁😁😁😁
Thanks Tomecka!
Just did my first texlax after a five month stretch but good tips in here that I will certainly try for next go round thanks for sharing girl
You're welcome!
As always love your informational videos. I've been texlaxing for about a year and it is a journey. LOL. I usually start in the front which is probably why my back is like another texture. Thanks for that tip. I'll try what you did.

As long as you're happy! Do you boo. :)
I did the samething! After 7 years I went texlaxed to relaxed and now thinking of going back texlaxed lol😎
k do u use relaxer or the box that says texturizer ?
You are so informative & your hair is BOMB! I love it. Can't wait to start my lil journey :)
+Ashley Williams Thanks Ashley!
Hey! So I haven't relaxed my hair since April. Do you think texlaxing now would be best? I've also converted to the kids ORS Relaxer. So if I do texlax should I still reduce the usage of activator? I wouldn't think so since it's not as strong as the adult relaxer?

Sigh. It's so gorgeous!
Lol thanks.
Your hair is beautiful!
Thank you!
prettywitty77 Your welcome ☺️
hey chick thanks for the tips! can u do an updated saran wrap tutorial..please and thanks!! :)
I have two Saran Wrap tutorials. I still do it that exact same way.
prettywitty77 found it! thank uuuu :)
Hey going to try the olive oil next time. I always relaxed my hair about the same time you do. I did mine the third week in May. When was you the last time you relaxed before this one. Just curious.
Hi from Dakar Senegal is good to tex lax for thin hairs like mine. Thank you for the video
You are always so informative girl! Im interested in Texlaxing my hair bc of my permanent color. (I'm fully relaxed now)
I have 2 questions...
1. Do you think it's a good idea to start a hair journey.... then wait some time to begin Texlaxing (similar 2 ur situation)

I completely understand! Thanks for responding so fast to my questions!!!
No prob, Hun!
Great video.... Your videos are soo helpful for me .. I also just started texlaxing, and I really liked the results... How often do you texlax?? Do you stretch the same time as you did a relaxer?? Thanks
I keep my hair natural but blownout. Her Hair look so fluffy ❤❤ i wanna stroke it slowly 😲
12 minutes with maybe 1 min of smoothing. My already processed hair is always coated with olive oil.
Your "relaxed" hair at your ends have a wave to it and aren't bone straight, which I hate about my ends! ugh. If you say so...
If your hair is bone straight its over processed
shout out from Jackson, MS and is the Jamancan black castor oil line from Shea Moisture any good?
My hair isn't crazy about that line. #TeamSipp
U can use bigger sections as well
MyQuale Yeldell I was thinking the same thing.
When stretching your relaxers do you noticed any tangling? and if so how do you detangle your hair or can you make a video of how you detangle your hair?
I have been texlaxing my hair for a year now and every time I stretch past 3 months my hair starts to tangle and I have a lot of one knot strands.

Weekly deep conditions, moisturize and seal daily.
Chelating shampoo
@prettywitty77 how often do you relax or suggest someone to relax

boxochocolates Thank you that explains why I can leave it in for longer and still keep some texture
YES! Everyone's processing time should NOT be the same because all of our hair is not the same. Hair type plays a MAJOR role.
aanays hair porosity play a major role than hair type.....low porosity has greater resistance whilst high porosity absorbs products more easily
Does she say anywhere what perm she uses? i watched the whole video and don't recall her saying
Have you ever thought of doing the front sections first since it takes longer to process?
My front doesn't take longer to process. The middle does.
prettywitty77 Oooh ok. I misunderstood. Either way, your hair is gorgeous! =)
what's the name of your relaxer?
Texlaxed I mean. Thanks
add conditioner to the relaxer
Great tip!
How long do you stretch texlaxing?
As long as possible without causing damage or breakage to your hair
hey prettywitty77 are you ever gonna join Periscope?
N Mav I've joined! just haven't used it yet. add me!
prettywitty77 its done! I sense fun in my future😊 im @ kangopie c ya!
