If the draft age is 25 why not start a reserve army at 18 where at least there is some basic training for a few weeks a year. I know nothing about such things but at least once conscripted they will have some pre trainig and not be starting from scratch.
I believe zelensky wants to save the youth of his country. As they are the ones who will have to rebuild the nation when this is over. Whether he can maintain that position with such a large frontline to control is another matter.

The Security Council is useless right now and one could argue archaic. However, the General Assembly is still alive and kicking. The solution is -- Boycott the Security Council -- Go through the General Assembly.
Legitimacy is a function of usage. That's the short answer.

The membership of the Security Council is an outdated list based on the victors of WW2. Make the Security Council veto able to be overturned if 75% of the members of the General Assembly vote against it....

There absolutely is more than 31k Ukrainian troops killed unfortunately. The journalist who was interviewed later said that many troops were listed as 'missing' and sadly this will mean many more will be KIA from this missing number.

UN - It's going on a century since the end of WW2 - past time to reevaluate composition of Security Council. Japan and Germany should be permanent members. It was nationalist chinese (now Taiwan) who did the vast majority of fighting on the side of the allies and they aren't even members. A large percentage of the French viewed the Germans as saviors from French Bolsheviks and they are on the security council. The USSR started the war with their German allies. Add Japan, Germany, and maybe Italy to the Security Council. Use UN standards as SC entrance requirements so aggressive dictatorships like Iran don't have an argument for SC membersip

I'm kind of surprised Telegraph has let Zelensky's 31,000 toll go through to their listeners without subjecting it to the test of commonsense. IMO it's off by multiples... got to be 3 times, even 4 times higher than that.
Ukraine just has better equipment and tactics, really. Russia is using early cold war and WW2 tanks, while ukraine is using a mix of late cold war US and europe tech, alongside freshly made equipment from arms manufacturers like lockheed martin. It's of course a bit higher, but probably no higher than 50k.

Trump lost my vote when he started bashing NATO and actively encouraging parts of it to be attacked. To stoke the fires of global war and simultaneously piss all over the sacrifices this country made during WW2, in less than a minute, is almost impressive. At least it would be if it wasn’t so horrifying. I will reluctantly vote democrat this year as well.
One lesser mentioned reason that the West and NATO nations should be very interested in making sure Ukraine win this war is because in the last 2 years Ukraine has become probably the worlds best military in its practical, technological and inventively creative ability to adapt to both modern warfare of drone development and strategy as well as fight an old style war together with the unbelievable spirit to not only take on (supposedly..) the 2nd best military in the world but in many aspects better their opponents. There is no other western military with this actual fighting experience on such a scale with such experience, they will be a formidable asset to NATO.
So the best NATO has is retreating and lines a break. Doesn't bode well

I was reading that when the Soviet Union dissolved,Yeltsin wrote to the UN stating that Russia would assume the USSR’ss place on the Security Council. But Russia was only one of the three Soviet states which mutually agreed to one another’s sovereignty and territory. Since Russia has so grievously breached that agreement, can its role on the Security Council be revoked? Is that worth looking into?
in 1940, the USSR withdrew from the League of Nations and the organization soon ceased to exist

Even conservative western estimates say closer to 200000 russian losses, and based off other estimates and video evidence I would be surprised if it was lower than 300k. On the other hand 31000 loses on the Ukrainian’s side is also likely pure propaganda although not to near the extent as on the Russian side. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 100k-150k Ukrainian military casualties which is unfortunate. It’s sad that we as the west are slowly turning our backs on a country in need of help

UALosses has Ukrainian killed listed by name at 42,100. Missing are estimated at 15,000, most probably POW. This is the lowest estimate by any independent and serious analysis.

The Ukrainian numbers claimed by Zelensky are unbelievable. 31,000 versus 180,000 on the Russian side? Although time and again we are told that Russia has a five to one artillery advantage if not more.

"Yet another myth has been colorfully dispelled, the miracle did not happen," Rostec said, commenting on the first confirmed destruction of an Abrams tank during the special military operation.
Previously, Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo announced that troops of Russia’s 15th Motorized Infantry Brigade destroyed an Abrams tank in the Avdeyevka area. According to Saldo, the tank’s reactive armor failed to protect it: a reconnaissance drone detected the tank’s first combat mission, and the tank was subsequently destroyed.
In late September, 2023, The New York Times reported, citing two Pentagon representatives, that the first US-made Abrams tanks arrived in Ukraine. In mid-October, US military officials announced that the US shipped the entire batch of 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. However, these vehicles have not been spotted on the frontline since then. In early January this year, Forbes noted that Ukraine is unable to use the US-made M1 Abrams tanks on the frontline due to their vulnerability.
