Great read aloud idea is the first book in the Spiderwick Chronicles! Only takes 7 days to read and gets the kids hooked on a series. The kids love it!
I read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe to my 2nd grade class late in the school year last year and it was a hit! “Early” 3rd grade kiddos may love that!
7:56 That is a really good point. I don't mind the state testing because it gives valuable data and we can track growth over time, but then all the extra tests that we do in addition is a little excessive I think.
Hillsborough County here. I’m doing Primary…. It’s been an adventure doing STAR, and IREADY is now being given the way it was originally intended. I’m Departmentalized too , and I teach ELA. I LOVE IT! You can really dedicate your time on those lessons and perfect them instead of stretching yourself teaching several content areas
Elias and Agnes Våhlund has written a graphic novel that is called a handbook for superheroes. It is an amazing story about friendship and makes plenty of dilemas to talk about in class. :D

When I taught 4th grade some books I loved for read alouds: Because of Winn Dixie, Shiloh, Wonder, Bud Not Buddy, and The One and Only Ivan. Now that I’m teaching 1st those are all mostly too “heavy” for the kids but I still love doing read alouds. My favorite series to read to my Firsties is Zoey and Sassafras. ❤📖
I’m doing 3rd grade angels right now and the kids are so obsessed with it that they chose ‘3rd Grade Angels’ as their team name at our big annual fundraising event. So cute. No clue what we’ll read next as this is my first year doing a running readaloud at the end of the day.
My class did that last year too!!!! We were the Allain Angels for our fun run! I made them all pipe cleaner halos on cheap headbands to wear while they ran and I wore one with a white feather boa hahaha
I am behind on your videos, but we read The World According to Humphrey and the kids love it. Some kids that are intimidated by chapter books enjoy reading other books in the Humphrey series. They really love it!
I’m feeling like how you felt last year I feel like I don’t have enough time to really get down into making it fun fun because I’m teaching all subjects as a 3rd grade teacher. Our PM1 has been pushed back as well because of the same issues.
Glad to know we are in the same boat... Changing curriculums can make you feel that way time wise too... Takes time to get your groove to have wiggle room to add that fun spice unfortunately.. wishing you a wonderful PM 1 when it happens!! ♥
Would you/David do a video on making the cold brew?? I buy stok/califia cold brew but even that gets expensive! Would love to make my own at home but I’m intimidated 😂
We buy the grounds from a local shop that a ground for cold brew... Then he soaks the grounds for a few days in water and strains it to make the concentrate 😊 He googled the ratios

You shouldn't use the word in the definition. When I teach vocabulary, I give the definition and use it in context or get them to use a dictionary and put it in context.
It's so bizarre to me that you don't know what you are doing next. We have to have basic plan for the whole term that can be tweaked depending on if they need more time to learn something or we can just do a quick review. We literally know that in week 5 on the Monday we will do xyz. So it is crazy to me that you haven't planned out everything based on their needs. You must do a LOT of planning regularly. I would hate that.
We have a pacing guide with an outline of all the skills/texts we teach and in what order and the number of instructional days it will take to cover it. Is it down for a BRIEF period of time each week to look at what we have accomplished and select what days I will teach what the next week.
