If a small hatchback that can accelerate like a supercar isn't a hot hatch, I don't know what is.
I think you said it , a supercar
I have the XPower in green. It is genius.
Congrats! Nice choice
Derek, UK trims are SE (standard and long range), Trophy (long range), XPower and Extended Range. They go from £25k to £37k here, but you can get quite big discounts, even on the XPower if you shop around. Personally, I’d be shallow and go for the XPower as love than Matt green finish!
Thanks Super Ted, SE was what I was missing! Not shallow at all, a great car and colour!
Just ordered one of these. For this money and getting an AWD. Perfect in Nordic weather. It's the cheapest AWD electric car new.
Great review Derek and spot on with your comments. I've owned one for quite a while now and still loving the instant power on tap. The steering vibration is reported to be worse at very close to the 70mph range here in the UK at a steady cruise (not 60mph). It's no ordinary EV IMHO. ,... it's for the older petrolheads types that loved their AWD hot hatchbacks like Golf R's, Audi RS3's, Focus RS etc..
Thanks for the comment and agree with your thoughts too
I can see a lot of people ending up in the ditch in this car...
Also true
review 0 points we only look at you and not how the car behaves. instead of the camera recording the road, it records you
Very valid points, I need to set up some external cameras and ones filming the car too. I will know for the next time
There’s one on autotrader - £24k, low mileage.
for us aussies rev heads, it's nearly 320 kW
Nice
What a bargain !!!
I think so too
Picked ours up in Nov 23 and we're very happy with it to date. My wife finds the XPower easier to drive than the KIA EV6 as it is smaller, has a better turning circle, and being a smaller woman finds it very comfortable. She has appropriated the the car for herself. The car back seat now has a baby seat for the granddaughter, and a pet seat for our small dog. And I traded my AUDI TT MK3 in for it 😢.
To be able to change a few things in the menus would be good, and also: Tyre PSI instead of KPA etc, Wireless Android & Apple, plus a HUD, seat position memory, aircon seats, and default to last saved settings.
Some nice additions there if they could do it alright. Thanks for the comment
Great review Derek I like the MG4 and would pick the X Power out of them all having the extra power makes it a little more fun to drive. Maybe next time MG will allow you to do a few laps of Mondello Park.😁
Next time is right
Love my MG4 but the not being able to save a profile or have the lane assist off as default can be annoying as the lane assist is not built or Irish roads. Love the colour, and that price isn't bad at all. It will make my decision in 2/3 years btw another MG or the Seal more interesting
Lots of choice out there!
Great review again from you guys but this car seems a bit pointless for a family hatchback I would much prefer more efficient car with a greater range, we all know Electric cars have a better power to weight acceleration than ice cars. Keep up the great work👍👍🍀
Thanks Gerry. I would be in the same boat re great range but like the Tesla Performance models, there is a market for them it seems
i kinda think the point to this car is you cant really have one without the other longer range bigger battery not as fast .. I think MG went with the idea this thing is quick and kinda that blend between the two for rev heads ..
Ive test driven one twice now and will be getting one soon in a week or 2 VS my aging ( which i do adore ) 2012 s60 t6 r design with the polstar tune its a no brainer .. Im Aussie and live victoria and while not every really icey or super cold like the UK i see the huge ++++ with AWD for the wetter months ..
Behind the dunes in Belmullet, where it all goes down!
Ha ha, if only you knew
"The phone holder isn't great! " 😅
Not for launch control
Some nice houses around Belmullet !
Yes they are!
Insurance for EVs gone crazy in UK. Loads of power for €43K. Anyone know what the XPower would cost to insure in Ireland? GTI money, 2 X GTI money ... or worse?
Insurance on an EV is much the same as an ICE here.
Thanks for the comment and reply Pat
Yes. I will have to have a look. The price makes it a must look.
Not sure the all season tyres I like would suit it.
Boot a little small for my needs but back seats can be lowered. Your 21.1kw/100km shows that if driven sensibly it has an OK range.
THANKS. Will have a good look on 17th Feb.
Des
Thanks Des
In fairness to MG, they're really giving affordable options to people and at this stage they're turning into really serious options. I'm looking forward to test driving one at some stage.
You'll enjoy it
I'd be very conscious of my knee resting on that small centre console all the time.....I'm 6' 3" so guessing it would be in contact with it every second corner......did it interfere with your enjoyment of it?
Not one bit
After buying into the whole EV thing, I was very disappointed to hear firsthand that some of the biggest dealers in Limerick are refusing to take in second-hand EVs as trade-ins. I see sales falling off the cliff in a couple of years. Very worrying situation developing.
I can sell mine for the same price I bought it for 3 years ago. The second hand market has been silly for a few years. EV or otherwise it had to settle at some point
Dealer education is required for sure
