      He apperently drove a hammer through a silver knickers head, it is sad you only hear about criminals often when researching Ancestry, the "ordinary" people usually only have some church records and what items they left behind.
      While court documents tell so much more about a person.

    Lot's of background details I never heard before here. Still I never stop wondering how Harald could be taken by suprise that way at Stamford Bridge. They had ravaged the English coast for quite some time, surly he must have understood Harold had heard about that and could arrive to meet them anytime. How could such an experienced warleader not think of deploying some scouts who would spot an army on it's way in time. Very strange.

    I agree with much of the sentiment here; Harald Hardrada lived one of the most remarkable lives in recorded history.. rivaling that of Alexander of Macedon. However the man whom I most admire is the unnamed berserker that stood his ground on Stamford Bridge. He knew what was going to happen to the Norse army.. He stood against his fear and will live forever because of that choice.

    How do you come to a conclusion that the Viking age finished when the Normans took over England.Although French speaking and Christian it was only 3 or 4 generations before , that they were Vikings ,descendants of Rollo, a Viking from the North,(Northmen,or Normans) who conquered Normandy and then England.Face it English,your royal family is directly descended from Vikings .

    • @historyprofiles
      @historyprofiles  Год назад +3

      Although the Normans were descended from Rollo and his Viking warriors, by 1066 they were all French speaking, Christian and their Viking culture had all but been wiped from them the only Viking that remained in them was their blood. It's classed as the end of the Viking age due to Harald being the last major Viking threat to England

    • @phoenixrose1192
      @phoenixrose1192 Год назад +1

      The Normans had actually intermarried with English people and became English themselves.
      Besides, they were not actually Vikings in 1066, but Normans because they literally did exactly the same thing there as they had in England; Integrate. So the Vikings never conquered England in the end, but they were defeated by the English at Stamford Bridge.
      As for the ancestry of the royal family, it can actually be traced as far back as the house of Wessex. So they’re descended from Anglo-Saxons…

  • @michaelbehrens1660

    They were going woke with monotheism as it was the cultural revolution of the day overturning “traditional values” NOT spreading a new faith. They were overturning not just the faith of Scandinavia, but the whole culture and any leaders who wouldn’t capitulate.

    • @19ate4
      @19ate4 Год назад +1

      I wouldn’t go as far to say a cultural revolution, since Jesus and Odin are very similar
      Unlike Islam where they have holy jihad, christianity adopted lots of pagans ideas. Shit we even in 2023 say Thorsday and Wotanday while not even batting an eye to where the names of the week comes from

    • @aksbeixhev

      I recommend reading Livonian Henry's chronicle, oselians were true pain in ass in Baltic sea back in late 12th early 13th century, they even kicked Danish king's men out of Oselia twice and ended Sweden's attempt to take its share in Estonian crusades by kicking them out of Lihula.
