I just got cast into the chorus for EVITA in my town theatre group, and I'm so thrilled I listened to this song four times in a row to celebrate!
This song is about Evita Peron but it could have been written for Diego Maradona 'all through my wild days, my mad existence' R.I.P

Gavin star I’m pretty sure that parakeet type only lives 5-10 years, and this person’s in particular lived for 6. So they probably took care of their parakeet very well, actually.

This is the best version I have heard. Very beautiful. I first heard this song in 1980 when someone was playing it and I sat up, not knowing anything about the story, and asked what the song was all about. The lyrics shouldn't be hard to google and correct here if there are errors.

AND Thank You, Sintofg, for this great choice, so close to the Julie Covington original (& best), capturing the vulnerable, poignant, plaintiveness. Elaine, Madonna, too big; Sinead, too small; Sarah Brightman, schizo; Joan Baez, pure, but operatic. Sharon Campbell nails it, spot on.

Wow, used to see the commercial for this play back in the 80s, for Evita, that playd a clip of Dont cry for me Argentina, and until today, have been wondering why she made a promise to keel her distance, and never got to see this play, but only just found out, shes not singing that shes keeping a promise to keep distance, she singing shes kept a promise, and asking the one shes singing this to, not to keep their distance. Would love to see the 1980s play if it was ever filmed.
