Elvis was already massive as a singer and sex symbol when his father married Dee Stanley in 1960. Still grieving for his mother (as he did for the rest of his life) he could be forgiven for thinking that his new stepmother was a gold-digger. Had he been alive, he would no doubt have disliked his "stepmom" even more after she claimed, in a book about "the dark side of Elvis" after his death that he had shared a bed with his birth mother. It was a shocking claim, clearly aimed at selling a book and cashing in on the Presley name. In the same book, she also accused Elvis of being "immoral and out of control."
She was one of the first to reveal Elvis's abuse of prescription drugs, sleeping pills and the like, and she claimed - again, after his death - that he had been responsible for turning her own three sons, his stepbrothers, on to drugs. Whether the latter claim is true, who knows?

He seems still alive for us because we see him everywhere, listen to him constantly, and we are comforted by his presence. I love his movies and watch him in concert all the time. I learn new things about him all the time. That does make him seem alive.

At first, Dee had set her sights on beloved Elvis but seeing that she had no chance, she fell back on Vernon, she wanted to be part of the Presleys at all costs. Elvis did not like him at all, and ignored him; When Elvis saw that in the Graceland Mansion, she was starting to CHANGE the decoration of sweet Gladys, he couldn't stand it and bought them a house a little further away; In an interview, Marty Lacker says that Elvis took care of David, Rick and Billy, but never considered them his brothers! Elvis caught them multiple times street Ricky and David Stanley have said in interviews about Elvis kicking them out if he caught them or heard of anyone's havibg street drugs in his house or property. Yes.... I remember reading in their book (Elvis We Love You Tender) she felt a "connection" with Elvis years before meeting him in Europe. She went to one of his concerts in the 50s where she said Elvis and she locked eyes for a few seconds. That was when she felt a connection. 🙄 Sheesh.

There’s something about this lady that sounds bitter and pessimistic. Can’t put my finger on it, but ungrateful maybe, or not appreciative of a unique opportunity in one’s life. Vernon could have done better I feel, only based on her conversations. Don’t know, she seems odd and unsophisticated.

I've always heard such negative things about Dee, I sort of had this preconceived opinion. Having said this, based on these conversations, she sounded like a perfectly sane, reasonable, and lovely lady.

Vernon had already moved on with his nurse Sandy. He moved her and her children into Graceland. He eventually bought her a house a couple of streets near Graceland. According to books Vernon and the Memphis Mafia had multiple woman on tours in different cities. They assigned one member of the group to keep girls phone numbers in each city for hookups. Almost all of them got a divorce. Except red west, Sonny West, Billy Smith. But I'm sure they messed around.
Vernon divorced Dee before Elvis died. He was living with his nurse Sandi Miller by then.

Priscilla did not live with Elvis at 14. She lived with her parents in Germany. She moved to Memphis/Graceland in 1963 when she was 2 months away from her 18th birthday. In those times women married young, especially in the South.

Great interview 🥰 she seems like she was a pleasant person to talk to . I think a lot of people keep certain truths in , and when they snap they tell part of the story when doubted or attacked because they don’t want to tell all out of respect . Everyone slammed her book, but it was really not that bad . I think the press tour for her second book that never came out really damaged her reputation . I have no idea why she said what she said on those talk show interviews, but it 100% was not in the 1 published book . What some people don’t understand is Elvis wasn’t always touring or in the public . There were years in between the army and the concerts where he was just doing movies and records and a mystery to the public because he was private . Everything we have come to know about him over the years was not public knowledge . I can understand the shock for fans when some things were written etc . A lot of ppl just knew him as an actor and performer with no understanding about his personal life .

It was a fascinating interview with I guess two music journalists and they were in a back room like a dressing room. Elvis was talking more about music and the changes within it. In the end, they were talking about how they all had to get out of that room because of how hot it was.

Yeah, right, as I'm sure Elvis said that Dee was someone he could trust. Nonsensical... As he really couldn't stand the woman. Also, the guys did try to help, but I'm afraid it wasn't until it was too late. As it's true they did many of the same things he did which made Lisa Marie so angry with Sonny, Red and Dave Hebler writing the book. Also, Elvis did not die from polypharmacy as that would have been a slow, peaceful death. He appears to have had a seizure and/or through straining caused a cardiac event. And it makes me so sad, as he must have been so afraid in those last minutes as his death was extremely violent. Drug overdoses are in no way like that.

Not all, but quite a few of the drugs were for high blood pressure, arthritis, twisted colon, insomnia, glaucoma, plus a few I can’t recall. I’m no expert. This is just what I read. One doctor was quoted saying he didn’t understand how he coped with all the pain he must have had to endure.
@@carolynstuart5901 yes but what caused so many of these ailments. Who knows what drug abuse over a long period of time can manifest over many years. As Lamar once stated, Elvis started developing strange ailments. We'll never really know and it's what causes all the conjecture of course. It was a surprise to me to recently read Anita Wood's book. On one of their first dates she talks about driving with him somewhere in his car and him having to go to the pharmacists. Elvis had a safe in the boot of his car he would store medication in and even at that stage, had a book describing all the different pills. I had this view that came a lot later.
She collaborates what one of the Elvis nurses said. Every time Elvis got clean, he went home to all the drugs, because no one removed the drugs from Graceland. Good interview but I don't believe Elvis said he can only trust her anc her sons. I believe Vernon and his cousins. Ann Margaret said Elvis loved his family.

I met Dee Stanley in 1988 in Nashville...She was selling these 36" long "Elvis (w/his jumpsuited likeness) outdoor thermometers" (of which i still own) at a "Cars of the
Stars" automobile museum which had 2 white Cadillacs on display from the EP funeral of 8/18/77. I did get her to speak on my vhs RCA video camera but I wish I would of thought to have her Autograph the thermometer as well... Also Dee looked good. Still had that white-blond hair color and was wearing a royal blue dress w/white heels but she was seemed Intimidating (to me).

She's quite an interesting person, and without question, she was in Elvis' life for many years. I'm pretty sure she made some outlandish claims after his death, (an incestuous relationship between he and his mother being the most "out there" of the bunch), but we can listen to these and decide for ourselves.
I love your work -- your nonjudgmental questioning is SO good -- even if I don't care for a person you're talking to, you have a non confrontational style that's to be admired.
These should definitely be included in any serious work done on Elvis' history.

I just saw Piers Morgan's interview with Priscilla re "Priscilla", where she said LM didn't feel like herself; complaining her stomach was hurting on the night of Oscars. Aside from medicines or drugs, there's a correlation in their autopsies - a twisted colon. I've experienced exactly how E was found, as they would have found me, if the excruciating pain had not stopped. Going to the bathroom, the excruciating pain, couldn't speak, falling onto the floor in fetal position convulsing, sweating profusely not knowing what would happen next; thought I was truly dieing. Went to specialists, nothing found. Noted in both reports E & LM. detected.
