This is an old telephone interview to cassette tape with a suction cup. So expect some noise .
Well this is the final Episode of this series with Marty Lacker .
It was great hearing them again .
'He went to school with (Elvis), that’s how they met. My dad was from New York, the Bronx, and he dressed just like Elvis did. They just formed a bond of friendship through that. They always took up for each other. Both of them went into the army and afterwards, a good friend of his re-introduced them and he went to work for him', said Mr. Lacker's son, Mark. 'They were like brothers. They respected each other'.
Mr. Lacker also worked in the music business both during his time with Elvis and after The King's 1977 death. In 1967, Lacker helped launch 'Pepper Records' and went on to become American Studios' vice president and business manager. In the early '70s, Lacker also helped co-found the local Grammy chapter and also served as the chairman of the original Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission.
If not for Marty Lacker, Elvis might never have gone to American Studios in 1969 to record the landmark 'From Elvis in Memphis' record.
If not for Mr. Lacker, then, the world might never have had such Presley hits as 'Suspicious Minds' - The King's last chart-topper - and 'In the Ghetto', among many others.

The majority of the so-called Memphis Mafia betrayed Elvis apart from Charlie hodge, Sam Thompson and probably Billy Smith Elvis first cousin. However, Billy Smith has stayed very quiet on whether Elvis was inappropriate with any underaged girls let alone Priscilla? I have seen Billy Smith knocking Elvis on interviews with Red and Sonny West do not know if I trust the arsehole??
@@keithoffredo2676 All of those guys were removed from Graceland, permanently. Lisa told Diane Sawyer she hoped they rotted in hell. Lisa was the ONLY one who loved Elvis with no agenda. All the rest, many relatives included, used him and then betrayed him.(Exception, Jerry Schilling.) This man literally had no one truly care for him, no matter how they try to convince anyone that they did.. Read all the history since his death. Talk to people who were around. People need to stop defending these guys.

No, he did not always speak the truth nor was he a good friend. E knew it and he was gone. He wasan't going to hire those guys back and he was about to fire most of the ones who were left. Major changes were about to happen within days of his last tour. Sadly, E died and now we have all the asses writing tell alls that are filled with untruths, even family members. The lies are ridiculous.
Marty is a really great guy, he is a very honest person and he tells everything as it is. He doesn’t sugarcoat things or lies or has any two faced intentions. He is just a very honest and authentic guy, very rare to come across. That‘s why he is one of my favorite members of the MM. I believe everything Marty says

Marty Lacker one of my favorites. He never sugar coat the truth like Charlie Hodge and Joe Esposito did. He told it like it was. For that I respected him tremendously! I believe everything Marty ever said. He was a no nonsense guy. A very intelligent man also. R.I. P. Mr Lacker!
Joe only looked out for Joe and Parker and Pris. Charlie was loyal to Elvis but did sugarcoat things.

I liked Marty. I read most of this in a book he wrote shortly after Elvis died.
This was done around dthe same time.

He only shows betrayal to a great man who trusted him.
I don't hear any betrayal in these interviews. Everyone knows Elvis wasn't perfect, but Marty dispels some negative myths about him and tells the truth about how the marriage came about.

@@abc-wv4in Marty Lacker was offered Best Man because of an incident beforehand and it was Elvis Presley's way of saying sorry - he gifted someone something. Marty in this interview accepted it because he wanted one over on Joe Esposito. Joe Esposito only once touched on this subject, (probably because it is so effing petty it's not worth the bother to keep going on about it) and he said that Elvis had told him (Joe Esposito) that he (Elvis) had made a mistake with Marty and had wanted to drop him as Best Man and have Joe as sole Best Man instead but according to Joe Esposito, he told Elvis he couldn't do that which is why there were Co-Best Men at Elvis' Wedding.
Marty is desperate for everyone to believe that Joe Esposito only got offered Best Man because he (Joe), Priscilla and Parker had forced Elvis into asking Joe. Marty says he didn't care about who got close to Elvis, but when you listen to his interviews, especially this one, and what he has written, he does nothing but sh*t on those who did get close to Elvis and accuses them anything and everything but the fact that Elvis might just have respected them, trusted them and yeas loved them as Brothers.
Still, let me clarify. At the time of the Wedding Marty was ONLY a Co-Foreman of the Memphis Mafia in Memphis and Joe was Co-Foreman in California which is where he lived with his wife and children. However, Joe was ALSO Elvis Presley's Road Manager AND Right Hand Man - Right Hand Man meaning he dealt with personal and professional issues of whatever nature that Elvis needed to get done. I'm inclined to believe Joe's version over Marty Lacker's any day of the week. Marty's is vindictive, nasty and attempting to discredit Joe Esposito and Elvis's reputation. Joe's sounds the more mature and believable and also he would have been close to Elvis Presley both Professionally and Personally - and it appears to me that Marty Lacker just could not handle that fact.
This man is really credible. Such a straight shooter. I have enormous respect for him. What an interview. Very revealing.
We need to hear more of these old interviews please. This one was fantastic. I totally agree with Marty when he said that Ginger was a trophy girlfriend. He had no intention of marrying her, whether he gave Ginger that impression or not.

Ginger NEVER protected Elvis in the way that Priscilla and particularly Linda did obviously..all she cared about was that she was dating Elvis and going out to clubs almost every night without Elvis.. she NEVER truly loved Elvis period he was a trophy for herself..jmo

It has some good information. And how he felt about Elvis ex wife.
He took questions for him on EER for years until we had a falling out. But he was at EER first .
@@jkrein82 Marty Lacker had a falling out with everyone he ever met. He couldn't stay long anywhere he went because he became belligerent. People wanted him to leave every place he went. This was in the early to mid 2000's that I'm familiar with, but I would guess it continued. Everyone knew it. He had a very bad reputation.

So glad I found these interviews from Marty. Marty always seemed like an honest and great guy. Thank you Marty, now I know a little more about who had Elvis's best interests. Love listening to these old interviews. You learn Elvis was human just like you and me with faults just like you and me. This is much better than readng a book someone wrote about him. Read parts 2, 3 and 4. Have to locate part 1 now.

It was actually Marty who was the lucky one. Lavished with houses, cars, jewelly clothes, eating at Graceland anytime, traveling to Hawaii and Las Vegas, Colorado. First class all the way. Then he betrayed Elvis. I have no use for betrayers, especially when it's someone I love. Elvis brought great joy to my life. These hanger's on brought great sorrow to Elvis. Lived a lavish lifestyle with him, then turned on him. I don't blame Priscilla one little bit for wanting some of these guys just gone. He didn't like the set up, huh? Too bad. Leave...for good. Elvis would have been the better for it. My feelings toward Priscilla have changed after she contested Lisa's will. I've lost any respect I had for her. With Elvis , it's always about the money....and he gave so freely to everyone, but it was never enough. May he RIP from what he suffered here on earth. A friend said he knew they were all using him, but his answer always was...but they have families to support. Kind hearted to the core.

Marty was definitely a true friend he doesn’t mince words he is a straight up no BS no frills kind of guy and I appreciate that he does t sugarcoat anything. He is absolutely right about one thing I’ve been to plenty of my friends funerals who’ve died young and seeing them in that casket is an image you will never be able to get out of your head. Hope all these guys are together at the Graceland in the sky having firework wars and reminiscing I’m sure they have a lot to catch up on.

Everyone ever interviewed tells their view of the Elvis story. Their truth. But it's only a piece of the truth. No one person knows it all. Well one person, Elvis and he's not here. Every one of the interviews of the group, and the women in his life give a story from an individual viewpoint. What I unfortunately get from these interviews is that Elvis didn't really have anyone he could totally trust but his parents. That just makes me sad. Many loved him but just not enough. 👑
You are astute in your interpretation of people talking about Elvis. There was ONE person who loved him unconditionally, with NO agenda. That was Lisa. It's turned out Jerry also. All the others wrote trashy books about the man who trusted them. Betrayers you would call them. Lacker, Fike, Billy, the worst. Billy still putting stuff up for auction he got from Elvis. I would guess he stole much of it after Elvis died right out of Graceland. Only Vernon was there to watch out over things....sadly. Billy actually put up for auction in '94 a great, personalized ID bracelet from Elvis with Billy's nickname engraved on one side and his name on the other. I just think I might have held on to that. Last month it was an expensive gun, and in between much more. These guys were all there to get what they could from Elvis...,and get, they did. He spent a fortune on all of them. I have read them complaining so much it's sickening. They don't have a clue how lucky they were. Then to go betray this good man is evil..

I still have that catalogue from the auction here in my office, as well as the EPE auction several years later in Vegas which I also attended. He had other things in it also, but that personalized thing I just couldn't believe. How cold. I didn't know about the Delta thing. There's an ashtray that use to sit on an end table next to long white sofa. It was in the Jimmy Velvet auction with 4 bidders on the phone as well as in the room. I heard Ringo was bidding. That must have been stolen!

Remember when he keeps talking about, 45.00 pay…in todays money that’s 475.00. + their food, clothing, autos, all had health insurance. If it was so little money, how did Marty buy his family a home while he was working for Elvis. I myself worked in those days, no heath insurance, no food allowance etc., certainly no company car, and 30.00 per week wasn’t at all bad. As I remember I rented a beautiful apartment in NY for 60.00 a month. So these guys crying poverty does not sit well with me.

The entire story starts with an immature guy in the area of women. He was too young and confused about female relationships. Cilla dad saw a future for his daughter. Thars why he allowed her to go to Graceland. You do not need to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. Her pregnancy sealed her a lifetime of financial security. She kept Graceland going for her need for attention and financial security. The very fact that she made a movie baring her intimate life with her child's father is disgusting!!! 😢
You need to get help. He was confused, alright. Natalie Wood had already witnesses Gladys trying to get him to sit on her lap in front of her at 22. It was incest. He was also with other men. Yall do these mental contortions and attack the messenger in denial of what is clearly true. Elvis didn't want a woman, any woman. He always wanted one around as a mother, nothing more. There is too much smoke and too many witnesses with nothing to gain or lose for these things not to be true.

It is interesting that codeine was found in Elvis' system. He was supposed to be allergic. No one questioned how it got there. That is probably why Vernon Presley felt someone did something to Elvis.

If John Lennon had a Memphis Mafia - especially a Red and Sonny West, he would not have been killed that evening by Mark Chapman. I think Sonny may have made a reference to that at some time too.
Sonny West has said a million times.."I'd take a bullet for him". Well, yeah, easy to say as it never even came close. Sonny and Red were fired because there were too many lawsuits for ruffing up fans. They were gone a year, but Red still calling Elvis and recording him secretly trying to STILL get stuff off of him! They proceeded to write a book that would hurt Elvis tremendously, and I feel put the final nail in his coffin.These guys...most ALL of them, were leeches and if most fans had their way, it would have been for all of them to not be there and more respectable, loyal ones be in their place. Lisa told Diane Sawyer she hoped they all rotted in hell. None were allowed around Graceland once Vernon died and things changed. Lisa had nothing to do with them her whole life. SHE KNEW. When the one person in his life who loved him most wants nothing to do with certain people, ever again, one must think about that. Just a thought to put things in perspective.

I think the past 40 years since E died and they died speak for themselves. Red has stayed away from making his living on Elvis' coat tails. He has pretty much kept to himself. I admire him for that. He wrote a book. The book was true. I am a huge Elvis fan. But Elvis could never say he was sorry and fired his friends many many times over. That was to show 'his friends' who was in charge. The writing of that book was just as much Elvis' doing as anyone's. He fired them one too many times and they had it. And he couldn't say, "I'm sorry". That is what lead to his downfall. Regardless of the great person EP was. Everyone has faults. Elvis had as many as any of us.
Elvis, Sonny and Dave were fired because they threatened the Stanley boys to stop bro g drugs (cocaine).. to Elvis.. Stanley boys told Elvis.. Elvis spoke to Red - told him to back off nonetheless they were fired shortly thereafter. Their dedication to Elvis had them do what no one else attempted because everyone else was afraid of getting fired.. permanently. Well, Red, Sonny and Dave were not. That is true love and friendship. Why do you think Ricky Stanley.. exactly 2 months after Elvis died (Oct 16, 1977), gave his life over to Jesus? Became born again? It has a lot to do with drugs, Elvis, and getting and giving drugs to Elvis I am sure.
They wrote a book that was true. Elvis most loved blood cousin and highest MM confidant in the last two years of Elvis’ life, Billy Smith, says so and he remained friends with them. Elvis should have lived a better life behind the scenes I guess if you think it is a nasty book. I don’t.
Lisa was 9 years old when Elvis died. She saw things through a nine year old’s eye. Sure Lisa wanted them to rot.. because the book breached the thing Elvis valued most… privacy.. and exposed the worst according to her and Elvis (I guess)…and she felt what they divulged was intended to ruin Elvis. She saw that as the unforgivable and she is allowed to have her opinion. But again, the book was true. And Elvis hurt them because they were interfering with his drug flow. Lisa obviously choose not to believe they had sincere love in their actions.. because Elvis was upset and it hurt her daddy. I think Lisa should be upset with her dad for wanting to put a hit out on a man- have him KILLED. And… making out with tons, yes tons of 14 year olds… making out.. and some won’t say any more.. but who knows. Perhaps put that into perspective to see that Lisa’s opinion and view are skewed based on love for her dad and wanting to protect him.
Elvis called Red. Red did not call Elvis. Elvis offered each three $50,000 to stop the book. He didn’t even offer it himself but through his lawyer. They declined. All he had to do was apologize and I am sure it would have all be settled. But, again, Elvis could not say sorry. Of all the books and interviews I read/heard.. I think there are two documented times he apologized. Once to Marty Lacker after him and his dad went on a “Jew” derogatory rant.. and I think the other was to Sonny or Red.. I can’t recall at the moment. Twice in 20 years.. with Elvis firing them over and over to show them who is boss and keep them towing the Elvis line. Like I said, he fired them once to many times.
Watch the recent documentary about Elvis’ 14 years olds he made out with and dated… perhaps he shouldn’t have. He wanted to put a hit out on Mike Stone. Don’t believe that, ask Mike Stone he is easy to contact in the Philippines. Perhaps see it without having Elvis as an idol. Then you may see what Red, Sonny and Dave did was real friendship… truth when your friend doesn’t want to hear it…. But needs to.
In closing, Elvis died twice before Aug 16, 197$ and it was Red and the gang that brought him back and got him medical attention. They saved his life twice. The 10 drugs in Elvis’ system when he died is what cause the heart attack and or polipharmacy to kill him and after many years of heavy drug /pill abuse. There was enough downers in Elvis’ body to kill an elephant I am sure of it…
10 drugs include:

Morphine: A potent form of opiate, morphine is a highly controlled substance that is both addictive and dangerous when used without supervision.
Methaqualone: Methaqualone is a barbiturate-like sedative and hypnotic medication that is more commonly known by its brand name, Quaalude. This central nervous system depressant was popular for recreational use in the 1970s and 1980s.
Diazepam: Better known as Valium, diazepam is a benzodiazepine commonly used for conditions like anxiety and insomnia.
N-Desmethyldiazepam: More commonly referred to as nordazepam, this benzodiazepine can be used for anxiety, insomnia and seizures. Today, it is a less common choice versus other benzodiazepine forms.
Ethinamate: Another hypnotic and sedative medication, ethinamate is a carbamate derivative that can be highly addictive.
Ethclorvynol: Sold under the name Placidyl, ethclorvynol was a GABA-ergic sedative and hypnotic medication popular in the mid-1990s for treating insomnia. Today, Placidyl is no longer available in the US due to dwindling demand in favor of safer and more effective alternatives but can still be found in other countries.

Phenobarbital: A barbiturate similar to pentobarbital, phenobarbital is a short-term drug used to treat anxiety, insomnia and seizures. A bit weaker than the lethal killer Pentobarbital.
Butabarbital: Butabarbital is a barbiturate used to treat insomnia and anxiety disorders.
If you don’t think that mixture of drugs killed Elvis but a written book did, you are sorely wrong. I face listen to Elvis on that taped recorded phone call of Red’s - he’s stoned out of his mind. Also, after the TWO pre Alova concert interviews, short as they were, because he was stoned in both of them, the Col. Ended all future public interviews of that kind. Not another since 1972…
Elvis had a death threat in 1970 at the International in Vegas… FBI was involved. Elvis called Red in (they were on the outs since the wedding), and Red came no problem. Red and Sonny were there prepared to take a bullet this is a fact.
In Feb 18, 1973… 4 men jumped the stage and attacked Elvis… guess who got them first? Red and Sonny along with Jerry Shilling.. Elvis apparently kick one as well as he had his right foot x-rayed the day after by his Las Vegas physician Dr. Elias Ghanem.

I love hearing Marty tell history. I believe him and what he says. I don’t think he embellished anything like I believe many did. Nonetheless, I am a huge supporter of Red, Sonny, Marty, Lamar, and Billy. I do like Jerry and Joe as well but I do think they catered to Priscilla after E died - just my opinion.
I wonder if Elvis’ need for more privacy in 1976-1977 also may have had to do with the physical shape he was in (they would have known him at his peak), and his greater pill dependency. Being heavier and more into pills would make me feel extra sensitive to be around my friends that knew me in better days..

Red, Sonny, Dave wrote that book, revealed too many details El life,.. called him a " walking drugstore". Was in revenge bcz were fired.
Prisc had left in 72, live W/ Mike. S. . then dated various men, amongst them , Robert Kardashian( one OJ lawyer, Kim dad)
In after El. died, 77, lived w/ Mike Edwards, , 78, 84, then w/ Garibaldi 20 yrs. , 86- 06.. She had no contact w/ MM, or catered to by ..
In the last years of Elvis life he
was struggling financially. That why he getting rid of some people.

So Billy told Marty that Elvis only wants the young guys working in shifts and one guy here at the house, Elvis wants his privacy and Marty said well good he wished he had of done that years ago. Billy said good im glad you rang first and didnt come straight to the gate and not being let in. Elvis just wants some privacy. Yet he didnt like it and blamed Pricilla for Elvis spending his time with Joe and joany Jerry Shilling and his wife.
No one likes to feel left out and ignored by a friend.
How would you feel if your friend tells you to go away because his wife doesn't like that you don't kiss her ass and prefers his other friends that do kiss her ass??
