Shelea did an outstanding job on this song, and Donald Lawrence captured Twinkie sound so perfectly. Often people do not understand that on the original version sung lead and bgv.
This version is better than the original because if you're asking Jesus to unhook the chain and ease the pain there shouldn't be anything sorrowful about it like in the much slower original version. This version sounds more triumphant and victorious.
I feel like the slower one was better but this was is beautiful one. I don’t feel it was sorrowful I feel it was a place peace and speaking about that joy in the peace.
The only one who sounded like the person they were playing is Sheleah🤷🏾♂️ I respect it bc they actually were very strategic when casting her and Dr. Mattie’s role more than the others.
