My grandmother had a washing machine like Doreen’s . Just have to be careful and not get your arm caught in the wringer as you are feeding the clothes through. My cousin did that. Your house is amazing. And yes, James is a treasure.
You know, it was more stressful before building the house than during. The anticipation and anxiety of the unknown ate at me a lot! Now the pressure comes from winter’s approach. We’re really having a lot of fun building our little house!!

James reminds me so much of my Dad (who was also James) he passed away few Months ago. He was a builder and would draw the plans for so many homes, then build them. I really love that you want to do your laundry in such a green way. It looks exhausting to me, however, I'm not young like you but that will keep you young! It seems that I am always finding a stray and it usually works out that I find the owner, but this last one stayed and I loved that dog so very much. He had an intuition like a human. We just had to help him cross the rainbow bridge and I miss him so much. I still have my sweet pittie and she will be traveling with me when my van build is finished. I absolutely love the way your home is coming together and I have a feeling you will have such a feeling of fulfillment that it will be indescribable. Those logs are the piece de la resistance in the finished product. Then again, who knows what other amazing things you will be doing in this build? The sky is the limit! We live in a concrete block home that was built in 1952, only 1100 sq ft. They are such underrated houses. Literally living in an above ground basement. Not much has shifted either after literally 70 years. So smart guys 😊

I paid a contractor to work on my (former) home, and it was not particularly fun. I definitely did not hug my contractor. I had a similar system for laundry as Dorene for about 5 years. I got this system after a 2nd or 3rd washing machine broke. It really made me mad that things are made so poorly. I begged my husband to let me get an old fashioned system. It was a wash tub I got from lowes with a built in washboard in the front of it. Then I attached a hand crank Amish wringer from Lehmann’s. The wringer was very heavy so I had to build a wooden frame around the wash tub in order to support the weight of the wringer. I did the wash and rinse in the same tub, draining the water between wash load and rinse load. wringing both into a large plastic tote. I loved doing laundry this way. It was satisfying and rewarding. You could probably build something to set in your bathtub that would work quite well. 🙏🙏🙏

There are a few videos on YT showing how you can make a wringer using two cheap and/or old rolling pins. I've been washing my clothes by hand in a bathtub for nearly a year now. You use any kind of container, water, soap, let them soak, agitate periodically if your clothes are really dirty, then rinse. One thing that can make this easier is using a new dedicated plunger to agitate (people sell these in kits now, but it's just a plunger). The plunger will actually push and pull water through the clothing fibers. You'll have to find the best method for your needs, there are dozens of videos and blog posts about washing clothes without a machine.
It's obvious that James is having the time of his life! He's absolutely loving doing this for/with the two of you, and once your house is done, he'll need to find another "passion project". Go, James!! May all of you stay safe and build happy.

It has no meaning unless it’s used and you can’t use it yourself all the time and so the weight of it gets heavier the only practical thing is to share it transfer it to others and with it the weight is lighter the sharing rewarding and it makes room for new things to come onboard. Do you guys just ever stop and marvel at how things have manifested for you? Like as soon as you consciously decided to live in a way that was more authentic, albeit unconventional and maybe deemed nutty but many people, that’s when the universe unraveled her gifts. Like with each effort you put forth to build your life the universe meets you with opportunity. Scamp life, seeing and connecting to your world, saving money, planning for the future, buy land with saved money, have incredible neighbors, neighbors help you build home, you’re living and building your dreams. Authenticity, hard work, bravery in the face of adversity and all along the universe continues to leave you big and little treasures to find on your path. It’s mind blowing!!!

Watching the friendships grow is magical and an honour Being nearly 60 myself you come to see knowledge and experience as a weight. It has no meaning unless it’s used and you can’t use it yourself all the time and so the weight of it gets heavier the only practical thing is to share it transfer it to others and with it the weight is lighter the sharing rewarding and it makes room for new things to come onboard. I like the building videos but I also like when you show us your everyday life stuff. I liked to see how you might be doing laundry. When you do it in the winter how will it dry without freezing? How will your kitchen be set up? Will you each have a dedicated area to do your crafts? How are your crafts coming along? Are you still selling things you make?
