Hey Barron & Elsa, All those years of frugality has finally paid off for you guys. Not only did you experience joy of traveling throughout the U.S., you've made friends along the way and have many beautiful memories stored up. It is very rewarding watching y'all building your own house on your own land. Each time I tune it to watch one of your newly posted vids, I am so happy to see your progress. Y'all have so many plans coming into fruition soon. Looking forward to seeing your garden eventually. 😀 Few more months and Barron, will be itching to go hunting...then the real homesteading begins! Elsa, I see you making gloves, a jacket or two, boots, pouches, throw rug, etc. from the furs/hides. Y'all will be self sustaining in a few years. Congratulations on all your hard work and sacrifices to achieve your dream goals. Nice having family/friends helping build your new house. Upon completion, I see a huge, BBQ and dance shindig, for sure!! Stay safe. God bless ✝️! 🫂 🤗 to the 3 of you. CarrieJo 73 ys. of age but mentally only 45! 😁 😆

We dry laid our blocks when we built our house 40 years ago. We parged both sides of the block with B-Bond. It is a rich cement with tiny pieces of fiberglass. It is flexural strong, just not vertically. You can't build high story homes, but worked out great for us. No issues in all these years, no cracks, nothing. We used the rebar, and filled the holes with concrete as well. At that time there was another product called Sure-Wall.

17:28 The cement concrete is suitable for resisting compressive forces but are weaker in tension, to resist tensile forces TMT bars are used as due to reversal of winds it may generate on any side.

Pro Civil Engineer also came on to chime in about this question :)) concrete is great for compressive forces, steel bars better for tensile forces. Now your walls have more integrity in flexion thanks to the bars.

Cement houses are the most common in my country where it's tropical. Our cements are not that thick though so we had to make sure that our rebars are really strongly connected to the foundation and that we fill cement in each level of concrete first before we move on to another level to make sure that it's filled with no air gaps. It also earthquakes here a lot so we make sure that each corner has a thick pillar to hold the weight of the walls.

I bought a '69 F250 back in '96... $2k... it was like joining a club... and maybe put 50k into it over the years... I have used no mortar block stacking on several projects...an outdoor cooking fireplace and a very solid bridge across a 6 foot deep ditch that runs with water over half the year... and used waste plastic cores from rolls that were used to hold lumber load covering paper instead of rebar and cement... it has held up without budging for years... old well casings from the property were used for the water passageway under the bridge wide enough for the riding lawn mowers and carts to cross... the only cement was in the railing bases... considered rebar and cement core filling, but had the waste plastic tubes that just fit the holes in the blocks.
As a suggestion consider a future project of a solar cooker... lots of them in the sunny states where you are living... learn the concepts and you can do a DYI version of maybe a large box oven... I have built and designed funnel cookers for less than $50 ... I have cooked stews of about 2 quarts in a couple hours in Puget Sound region... building a larger box cooker would be a nice project. And less fuel used in cooking.

Love the new truck! I have a ‘95 Ford F-150 that’s a great farm truck my grandpa bought me when I was in 7th grade (I’m almost 23 now). We rescued it after the owner had died 5 yrs prior and had been sitting ever since up in the mountains. My grandma has a ‘96 Ford F-150 V8. My grandpa bought it new and it now has over 362k miles, original engine and automatic transmission. My gram just had the steering rack and gas tank sending units replaced. She also has a ‘91 F150 V6 that has over 163k miles. Both are awesome with 4x4 and have proven to be very reliable workhorses! And it is so worth it to fix an old truck considering the insane cost of a new vehicle!

Another great video guys! I'm really enjoying watching the house come along. To answer your question about the rebar/cement Elsa. Cement is very strong under compression, but comparatively weak under tension. Rebar is added to give it additional strength when in tension. This helps reduce cracking in the cement as it goes through expansion and contraction with changing temperatures.

Good to see you doing this work so well...in my area it’s a normal use, however the helpers, people contracted to do it don’t do it as well, they make a mess with cement and sand everywhere. Well done, plus even more so is having such wonderful friends helping you and making it be a much more pleasant work. I lived in Del Rio, TX and another wonderful thing was how they built a larger river in the frontier with Mexico, so it became normal for the housing also make themselves some water around their area with tread and branches to provide some shadow in the summer time..so darn hot...very common 125-30C...and very more pleasant in the winter, very seldom snow, but cold winds, the trees were also helpful. 🤗💫😎 also your question, the summer and winter winds are strong, and also so dangerous tornados does happen in open areas, Texas had that problem ever so often, so the house wall being stronger endures the storms better

I've watched every video you've ever made and I'll never forget the day you got your land. Strange as it may seem, I actually cried because I was so happy for you both. What a deserving couple! I love the smile that comes over my face every time I watch a new video of the incredible progress you are making with your home, how much you are learning and how much fun you are having doing it. You are both so inspirational and great role models for this upcoming 5D world and I'm proud of you both! Thank you for teaching me another way to view things and for sharing so much of yourselves and your lives with us. ♥

The concrete in and of itself is brittle. The rebar acts kind of like a rope holding a bundle of wood together. If the rope is tied the bundle stays tight. As soon as you undo the knot it the bundle loses it's integrity. It is so awesome to see your house take shape. Y'all picked a great spot with great neighbors

I own a cinder block home in Arizona. The downside is that the cinder block heats up in the summer causing the AC to work twice as hard just to keep the house cool. The walls remain warm to the touch from baking in the Arizona sun. In the winter months, the walls remain cool and the heater has to compensate as well. Get a good HVAC system to manage these issues and you should be fine. Happy building. 🥰

The truck has WINGS! I miss wings on cars. They really added a lot of ventilation. Good purchase on the truck, I seriously doubt you'll need to put 20k in it though. Maybe another 3k to bring it up to perfect.

What you guys are doing is exactly what I want to do with my house...it'll be a little bit different of a layout but still... what you're doing is... it's beautiful... I love how you also show the oops's and how to fix the oops. The friends that you've made are exactly what I would love to have happened... unfortunately I've seen alot of people who've got horrible neighbors...you guys got really lucky, really really lucky with your land and your neighbors. I hope to have the same luck.

As impressive as it is that you have such good, experienced neighbors who are so willing to share their knowledge, is the fact that you recognize thier wisdom and listen to and learn so much from them, instead of being like so many younger folks (i can call you young, because i’m 59…lol) act like the older generation is clueless and have nothing to offer…nice to see you guys value them for all they know and have been happy to help you with.
