I rode the 20th Century Limited to Chicago as a 14 year old boy in 1962. I remember it's beautiful dining car and its famous blueberry pancakes. It was a special trip.
Hearing the whistles I really like number 2 . Just a gorgeous set! You can keep the journey of Timmy and any crew talk. The engine sounds are good enough for me.
I’m gonna go with Whistle #2! That deep tone is a sound we don’t usually hear, makes this set unique, and MAN DOES IT SOUND COOL!!!! Awesome review Chris!
Excellent video my friend! So glad Lionel finally brought this icon back! Personally the color in person is amazing and makes those drive wheels pop! Team NYC all the way!
The detail on this engine is vision level. Its a stunning set. I have the full set as well and you cant help but smile when you see it. And for those who are bothered by the paint, I’m sure lionel will do future runs. Great video Chris, keep up the good work👍🏼
I'm really digging the 2nd whistle. My Daylight has that same whistle actually. Such an amazing train. 15 years (2008 - 2023) of standing by and the signal finally shows green! This thing is like the Buzz Lightyear of Lionel in terms of how some shops are yet to order enough engines to meet demand. And the competition is fierce. This year, Lionel released the newest gen Vision Line Big Boy and the SRC/GW 90, but that speedy little streamliner just kicked all their tenders! I wonder how this will look in Polar Express colors-- OH WAIT.
Number 3 is my favorite whistle, but they’re all outstanding. I do think the set is too light a shade of grey. There are color photos of the 1938 Century and the prototype was closer to the MTH version. But still a gorgeous set. You have a fantastic layout to run it on, Chris!
Great Review! I love The Dreyfuss Hudson, And The Entire Set! This is something Everybody Has Been Waiting On. (Also Love The New Intro) I'm Team New York Central
Hi Chris! This was a wonderful video of one of my favorite locomotives, the J3a Hudson by itself is a beautiful and iconic locomotive, but, the Dreyfus takes the cake for me. These are beautiful models, I agree, the Lionel Legacy version paint looks a little light to me but it's a gorgeous locomotive nonetheless. All the whistles are great but I like number 1 for this locomotive. Thanks Chris!
Great action with gorgeous trains. I especially enjoyed the vibrant color you threw in with the Pacemaker Mohawk (?) and matching freight set. Really fun video, and BTW, I prefer whistle #2.
Despite being an N gauge guy, I always enjoy watching your videos. (maybe I'm actually an O gauge guy at heart) For reference, Hudson and 8 passenger cars are 60" total length in N scale.
The "Lots of talk" at 1:12 was fantastic! Horn #2 for me! My MTH Premier passenger set, labeled and ordered as the 20th Century Limited came with a Commodore Vanderbilt lighted drum head! No one is perfect.
I am a fan of the number two whistle!! And I really get a kick out of your facial expressions when you demonstrate the new purchases on your channel. Keep the videos coming!
Here’s my 2 1/2 cents from the west coast floor layout guy. Whistle #2. Ahh… the color thing. Hmm, well, if color is gonna make you loose sleep, pay the piper and never pre-order cuz Lionel just can’t manage; Tuscan (Orange) S-1 anyone?. However, it sure is fun just to run ‘em isn’t it. Maybe cuz I’m from the west, I’ve never liked any of the Art Deco era locomotives, deliberately avoiding the daylight paint SP GS for a stripped down black GS-2. That said I really enjoy watching you guys out east pay tribute to these wonderful and memorable East Coast trains; they just seem to look good out there. Chris, your layout is a wonderful example of how we O-gauger’s find our compromises. Paying astronomical sums for realism to run trains past pipe-cleaner trees and Lego people; that brought the biggest smile to my face. So… to all of us. To all our passion in this silly hobby as we partner with a 125 year old company that continues to exist in a digital world that destroys all comers. To all of us; Merry Christmas!
Whistle number 2 just sounds appropriate for no. 5252. I can't explain why I feel this way, there's something that just tells me that's the whistle for that specific locomotive. Hope your Hanukah, Christmas, and New Year's go well for you. Many tracks of love, Josh
After opening mine and setting it up today, I have to say I really like it! I don’t see any issues with the passengers marching the loco. It’s a keeper
BEAUTIFUL!!! What an awesome run of toy train thoroughbreds! My fave would be the NYC over the Pennsy and as for the Dreyfuss’s whistle, I’m kind of liking the second one.
I'm normally more of a PRR fan, but the NYC Hudsons were some of the most beautiful locomotives in the history of railroading. A shame none of these survived in real life, but glad we're still getting such good models of them.
I am team Pennsy but I model PRR, NYC, and B&O in the Pittsburgh Division. Glad I don't have to deal with different DCC protocols in HO scale. Option 1 is most prototypical but it's up to you. Very nice model!
What a beautiful trainset. I go for whistle #2 but really, #1 and #3 are also just totally fantastic !! And I'm in team NYC ... but that can change every second because the PRR T1 is also so amazing ... oh my. All those choices. This video makes me really want to build a huge double-track oval layout so I can set up a train race like that! 😃
Have the bite-sized versions myself, a Railking Empire State Express, a postwar 221 black Dreyfus, and an unstreamlined J3a Hudson Jr. In my little alt-history headcannon, my road bought 'em off the NYC for scrap value when there was a passenger power crunch. Two came complete, the other was partially dismantled sans tender and was originally for parts, but was later rebuilt with Caprotti poppet valve gear and a surplus PRR tender.
I have the MTH version of the 20th Century Limited. Mine is the 1949 version. I thought I remember Mike Wolf (owner at the time) was able, somehow to get a paint chip from the real 20th Century and that’s the color they used. I like the #2 as it gives you the more bossy feeling but the others are nice also. Enjoyed the clip. Keep it up.
Chris this is a great video I just love the choice in color of the New York central and the thumbnail of this video is great. Thanks for giving us a great train video!
Nice looking set! As a kid in the sixties i took the 20th Century Ltd.with my parents to Chicago for Christmas, we boarded at Croton Harmon NY. Great memories . Greetings from Port Saint Lucie, Florida! Yuletide greetings as well !
These are badass! I’m an HO guy, and had to laugh thinking the music coming out of my Rapido units was strange….. ain’t got nothing on Timmy. It could be my cousin, he’s a Lionel cat too. The mystery deepens. Nice layout, nice trains, nice stuff, ya know, for a Lionel guy 😉😂👍
What a neat and very elaborate set! I’d probably go with whistle no 2. As a postwar collector, I own the 1st model of a Dreyfus Hudson that Lionel ever produced which is the No 221 with its tender (221T) . The locomotive was first produced in 1946 and came in grey NYC colors as well as a black version with mine being the grey NYC colored version. It would be very cool to line both models up and see how far Lionel have come in the past 75+ years of manufacturing model trains!
Beautiful set, I love the blue stripes going down the side. Option 2 for the Whistle sounds the best. Between the Hudson and the S1 I'd go with the S1. Great video Chris!
Nice video. I like whistle 2, it better matches a magnificent engine. Although I am a loyal PRR fan, I can really appreciate the Dreyfuss Hudson. It was fun to see the T1 with its Tuscan passenger cars and your new 20th Century Limited set pacing each other around your layout.
Good Saturday morning! The Dreyfus was such a cool looking engine. My cousin had an HO version back in the 70’s and I always wanted one for my American Flyer trains. At age 66 I still want one for my S Scale. But that’s never going to happen as I am not a custom builder. So for now I’ll sit here this morning drooling over your 3 rail version. Thanks for showing it off! Merry Christmas from Christopher Burger @Cbtrainnut on RUclips!
Whistle #1 for me, but to me whistle #1 & #3 almost sound the same, maybe a little different pitch, definitely have to get one of these someday. Mama loves this engine and would love to add one to my collection for her, real shame one of these never got saved. Enjoy watching and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the train run of this phenomenal train set, Chris. It's quite overwhelming! As for favourite horn sounds, I pick #2 because of the deep tone. Very distinct. Dreyfuss was a very forward looking designer. Too bad none of locomotives survives.
Number 3 is my favorite just a beautiful train wow I just subscribed to your channel can't wait to checkout all your videos wonderful layout love it great job!
As always, nice video, Chris. Hoping that one will appear under my Christmas tree! By the way, the color looks great. Life is too short to worry about trivial things. Again, great video. Happy Railroading! 🚂🚃🚋
Number 2 is my favorite as well. It's one of my favorite engines!
@@Tattooedtrainsthose JLC Big boy whistles give some nostalgia
U know it #2
I like whistle number 3! I love Timmy. Sounds just like me as a kid. Timmy's entire story is amazing. Timmy, use your manners!
I wonder how many kids like him who remember the glory days of rail travel are still around? I'm betting some of them served in WW2 around that time.
I’m gonna go with Whistle #2! That deep tone is a sound we don’t usually hear, makes this set unique, and MAN DOES IT SOUND COOL!!!! Awesome review Chris!
Whistle 2, I just love deeper toned whistles, also the deeper whistle makes the engine sound more prominent like its the boss
Excellent video my friend!
So glad Lionel finally brought this icon back! Personally the color in person is amazing and makes those drive wheels pop!
Team NYC all the way!
I’m going with whistle 2. This set looks absolutely GORGEOUS!! Merry Christmas to all model railroaders🎄🚂
I’d have to agree with you on that!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Beautiful BRO!! Sound great, looks great, RAVE ON MAN,AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, COOL!!😀😃😄😁😆🤟🤘👍👍🚂🚂🚂🚂
The detail on this engine is vision level. Its a stunning set. I have the full set as well and you cant help but smile when you see it. And for those who are bothered by the paint, I’m sure lionel will do future runs. Great video Chris, keep up the good work👍🏼
I am definitely on the PRR team. I like whistle #2. Great looking train set for a NYC train.

Great Review! I love The Dreyfuss Hudson, And The Entire Set! This is something Everybody Has Been Waiting On. (Also Love The New Intro) I'm Team New York Central
Whistle 3 is the NYC Whistle. Go with that one!
The Dreyfuss is definitely one of my top favorite steam engine! It's whistle is so unique!
I love the dialogues
I think the 2nd one was the best. This engine just looks so powerful and the deeper whistle really does it justice. Amazing video Chris!
Thanks for watching! Happy Holidays!
Number 2 on the whistle, hands down, that deep tone gave me goosebumps. Thanks for the post Chris!
Awesomeness, that is all I will say
So much fun watching, thank you for making it happen! Whistle #2 for me!
4:43 Same here. If I was a billionaire. I would build a replica of an NYC Hudson. Like the Commodore Vanderbilt.
I know we’re about to get a lot of videos from you and I’m so excited, I know this because you had facial hair in your community post.
Extraordinary looking layout and train collection i like whistle number 2 👍🏻✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
Great action with gorgeous trains. I especially enjoyed the vibrant color you threw in with the Pacemaker Mohawk (?) and matching freight set. Really fun video, and BTW, I prefer whistle #2.
There are no words for the envy I'm feeling. Luckily got a raise and ordered the 3rd Rail Passenger Set (finally!) All the whistles sound so cool!
Whistle #2 suits the engine because I can imagine the engine having that whistle back in 1938.
Despite being an N gauge guy, I always enjoy watching your videos. (maybe I'm actually an O gauge guy at heart) For reference, Hudson and 8 passenger cars are 60" total length in N scale.

#2. Keep up the great work!
I am a fan of the number two whistle!!
And I really get a kick out of your facial expressions when you demonstrate the new purchases on your channel. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Tyler! It is fun going through all of the stuff these trains can do.
Here’s my 2 1/2 cents from the west coast floor layout guy.

Good morning Chris. Beautiful set hands down. Gonna have to go with #2; really makes a statement. Congratulations 👏🏼 👏🏼
RBP, Terrific looking train set. Thanks for sharing.
BEAUTIFUL!!! What an awesome run of toy train thoroughbreds! My fave would be the NYC over the Pennsy and as for the Dreyfuss’s whistle, I’m kind of liking the second one.
Chris, just an awesome presentation…and your collection is ti die for😮
I'm normally more of a PRR fan, but the NYC Hudsons were some of the most beautiful locomotives in the history of railroading. A shame none of these survived in real life, but glad we're still getting such good models of them.
Timmy's return is fantastic. Great video friend!
I am a New York Central girl. I love the 20th Century Limited!!!
That is an awesome set, I'm a big fan of the New York Central. The observation car from the 20th century limited still exists today.
Congratulations! Yeah, that's your favorite train you must be pretty excited.
Awesome set. I would love to just sit in your train room and watch your trains roll by.
I am team Pennsy but I model PRR, NYC, and B&O in the Pittsburgh Division. Glad I don't have to deal with different DCC protocols in HO scale. Option 1 is most prototypical but it's up to you. Very nice model!

The oval helps for these tests, haha!
Definitely number 2, and both sets reminds me of that old Super man cartoon beautiful sets Chris just beautiful 😊😊😊😊
Great det and layout!! Whistle #2 for me!! Thanks for sharing!!
Wait how's Timmy? Did Timmy make it home? Timmy!! That's a great addition to the trainset.
Whistle 1 and 3 where my favorites! Also as always another great video by Chris!
Have the bite-sized versions myself, a Railking Empire State Express, a postwar 221 black Dreyfus, and an unstreamlined J3a Hudson Jr.

Chris congrats the 20th century limited train is AWESOME GOD BLESS YOU YOUR FAMILY HAPPY HOLIDAYS NOW RUN THOSE TRAINS ;-)
Happy Holidays Carl!
Keep it up.
Such a wonderful train, all 3 whistles are good but I am going to say the first one, #1 whistle, Keep up the good work Chris 😊😊
Chris, we ordered and received the 5454 fantasy paint scheme. It is almost the shade of the photo 2 MTH. It is such a fantastic engine.
Side by side classics. Love it. 😊
Chris this is a great video I just love the choice in color of the New York central and the thumbnail of this video is great. Thanks for giving us a great train video!
I believe Option 1, the default option is the best fitting for this locomotive for sure. Chris, this video is awesome!!😃😃 Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Nice looking set! As a kid in the sixties i took the 20th Century Ltd.with my parents to Chicago for Christmas, we boarded at Croton Harmon NY. Great memories . Greetings from Port Saint Lucie, Florida! Yuletide greetings as well !
What a great memory!
Talking about the colors, I see it. But with everything lionel, it grows on you. I like it.
It would be very cool to line both models up and see how far Lionel have come in the past 75+ years of manufacturing model trains!
Beautiful set! and whistle #2
Gorgeous engine, mine came this week. Lionel knocked it out of the park.
Absolutely awesome looking set! So glad I ordered this as well!!
Wow. Those Hudson’s look great running fast. Your layout is really ideal for this kind of thing. Also, I’m team PRR!

Dang Chris New intro sequence! I dig it! But I have to admit you’re making me want to branch out and expand my collection with this video!
What a cool locomotive for the Christmas season
I like whistle 2 the best, and that Timmy dialog is amazing! I think the grandpa at the end might be the best part haha
It cracks me up, lol!
The bell on the New York Central Hudson streamline sounds good. I chose number 2: deeper ghost whistle
Thanks for the train run of this phenomenal train set, Chris. It's quite overwhelming! As for favourite horn sounds, I pick #2 because of the deep tone. Very distinct. Dreyfuss was a very forward looking designer. Too bad none of locomotives survives.
Imagine if this beautiful locomotive was still around if it wasnt scrapped ❤❤❤😢 and whistle number 2 really goes great for her in my opinion
Hearing the whistles I think, that the number 2 fits the steam engine best. Love the light grey color of the train.
the new york central hudson is my favorite steam locomotive the 2nd whistle is perfect for such a best of a locomotive
5:29 how dizzy we’re you?! 🤣🤣
Great video train fam!! 😎
THE TRAIN IS AMAZING AND THE NEW INTRO IS FIRE
Awesome! I love the 20th Century Limited!
Darrenbury Central Hi lovely layout. I think the second whistle is best. Just found your channel very good.❤
Beautiful engine and train. I like Whistle number 2.
Very well done love the dinner car sounds and the skull wheels
Definitely #2. Fits very well for the time period the locomotive is modeled after
i love the 20th Century Limited.
very nice set, those Hudsons are so iconic. One thing I would like to see is a North Coast Limited from Lionel.
Congrats on the new train. I really like the herald on the rear of the observation car - that's really nice
That’s an incredible locomotive! Coaches look great too!!
I will agree …. Your Hudson is beautiful but the SP Daylight is my beauty.
Love the Hudson New York Central in grey , nice but like you said the Hudson started the whole Lionel trains , it’s the Benchmark for all others.
Seriously a beautiful train i really understand why its u favorite...😎😎
Sweet!! The Dreyfuss Hudsons are one of my favorite class of American locomotives.
Wish Rivarossi would do another run in HO scale…
Beautiful engine! I like the number 2 whistle the best!
Sneaky hiding 90’s throughout the video …..🤩
#2 is the best - it sounds like the Southern Pacific Daylight Holiday Express!
I love this new legacy loco and I want it it looks so cool and exclusive I love this locomotive the whistles are perfect on it.
Number 3 is my favorite just a beautiful train wow
I just subscribed to your channel can't wait to checkout all your videos wonderful layout love it great job!
Thank you and welcome aboard!
As always, nice video, Chris. Hoping that one will appear under my Christmas tree! By the way, the color looks great. Life is too short to worry about trivial things. Again, great video. Happy Railroading! 🚂🚃🚋
That's an astonishing train set
