    Incredibly well made video once again! The editing here is superb as well with the transitions, and I'm glad to see that Empire State Rails, a fellow Long Islander like myself, helped make the case for placing the G5s up towards the top. I feel those engines aren't discussed by Pennsy enthusiasts when compared to LIRR fans. Thanks for explaining some stats about some of the Pennsy's famous and lesser known engines.

    Also thank you for not mentioning the farse of the buried J1.
    Didn't know some L1s got sold to L&NE & ATSF, that was news for me

      Yeah I really hate that J1 myth, there ain't shit underneath Enola yard lol.
      As for the new T1 whistle; I took what whistle I wanted, cloned it, changed the kuid to the payware whistle (the number at the end needs to be higher than the default one), saved it (but didn't submit edits), and then imported the new whistle via content folder. That's also how I changed the engine sounds and Espec.

      I mean, I'm a Pennsy guy, but the NYC has more than 4 (I assume by 4, you meant the 2 Mohawks, 999, and 6721).The Pennsy still wins the argument, though, since if we include those that ended up on other roads (looking at you, Frisco 4018 and--I shit you not--1630), subsidiaries and predecessors, there around 22 total to the NYC's ~14.
      For reference, in addition to my assumed 4:
      ATSF 2522 (nee-NYC 2976 class G-6k, to KCM&O #66 in 1927, to ATSF 2522 in 1928), on display in Fairview, OK.
      ex-NYC 5780 class G-43a, permanently stranded in the woods near Chamberlain Lake, Maine.
      NYC 6894 class B-10w (nee-Michigan Central 8794) on the Whitewater Valley RR in Connersville, IN.
      That's not including 5 from subsidiary roads that were never numbered into the NYC roster, one of which is the OTHER engine stuck in the Maine Woods (ex-IHB 15).

    And also in 5484s defense, the goofy spokeless drivers don't look that bad. Just makes them look completely out of place from almost every other steam locomotive that existed in the US at the time. Which in my opinion makes it cool interesting and unique. 17:11 hey look it’s my whistle asset (shameless self promo ☠️)
    Anyways here’s some facts for some PRR classes:
    1. There were plans for another subclass after the M1b but were shelved cause of the influx of diesels being purchased.
    2. The reason why these engines were removed from passenger service is actually explained! I don’t know the full answer myself but one reason why is because their massive side rods and cylinders coupled with the 72inch drivers made the Pullmans have, to quote complaints towards the Passenger Department from angry passengers, “a rather bumpy ride.”
    3. There were plans for both an oil fired _and_ a water tubed firebox variant of the M1. Much like L1s 2861.
    4. Before the 40s, top speeds for the I1s’ were 30 mph whilst its N1s/N2sa behemoth cousins were rated for 40. This was changed later on when the I1s’ were rebuilt to I1sa’s.
    5. H5s (while not mentioned in this video thank god) literally only existed for helper service up the Altoona Slope until the 20s where they all died.
    6. Coast to coast tenders are a pain to do research on. No I’m dead serious. Some were riveted, others were welded. It’s confusing.
    7. *_FUTURA FONT ON THEIR STEAM FLEET IS A NIGHTMARE TO RESEARCH._*
    8. L1s 2861 (the weird water tubed firebox engine) was actually rebuilt by Baldwin. Not the B&O.
    I could go on and on but those are the major eight I want to get off my chest. Being a member of the PRRT&HS whilst researching obscure rail lines the PRR ran does this to ya kids.

    The wheelslip is somewhat overstated. Yes they were more prone to it than other designs but it wasn't nearly as bad as people seem to want to think.
    Also there's not a small amount of anecdotal evidence regarding the S1's speed record. Plenty of it hitting 130 and the crew getting ticketed for hitting ~150 AVERAGE speed. Yeah, AVERAGE.

    G5S IN S TIER LETS GOOOOOO

  • @VietTheKong
    @VietTheKong 2 месяца назад

    HOT TAKE:
    But imo I think the Q1 is one of the most visually pleasing large steam locomotive the PRR made (based on aesthetics and body design)...I think the streamlined roof design flush with the tender panels. Kinda like the S series locomotives and the T1's...
    I feel like the large gap from the top of the cab roof to the top of the tender in locomotives like the J1, M1, and Q2 just don't sit right with me. I understand those are freight locomotives vs the streamlined style of passenger locomotives (like the T1 and S1) but it was just a weird niche design that I could never unsee.
    If you ignore the biggest issue of the backwards duplex drive, The Q1 design looks strong, powerful and sleek and the streamlining is flush from the top of the cab to the top of coal bunker of the tender. If the PRR bit the bullet and designed a 4-8-4 locomotive it should look more like this vs let’s say a longer M1 or something. Just my opinion…

    • @GMan9029
      @GMan9029  2 месяца назад +1

      I honestly just can’t get over the backwards set of drivers, it’s too weird looking. Plus imo the semi streamlined look of the Q2 is just better.
