    Zip Line Gold Mining: Buckets Of Ancient River Bed Material Quickly Drops To The Highbanker Below
    My buddy and I found some bench gravel 40 to 50 feet up the mountain from the river. We could see where some of the old miners tunneled into the side of the mountain to chase the placer gold.
    What we saw was a pretty remarkable site. Rocks the size of small cars, just hanging in suspension in the hard pack ancient streambed.
    It's always good to find virgin ground for prospecting. The old miners obviously dug tunnels to chase the placer, but it's really cool to see that untouched stream bed. We had a great time and look forward to returning.
    This area belongs to a lifelong friend of mine, who has not only the private property to this land, but a patented mining claim without expiration. We are forever grateful for him.
    We figured the best way to get the "buckets of gold" down the mountain and across the river was a zip line. Brilliant idea, (my friends, not mine). Worked incredibly well.
    Twenty First Century bucket line mining.
    Thanks for watching ☺

    Thanks for the comments Reed! For those of you that don't know, Reed Lukens is a dredging legend! He was the first with so many ideas, that helped so many other miners work smarter not harder. Can't thank you enough Reed, for all the information you've provided myself and the community over the years!

    Always good to share ideas with fellow miners... We've received so much valuable information from so many people; the ingenuity starts to wear off on you a bit. We love it. Thanks for the comments :)

    Nice... yea, you can build your own sluice pretty cheap; doesn't have to be anything fancy. Cut a square piece of rigid plastic, put some matting or carpet on the bottom, set it in the stream, classify then feed it. Have a great time!

    Good idea, I paint bridges and do all kinds of rigging. The two bucket thing isnt a bad idea all you need is two snatchblocks or pulleys and two ropes, tie the rope together making a loop leaving a tail on each end and that is where you attach the buckets. You could tighten the rope a little and gravity would do all the work. The guy on the lower end could control the speed buy using friction on the rope going up, probably better since he is catching it. I have been rigging for 22 yrs.

    Hi Chad, as a rule of thumb, start prospecting where gold has been found before. There are several areas around the country that were heavily mined in the late 1800's and again in the 1930's. These areas still produce pretty well. This spot was on top of a granite bench above the river, we just followed in the footsteps of the old Chinese miners of the 1800's. Take care.

    After this vid was shot, I made a four foot slick plate, and attached the header box to the top before it entered the first of two sluices. In essence, its now a 12' sluice. I like the "slick plate" as Reed had suggested, and like how the material makes a nice "slurry" before the riffle action. The benefit of the two sluices is watching the flow over each. I like the first one to have a bit more slope than the second one, allowing me to watch all of the riffles in action. Thanks for watching

    Great video awesome day out it reminds me when I was little had a zip line down to the sluice box retrieval was by hand line . What you should do is have two zip lines about 3 feet apart and a pulley fixed at the digging side in between with a rope attached to both buckets . As the weighted bucket goes down it pulls the empty bucket up and perhaps have more buckets that can be unattached from the zip line so you can fill them at the digging face then if your genius enough you could have the buckets automatically dump in the hopper like the Aussie miners do at Cooper Pedy then both of you could work at digging and loading buckets you would get a lot more yardage through .

    Hi There.Try putting your concentrates in a gass jar under the tap.Run the tap.The concentrates flow over the top of the jar and the yella stays behind.Very easy way to seperate.Dont run the water to fast.This way you dont have to mess around panning in the creek so much.Cheers

    You know also, you could flood that hole with water from one pump and then suck it out with a BOOM Box set up. I would put a 4" suction nozzle in the hole and then fill the hole and continue to wash the material into the nozzle at the same time with P180. You can use a highline to easily move everything across the river. This time of year with the brown water already flowing from the floods, the water that you will be putting back into the stream is not going to be any worse than it is already.

    Get another bucket to dump into inside that pit instead of shoveling into the tied-up bucket. You could Move a lot more material at a faster pace instead of one shovel at a time in and out of the pit

  • @brandonfrancey5592
    @brandonfrancey5592 11 лет назад

    Not bad for mucking about but so many inefficiencies. Have another bucket with you where you are digging. When full, take that to your zip line bucket and dump it in. I like the suggestion of 2 zip lines where the full bucket going down pulls the empty one back up but if you only want 1 line, take the top half of your fishing pole off. A long pole doesn't help any and just hits trees and gets in the way. Another bucket to catch tailings would help clear them easier too.

  • @NewportStudio
    @NewportStudio  12 лет назад

    Yea, Reed's going to bring up a bunch of tannerite so we can divert the river as it is now, back into this mountain, and then we can dredge it all up. "In this state" were the words you chose. Not sure if you meant Kalifornication in general, or your state of mind… but seriously; its ok, you can take it down a notch with the upper case period.

  • @NewportStudio
    @NewportStudio  11 лет назад

    Hahaa Thanks gercolt... since the dredging season hadn't opened yet, we had to do something to alleviate the gold fever; this works. Heck, even a 1 pounder would do

  • @NewportStudio
    @NewportStudio  11 лет назад

    Its about a half a mile hike just to get back there; of course very close on the sluice side, but the pole is the most effective for this project. Need a hard hat after you start giving the rocks above your head names such as, "widow maker", "dagger", etc...

    Great movie my friend 8°) I haven't done any high-lining in years and it sure was nice to see you guys are doing well over there. Nice operation and I do like your double sluice set up the way that it is. The only thing is that as you know, all of that turbidity and those air bubbles in the water with the highbankers from what I have seen, an almost level slick plate in the front for a few feet really makes a difference in the amount of gold recovered. It's past time for some dynamite 8°)

    You could of put up one pully on one side and another on the other bank then when the full bucket is sent the empty would return up to be refilled! That would also speed up the amount of dirt moved i have done it this way b4 but with the use of 4 buckets that way the person feeding never runs out of dirt! Also the buckets are tied in a set spot so one bucket is on one side every time!

  • @NewportStudio

    This is a fun little vid to watch. I can see you have some experience.
    You just might hit a pocket in that rathole diggins up on the bank, but otherwise, it's an awful lot of labor for what you might get.
    Consider the 'prudent man' criteria after you have done some test runs.
    ...and that little hole is Very treacherous!
    Glad you had fun with your fishing rod.
    Step up to a powered capstan winch if you must play with that zipline.
    A corrugated metal chute would be superior.
    and Good Luck to you!

    Personally if i was staying there a week or two i would use jcadult101's 2lines, 2buckets idea & store the pay dirty to run at a later time. That sluice box is running 24/7. Also there are places you can go to have your fine sand assorted instead of panning it and possibly losing some. Its worth the head ache.
