I met Paul, Alex, and Corpsegrinder at a CC show once, they talked to us for nearly 2 hours outside the venue after the show till like 1am, and answered all of our questions. He's not just a musician, but a real fan of his peers. Not an arrogant bone in his body, and I respect that so much.
The best thing about Cannibal is that their newer albums are just as good as their older albums. There’s definitely been a change in style and sound over the years - as you’d expect in a band spanning 30+ years - but each album is just as enjoyable. From the classic Barnes era, to Kill, to Evisceration Plague, to Skeletal Domain. I love all those albums. You could say any of their albums are your favourite, and no one would argue with you, because they’d get that that particular album speaks to you, and is good enough to be someone’s favourite. And that can’t be said about many bands.
Great interview! Funny how he thought Metallica was too extreme at the time. I felt the same way about Cannibal Corpse for little while. But I was totally enthralled by Altars of Madness and blasting that tape in the car with my friends was a great memory from high school. But that too was 'too edgy' for me lyrically, especially since my mom was on my case after finding my Obituary and Malevolent Creation tapes. I blacked out all the lyrics of the AOM cassette with a Sharpie out of fear of her finding it. Heh! Time gives you a different perspective on these things. But at the end of the day you can't beat a good string of chugs and cymbal mutes, it appeals to the caveman metalhead inside.
Paul is a living legend. He is an example to all young or older musicians that are afraid to touch the drums. You don't need to be Lombardo to play metal. You just need passion and love for the music.
Bobby Brown Paul has a unique style. He may not be some Uber technician but his grooves are killer and really gave cannibal an interesting layer in their style. Cannibal is a meat and potato’s band and Paul is a meat and potato’s drummer. I love his style personally but your right he is mediocre in terms of technique. Been a fan since the early 90s. Opened a few local shows for them in the late 90s/early 2000s, and was fortunate enough for my band to be offered a supporting slot on the 1349/Skeletonwitch tour. 100% pro EVERY night. Very down to Earth people who love their fans immensely, and are very hospitable to their support acts. Sitting in the back lounge of the bus with Paul while he told stories of the old days of Cannibal will always be with me. Their professionalism, unwavering love for their fans, and sticking to their guns is a great blueprint for a successful band. Love these guys. Paul, Alex, and Rob especially. Legends for a reason. I'll tell my grandkids those tour stories one day.
So many memories he brought up about Buffalo! My original hometown. We moved to Akron New York, Jack Lived down the street from me! We hung out many of times, I was younger and just starting to play guitar! One great memory was having all of Beyond Death pull up in a van and I went to House of Guitars in Rochester! I’ll always remember Alex walking through school with his Metallica Ride the Lightning patch on his jacket, these were some of the coolest guys! They’re all so humble.

Everyone in Buffalo was awaiting the release of that album like the second coming of Christ. Bought it the day it came out at a now-defunct Buffalo record store, Home of the Hits. Got my cassette copy, paid for it and just as I was about to leave, Alex and Jack Owen sauntered into the place. I already knew them, esp Alex because we both hung out at Buffalo State College just up the street. I have fond memories of life back during the Tomb Of The Mutilated era. I was broke and starving but my band DETEST was having fun (there was even some pretty women from time to time.) Cannibal Corpse has always been a reliable constant for me and I truly appreciate everything they've done.
I've been sort of a fringe fan for quite a few years and finally saw them a couple of months ago. They opened with Code of the Slashers and it was fucking awesome.
Very articulate guy with thoughtful and insightful answers to good and fresh questions. Another job well done Mr. Bradley. "The bleeding" was my introduction into Cannibal and one of the first death metal albums I ever heard starting my journey into extreme side of metal (I was into Metallica, GNR and Scorpions at the time).
The production on the prior 3 albums was bigger and more enjoyable than the bleeding IMO. The drum sound is kind of thin on it. Production aside..... there are some great fucking songs on the bleeding though.
Pauls such a fkn cool dude, its beautiful how much he remembers and hearing him talk about bands first albums and the evolution of Metal, amazing interview!
Yoooo red before black is a pretty fucking solid CC release. Went under the radar a bit. I love that album a lot. Cant wait to see these guys again soon.
I am an enormous fan of CC and accidentally a guitarist of *MORTEM* (called "the Russian Cannibal Corpse") and I never liked any album after "Wretched Spawn", BUT "Red Before Black" just blew me away! As Paul said, the songwriting there is crazy good! Absolutely fantastic record!
If anything? Next to Chuck Schuldiner, and John Tardy,Glen Benton,Brent Hoffman(r.i.p.), cannibal corpse blazed the trail for a thousand up & comers... They are the true godfathers of a genre. And they continue to put out good music to this day (not the same malevolent creation doesn't hold its own even though they were changing members every other Fucking week), or even know that David Vincent is what he is, morbid Angel is still morbid Angel is. (but maybe a shadow of their former selves). Paul, I played in bands with Justin Depinto who was in malevolent for a while. I have a history with that guy that goes back 30 years man. I know you guys are from New York, but personally I have an association with the Florida death metal scene since I was a young guy and I'm almost 50. Keep doing what you do Paul. We need you guys. It's kind of similar to the way.. let me give you a hypothetical deal..."Charlie Watts says the rolling Stones are done forever".... He would be absolutely right because it's his band. You run the show Paul you know it. Just keep your friendships solid with your bandmates it is a vital importance to keep you on the scene so cannibal never disappears until you guys die. I want you guys to be the rolling Stones of death metal. And I think that if there's anybody to fit that category it is you guys.. I can imagine you guys as 70 year old guys, still doing what you do. Until death do you part. Keep Cannibel alive forever..... Until you are physically unable to sit behind a kit......but even though through all the music and all the things you guys have done I know that every single one of you are"ordinary men". You just happened to have really cool jobs. Today was Ozzy's last album man we all know it's a last. I want to be able to do that 20 years from now for you guys.Ride that shit untill the wheels fall the fuck off.... Stick with it until your body's give out and your heart stops beating. Then I will have respect for y'all and my respect is already through the roof 💯.

I have fond memories of life back during the Tomb Of The Mutilated era. I was broke and starving but my band DETEST was having fun (there was even some pretty women from time to time.) Cannibal Corpse has always been a reliable constant for me and I truly appreciate everything they've done.
Cannibal Corpse are already death metal icons without a doubt 😎
This is the most happy I’ve been to see an interview. It’s not often someone from Buffalo gets a lot of attention
Damn what a great interview 🤘
I love Paul, such a stand-up guy - They all are
Seen these guys over 15 times. Still one of my all time favorites.
I've been sort of a fringe fan for quite a few years and finally saw them a couple of months ago. They opened with Code of the Slashers and it was fucking awesome.
My fav band of all! Long live the Corpse! \mm/
Hey Brad, I’m so fucking happy YOURE doing this interview.
Good interview, wish it was longer. Paul is a great guy, cool to hear him talk about metal and Cannibal Corpse
Great interview - I love the passion!
BUTCHERED AT BIRTH is still their best album.
Cool seeing him. I jammed just across the gravel driveway from Corpse on Himes Ave. in Tampa.
I've been listening to this band since middle school and I'm on 43 years old
Always nice to listen to Paul talk about the origins of death metal. The guy is a legend
My favorite death metal band. Keep it up,
The Bleeding is still my fave.
Jeremy Boehm same dude! Such a distinctive sound!
@@ozrant1352 Chris Barnes growls and their guitar tone was just killer. I don't hate Corpsegrinder but Barnes on the Bleeding is the man.
Drums sound weak in this album... The only bad part of the bleeding
Mine too i just hate that chris barnes left afterwards.
The production on the prior 3 albums was bigger and more enjoyable than the bleeding IMO. The drum sound is kind of thin on it.
Production aside..... there are some great fucking songs on the bleeding though.
I met the guys back in 2005 they are great guys and Paul is a great drummer
Pauls such a fkn cool dude, its beautiful how much he remembers and hearing him talk about bands first albums and the evolution of Metal, amazing interview!
Paul truly makes this an interesting and lively interview!
My favorite band!!!! Long live Cannibal Corpse!!!
Great band. Enjoy their albums a lot. Looking forward to a new album. Any word on Pat?
Needa to be longer 😭 Such a nice dude
Hails guys. Thanks for the interview. Really appreciated. Long Live Cannibal Corpse.
Yoooo red before black is a pretty fucking solid CC release. Went under the radar a bit. I love that album a lot. Cant wait to see these guys again soon.
It's a sick heavy album love it too
Paul just looks like the nicest guy ever, I love this man.
I’ll always have a place in my heart for Cannibal Corpse❗️🤘🏽🖤😇
I am an enormous fan of CC and accidentally a guitarist of *MORTEM* (called "the Russian Cannibal Corpse") and I never liked any album after "Wretched Spawn", BUT "Red Before Black" just blew me away! As Paul said, the songwriting there is crazy good! Absolutely fantastic record!
CC is the band with the most beautiful and friendly guys. You just have to love them.
New album is called “The Crypt”??? I love it!
Crypt of the devil? :D
Tucker Finch THE CRYPT STEERNNNCHHHH
@Ali Desch yeah...sfu last four albums are very good. They want to bring out a new this year with jack owen...
frank hartm Chris says he’s only as good as the musicians he works with. Explains a lot
