    I used a spud wrench at work in order to loosen the nut located on the right side of the toilet, in an attempt to replace the vaccum breaker. Unfortunately, I somehow caused a leak from where the nut is and ended up having to turn the water off. It required a lot of force loosening that nut. Did that end up damaging it? Also, would Teflon tape help with fixing it? Thanks.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. Teflon tape can be used on the brass nut that connects to the control valve threads.

    • @SatanEatsJesus
      @SatanEatsJesus 4 месяца назад

      @AmreSupply just a heads up, sloan very specifically states in their pamphlets that you are to NOT use any sort of thread sealant on any of the couplings. That includes Teflon tape, and the control stop coupling. If it leaks without Teflon, there is something wrong and should be addressed or replaced.

    My water closet says Royal on top of the pipe. I replaced the vacuum breaker with a Sloan V-651-A kit since it says for use with "Sloan Royal, Regal, Crown and similar style flushometers." When I pulled out the old breaker it looks exactly like the model labelled "Regal
    V-551-A breaker. The new one seems to be working fine since there are no more leaks. My question is if it's okay to use the V651 or do I need to get the V-551?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Often what happens is that a company will make a new part compatible with older models but give it a new part number. The part in question is nearly identical and will perform the same. The only difference is in number. If the part says it's compatible, and it fits well and there are no leaks, then you're good to go.

    What should I do if water keeps leaking out of the nut where the vacuum breaker seals?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  4 года назад +1

      Hi Ricardo, thank you for watching. Overall its best to take it out the vacuum breaker, and check to see that the rubber isn't deteriorated. When installing it you'll want the vacuum breaker to make even contact and the washer should be aligned evenly as well.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching we're glad you found it helpful. Good question: The vacuum breaker prevents water from the toilet from being siphoned back into the flushometer. This prevents contamination of the drinking water, if there is a drop of pressure in the water line.

  • @ThatGuyFromThatOneApp

    Thanks for the video, the problem I'm having is that when I turn the water back on it starts spilling from the little slits/holes on the neck under the coupling. What can I do?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching, we're just happy to help. There's a few things you can check: Make sure that the washer is seated properly on the vacuum breaker. As well check the threads for any corrosion or a mineral buildup. You might need to clean the threads to make a good seal. As well if the vacuum breaker is worn out then the rubber can stick and the water will not drain properly.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  4 года назад +3

      Thank you for watching, we're glad you liked the video! When installing it you'll want the vacuum breaker to make even contact with the flush pipe and the washer should be aligned evenly as well. As well check to see if the pipe itself is worn, rusted and pitted. This can prevent the vacuum breaker from making a good seal. If there is a buildup of calcium or minerals than use an acid based cleaner or vinegar to dissolve the minerals before reinstalling the vacuum breaker.

    Thanks for the helpful video. My newish (installed January 2020) 1.6 Gerber toilet with a Sloan Royal flushometer (new diaphragm) has stopped flushing reliably. 10 days ago the original plumber augured it, found a blockage and declared it fixed. Yesterday same symptom--multiple flushes, sometimes paper fails to flush. This time building engineer said the problem was that the flush was insufficient. If there were a clog, material would come up when flush operated. He says the vacuum breaker needs replacing. What do you think?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching. if the flushometer is pretty new, with a properly seated diaphragm, then that part of the flush should be working properly. First open the control stop to make sure its not restricting the flow. Also check to make sure that the handle is actually pressing down all the way.
      If the flow seems restricted or the volume of water coming out of the flushometer seems low, the vaccum breaker could be the problem but its hard to exactly know. If you have other flushometers on the same water line, and if those have a full flush volume, then that means your water supply is good and the problem is with the flushometer.

    Hello, I have a urinal that won't stop running. I've replaced the diaphragm assembly but once I open the control stop it just continues to run. Is it possible the vacuum breaker is the culprit?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching. Depending on the age of the flushometer it is more likely that there is some corrosion inside of the valve. Something that might interfere with how the diaphragm sits on the valve, or how the relief valve is positioned. It's worth opening up and checking the those components. If there is any corrosion or a buildup of minerals then you can use some sort of an acid cleaner and a wire brush to remove it.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. If the new diaphram is leaking then it would be best to open it up and check the threads. Look for any corrosion, a buildup of calcium or any damage on the threads. This will prevent a good seal. If there is calcium on the threads then it can be cleaned with a wire brush and vinegar. As well check if the diaphram is seated properly and that the cap sits evenly on top. Then reinstall and see if it helps.

    I still can't figure out how the water gets from up top, through the rubber vacuum breaker, and into the toilet. It seems like it should create a watertight seal, but it somehow flushes. Much confuse.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  Год назад

      Thanks for watching. Based on how the vacuum breaker is designed, it is tapered and angles downward that it acts as simple a one way valve. When water is flowing from the top down in the the vacuum breaker, it will force the rubber to separate, letting the water drain through it. Based on the shape it will prevent a vacuum from pulling water upwards into the valve.

    • @jordanhenshaw
      @jordanhenshaw Год назад

      @@AmreSupply Yes, if I had simply pushed my finger through it, I would have realized it has cuts inside it and it isn’t a solid, unbroken piece of rubber. I was only able to find one video that demonstrates that recognizes the common point of confusion, not on your channel.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching. The rubber in the vaccum breaker does deteriorate overtime and often sticks, which could restrict the flow. As well check that the handle is working well and fully pushing the relief valve. If the handle sticks or doesn't move enough then the relief valve might not open all the way.

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  4 года назад +1

      Hi Rachael, thank you for watching. First check that the vacuum breaker was seated properly and that the washer is centered. If that doesn't help then it could be an issue with the diaphragm. You can learn more here: ruclips.net/video/IhBA-AZBXGc/видео.html

    Would be nice to show how to fix a leaking new vacuum breaker

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching. If the vacuum breaker is leaking from the connection at the valve body then you'll want to check that the vacuum breaker is in position, the washer is seated properly and that the threads aren't damaged. Look for anything that might prevent a good seal or good connection. If there is a mineral buildup on the threads or on the face that the washer presses against, then that will need to be cleaned off using some sort of acid, like vinegar.

    • @JustinEmlay
      @JustinEmlay Год назад

      I second this. I've never had a problem replacing a vacuum breaker however all of a sudden now that our toilets are getting up there in age any time I replace a vacuum breaker it continues to leak not from the threads but from the open space under the threads, the holes all around the pipe.

      Thanks for watching. The rubber can break down over time so its hard to know if its just the washer or the vacuum breaker. It also depends on if there is a hard or soft water supply. How long are these lasting, from your experience?
