Doc Watson is an inspiration to me because he’s proof that you don’t need range to be a powerful or expressive singer. I’m honored to share a home state with him, my he Rest In Peace
My folks moved down from North Carolina to Georgia but brought the music with them. Everyone was given enough voice to express the soul inside them. God bless
I saw Mr. Watson do this song at one of his shows in North Wilkesboro back in the 70's. He did it with a local kid who had MS or some similar condition. When they were sitting it up to perform, I didn't expect a lot. The rest of the band stood back leaving just those two. When they were finished I doubt there was a dry eye in the place. And I know I'll never forget it.

Well... this is a hard one. Jack White's version, Doc Waton's version, they are amazing. Don't get me wrong, I love Johnny Cash, but... his version of Wayfaring Stranger is good, but not the best...
Bill Monroe didn't write this, this is a traditional folk song' Burl Ives' released his version 14 years before Bills in 1944 but before that and believed to be the first recording was ''The original sacred harp-wayfaring stranger in 1936'' 22years before Bill monroe. as i say 'recording' the earliest time the ''Lyrics'' was written down was 1911 in a church Hymm book .The year Bill monroe was born.

I wouldn't even call this a version of Wayfaring Stranger. It's a teaser to what is a beautiful song, or would be a beautiful song if he sang more than just a tiny fraction of it. Maybe it's just too much to remember more words to the song.
Man his voice..its like a warm blanket...so soothing...❤
My Daddy used to play this song, and hearing it brings the tears running down my face.
