I am a pilgrim picker, living about 7 miles from Deep Gap, Doc's home. And yes, even now, in 2025, we are, like Doc, waiting for times to get better. May God rest Doc's eternal soul and his hevenly pickin'.
Got turned on to Doc in 1969, and have never lost even the most minute bit of appreciation for how his voice could just plain old make you "feel good"! Very majestic and as peaceful as meditation. He was a gift to all who were fortunate enough to have him come into their life. Glad I'm one!!!
Took my daughter Jessica to the Memorial Doc Watson concert in Raleigh this past weekend. David Holt, Bryan Sutton, Barry Poss, Wayne Henderson (guitar maker...count Eric Clapton) and piano great Jeff Little played this song, one of my favorites...what a great evening to sit around, close up on the stage and listen to this stuff.
You need to go to a Bluegrass Festival and check out some camp site/parking lot pickin’. There will be people much younger than you tearing it up on their chosen instrument. This music isn’t for the masses but those who find it are lucky.
Saw Doc perform tonight. Still has it, and a great pair behind him in David Holt and T. Michael Coleman. Can still outpick anyone. He is the original and best.
Doc Watson was one cool cat. I watched a video of him building a wooden box and hammering nails while being interviewed at home. He was an amazing person. Rest in peace Doc, you won’t be forgotten.
oh yes .. i am ready for the times to get better . riots , covid , hurricanes and record rain here .. i am ready to see some sun and feel people unite instead of fight and love to prevail over all else . this world needs a miracle ♥
Lyrics : I've got to tell you I've been rackin' my brain I have to find a way out I've had enough of this continual rain A change is comin', no doubt (Chorus) It's been a too long time With no peace of mind And I'm ready for the times to get better A long lonely time With no peace of mind And I'm ready for the times to get better You try to take from me what I cannot give No happiness can I find I have a dream that I've been trying to live It's burning holes in my mind (Chorus)
If someone wants to play along: the song is in C#m, but to make it simple lets just put the capo on 4th fret and pretend its Am. Intro: [Am F G Am] 2x ------>same for the verse [C G Dm F Am E7 Am ]2x----->same for chorus
I just discovered this song and It touched my soul deep. I guess he is the original. I wish I could record it back to back seamlessly to make it last longer.
I met Doc,Miss Rosalee, and Michael at Wingate College Wingate NC. I had spent the entire day collecting collecting all the sound equipment for the performance that night. A lady came in to auditorium and asked if this was where the performance was scheduled for the DocWatson. About that time Doc and Michael entered the auditorium carrying a guitar cases. This was the start of a night I cherish to this day. After getting all Doc’s equipment set up on stage I started to adjust the stage lighting. Miss Rosalee told Doc that I was going to give him a light show.
PrettyRubbish I am still breathing but the pressure is crushing. Wife and kids are my joy and nothing on earth will ever cause me to stop pushing back.

Very apt considering what's happening in the world at present. Thank you Mr Watson you lifted me up.
A year later and I feel the same, who cannot love the doc. It's been 50 years and I put my guitar down and just listen to the master
This song expresses exactly how I feel today. I'm glad that I found it, it cheered me up.

Doc Watson was a huge influence on the great Billy Strings
He was my friend though I never met him, and like my guitar that I did meet, neither ever left me alone nor ever will.
