  • Montauk inshore action in the fall is amazing and an awesome destination
for fly and light tackle angler.
It's the time of the year when striped bass, bluefish and false albacore all converge to feast on massive amounts of bait fish as they exit our bays on their southerly migration.
But if there is one fish that most northeast fly anglers obsess over, it has to be the false albacore or albie as we lovingly call them.
When hooked, these powerful speed demons will get you into your backing before you can realize what happened.
That is of course, if your line clears the guides without an incident, often knots and tangles will cost you a fish during the chaos that occurs when you have albies busting on top and you rush to make a cast.
Watch this video for some awesome eats and top water false albacore action.

Great video! Thank you for sharing. I will be on my quest for my first albie period, but I will be using my 9 weight fly rod. Can't wait! This video has me pumped!
Just one question, a 1:50 there abouts, you make a back cast. Many good fly fisherman opt for this rather than being ambidextrous and casting with your left hand. Is there any particular reason you are mot casting with your left hand? For me, I found it to be a necessity fishing for mountain trout. Isn't it pretty much a necessity on a boat to be ambidextrous?

What weight rod and what line is used? Floating, Mid or full sinking

Hello, we use 8-9wt fly rods and mostly intermediate line, but for the crease fly we prefer floating line. Cortland and Sci anglers are pretty good, but most of the makers are pretty good now a days. Tight lines!

What lb line/leader were you using?

Early season I go lighter and heavier as they become more aggressive, so I'll start with 15lbs and go to 20lb, normally
