I’ve just bought a Scout Folding Tricycle 2nd hand after watching this and I’m going to give it a go. I’ve got real mobility issues and can only walk a few metres, so hopefully I will be able to go cycling with my 11 year old daughter. I would have loved another video showing how you connected everything up, including the battery. If I have any problems (I’m an ex teacher, not mechanic) I’m giving you another shout.

Love this - thank you! I'm very amateur (welding, mechanics etc), but going to have a crack anyway for my Son's trike, that he uses to drag his mate and their fishing gear down to the river. I modified his to have a decent loading platform instead of the basket. An 1800w motor I'm looking at should do nicely 😅. Thanks again!👌

Seems like he’s running a 12V system with standard car battery. You can pick up a 2nd hand good battery for less than £20, look around on FB marketplace ok just message one of the guys doing scrap runs. Often they pick up vehicles that are going scrap but still have decent or even new battery in them. And then charging such system is easy as well

The best thing about electric bikes are the ability to use electric tool battery to run them... That 36v? A Ryobi 40v lawnmower battery can get a few smiles out of. While that 48v might use the e-Go 56v platform. Bases with 10g wire leads can be found off eBay or have them printed up from 3d printer. Robotics have been useing them in kids project everywhere.

I currently own 36volt electric wheel kit That’s rated at 350watts but the controller is rated at 7amps continuous making the motor output 252watts but a Peake of 15 amps making it 540watts.i agree it shouldn’t be about Watts but about speed that you travel.

That MY1020 500 watt motor is 24 volts at about 2500 rpm at about 15 MPH (24KPH) , well it can handle 36 volts which makes it 1000 watts at 3750 rpm which will bring you to the maximum legal 20 MPH (32KPH). You only made one ERROR, you forgot the freewheel ($10) for the motor gear on the axle. Without it you will be peddling while dragging the motor which makes it harder to pedal and the motor is now a generator. A 36 volt motor controller is about the same price but if the one you have has 50 volt capacitors you can use that one if not change the capacitors to 50 volt same capacity or just buy another controller. CHEERS.

Less than £300 quid if you are very lucky to find a super cheap motor and super cheap controller/throttle. and if batteries are free. A 1000W bike is not legal on the british roads at any speed. The speed you refer to is for throttle only on a bike which is normally pedelec. The maximum legal motor power (that is rated power, not peak) is 250W. Your motor looks like it's rated 1000W so could probably handle peak power of double that. You have an electric moped, which must conform to the construction and use regs, be insured, you need a licence, helmet etc. I would prefer to live in your world but unfortunately we have to live in the regulatory framework we have or campaign to change it. Please - I hope nobody gets nicked for following your advice.
