- Did we return to normal life in Urban Germany? This walking tour in Dusseldorf Germany offers a great way to enjoy Dusseldorf city's beautiful ambience in the urban Benrath district on a sunny summer day in June 2020 after the reopening of some businesses in end of April 2020.
Benrath is a part of Düsseldorf in the south of the city. It has been a part of Düsseldorf since 1929. The name Benrath came from the "Knights of Benrode". The settlement was mentioned for the first time in 1222 in a document from Cologne where Everhard de Benrode is named as an attestor. By the end of the fifth century the area is known as "Rode" or "Roide", which is a cleared area. The Schloss Benrath (Benrath Castle) is one of the greatest baroque castles in Germany. The castle contains a museum. The park of the castle is very famous, too. The first church of Benrath was constructed in 1002. In the time of Industrial Revolution Benrath grew very fast, because Benrath it next to the important Cologne-Duisburg railway. In 1929 Benrath became a part of Düsseldorf.
I am starting this urban city walking tour close to the end of the city center, then taking a quick stroll through the shopping street back to the beginning. On my way you will see St. Cäcilia church. In the end I am walking around the Urdenbacher Allee station.

So eine schöne Einkaufastraße mit hübschen Häusern und Geschäften.
Mit "Rode" enden viele Ortsnamen in Mitteldeutschland...eine Gegend, die ich auf Grund von Mittelgebirge, viel Fachwerk und Burgen sehr liebe...
@Instagram zeki_1804 Benrath rieß einst Benrode. Das nahe gelegene Erkrath hieß beispielsweise auch einmal Erkerode. Die Namen gehen zurück auf Rodungen in den einst dicht bewaldeten Gebieten.
@Instagram zeki_1804 Ein bekannter Ort im Harz ist z.B. Werningerode.
Viel Fachwerk und Burgen... eins davon wird’s bald geben! :)
