- In this Ahrweiler City tour in Germany, I am walking you through the historical old town of Ahrweiler during the worldwide pandemic in June 2020 and cover a few beautiful places within the city. Ahrweiler is located in Rhineland Palatinate and the centre of the Ahr valley. The romantic half-timbered houses in the centre of Ahrweiler are surrounded by the medieval town walls, which are still entirely preserved.

Celts, Teutons, ancient Romans, Lords, Archbishops and the French settled one after the other in Ahrweiler. The medieval town walls with their moat, gates and towers built in the 13th century are still almost entirely preserved. The old town centre is a car-free zone, which offers you the opportunity of a relaxed walk around the picturesque sleepy half-timbered houses. The „Wolffsche Haus“, a half-timbered house built in 1621 with its highly ornamented bay window in particular is worth seeing, as well as the courtyard „Blankartshof“ built in 1680. The market square is characterized by Saint Laurentius (from 1269) - the first Hall Church in the Rhineland from the early Gothic period, as well as the antique town hall (Late Rococo, 1778).
I am starting this tour at the Ahrtor (Main Gate) then walking through the old town until I reach St. Laurentius Church and then heading to the White Tower before finishing at the Am Weiherberg Street, where you can see vineyards.

As someone who has spent his life there, it can get a bit monotonous in the long run but yes, our old town is worth a visit.

If you had told the residents in 2020 that the Ahr, 1 year and less than a month later, would become a raging river and there would be terrible devastation and almost 200 deaths, I think they would have been laughed at. 😥

Thanks, I'm fine. but most people not, you see the Ahrtor at 0:19 the water stand over the opening were you can go in. in our school over 3 meters hiegh. I don't have a Probleme with water becourse I live on the hill.
