Plastic drop-ins hold water underneath them and will rot your bed out over time. The factory and aftermarket spray-ins leave the factory drains accessible, so your bed should never be filled with water unless your drains are clogged.
WeekendWarriors I second plastic drop in. they are a second layer of protection from heavy items plus the channel of water so your stuff doesn't sit in water
I’m a ford regional accessories manager and the reason we don’t spray behind the bolts is because you can’t.When you do you create what we call a soft joint avoiding your ability to get your bolts torqued to the proper engineered specs causing you to void your warranty with Ford. Good job linex!! Oh and our bed liners can be fixed we have shops set up around the Country to take care of any of our repairs. So yeah go with Linex and Void your warranty!!
So to recap, what you're really paying for here is the attention to detail and patience in prep work. I would do some serious vetting of the dudes I trusted my brand new paint job to. They had better have done hundreds of installations with ZERO failures. There's no question the Line-X liner is quality. It's the quality of the installation that counts.
I'm sold on Line X now over the factory Ford liner. You have to give Tools in Action props for letting them rip the liner out of his tail gate. Great video!
I have a 2004 Tacoma that I bought new and put a Line X bed liner after a couple of months. It is still going strong with zero problems after all these years. Can't say enough about Line- X
Thanks for the field trip Dan... I am so glad that I have the Line-X liner in my 2015 F150 as well. What sold me on it was when a friend of mine was showing me where had accidently dropped an engine in his truck bed. The bed dented, but the Line-X liner held up with no tearing or chipping. I was definitely impressed. This is a great and informative video!
I had Line X do a Radio Flyer wagon back around '99 or so. I used it in junkyards for 15 years, loading it up with heavy, sharp car parts and tools. Great product.
My dealer had the spray liner done to my 2018 super duty. Chunks came off on their own as it was paper thin. They redid it plus gave me a Ford factory bed liner installed over the spray on.
Linex ROCKS. I had my F150 done by Linex in Des Moines (americantoppers.com) and they did an outstanding job. If anyone out there is in the Des Moines area and looking to get a spray in bedliner, you need to come see these guys. They won't disappoint you. Will definitely see them again for my next truck!
I have the 2016 factory liner and it's held up very well. Unfortunately, I see this as a solution looking for a problem. The factory liner could be improved upon regarding lashing points but for the vast majority of today's population, it does quite well as is.
You are probably right, but either way the linex will be more difficult upon removal simply because the prep work is more extensive for linex than factory.
I've used Rino-Guard and Arma-Guard in the past but the glossy finish my Linex guy uses is by far the best. It's been on my aluminum Herd truck bumper for 11 years and looks every bit as good as the first day it was put on. That gloss lets the bugs wash away nice n easy!
Awesome video! I have had several buddies go to Ben and his guys, nothing but good things to say. Their quality is awesome and the edges are crisp. When I finally pull the trigger on a new truck this is my first stop.
My. 17 f150 developed this rattles at 8400 miles but I was abled to remedy the issues by following the instruction from some of the videos on here with lithium grease.
Just bought a brand new Ford F150 and it had no bed liner, i asked the dealer to add a bed liner and i wanted a Ford factory bed liner - the Ford dealer refused and told me they’d fit a LineX liner because they are superior. I said okay, i dont mind. Very happy now I’ve seen this video.
Fantastic video Dan, was really interesting to see the process of removal and application, man that stuff is tough and blows the Ford factory stuff out of the water and they really care about the quality of their product! Thanks Dan! #TIACREW
I prefer the Ford liner. I have it in mine and it is extremely durable. The only con is that the bottom of the tailgate is not sprayed. I paid almost 60k for a truck and don't want my bed sanded and scraped like you guys at line-x do it. Once done it is worthless would I ever want it painted again. The Ford one on the other hand can be removed and will look like new.
Northern Utah Dashcam think about it though, if they sand it down to promote adhesion, and spray line-x over it, you will never see the sanded material. It's not like they are putting dents in it. I love my line-x, had it done the day I got my truck, gouged it with a fork lift and they resprayed it all. still holding up 13 years later.
Northern Utah Dashcam my Ford one is good except the tailgate. They don't go down the edge of the tailgate between the back of the tailgate and the box. Dragging crates out of the box catches on the edge of the bed liner on the tailgate and lifted the edges. Totally unnecessary if they used $5 worth of more material.
That was the main reason for me as well. If anything, you can spray the unpainted strip with DIY spray-on bedliner and be done with it. It will last forever.
despite the factory bed liner coming off easy, i would like to see an actual test of durability between the. dropping some things from and average hight into the bed. like an average work day nothing stupid.
Ford offers a "one-stop", convenient, easy bed liner for their customers who want an ok bed liner from the factory. People who want/need a premium bed liner product, should go with the Line X. It's an unsurprising apples to oranges result.
After reading the comments apparently people don’t understand that any paint (not just bed liners) have to be applied to a scuffed surface to adhere properly. If not the paint or spray in liner will come off easy as you saw with the factory bed liner. And who cares if the paint in your bed is scuffed if it’s getting recovered?
so the reason they spray over the hardware is because, putting spray between the mounting bolts creates a soft joint to where you don't get a properly torqued bolt. FYI they do have a repair kit. plus if line-x has to dog a product to make theirs look better is it really better. ford is sprayed with a robot now and is more evenly sprayed. but hey if Line-x want to play this game go a head and buy from them. [ oh and if it has a line-x in it you void the warranty if the bed shifts and messes up wiring. but hey good luck with that.]
I don't own a Ford, so don't know about their liners. I do have a Line-X spray in liner that was done in 2006. It still looks new. I had them spray the bed rails when it was done and that fades some over the years. I just touch it up with Forever Black every 6 months and it looks new. It provides decent grip so loads don't slide, it has some noise deadening properties, and I don't need to worry about rust or it cracking like a drop in liner. To each their own.
U guys dnt have a stand for the tailgate I'm glad I seen this so I kno not were to get my truck done and it looked like u only did 1 coat I'd say it needs 3
I still would rather have the ford liner. I mean I wouldn't want my brand new truck bed sanded down, but that's me, everyone has their opinions on products.
I disagree my 2015 F-150 Factory spray bed liner is fading, plus the factory miss area where the tie down area are at i try twice to get Ford to fix but claims were denied. I had line x on my last two truck and love it.
That's some strong stuff. I have heard how great it is for years. I always had drop in liners in my trucks. Not the best but it works. This infomercial was entertaining lol. Thanks TIA. #tiacrew
I have a plastic drop-in liner now and it looks like it’s actually rubbed through the paint in a couple spots. Is that very common?? I’m going to pull it out and replace it with Line-X.
I think the factory bedliner would of stuck better if they prepped it as you see in the video it was very shiny underneath. It's all in the prep any painter will tell you.
Fido Tru He did say that they use a adhesive promoter . It cuts down costs of applying the liner and allowes it to be sprayed directly over the factory clear . I am a painter and I use adhesive primer all the time for stubborn surfaces that would cost a ton more time and labor to take off .
"We have to spray a certain thickness according to corporate." Hmmmmm. Got a Line X installed and with very light use, just homeowner use, it tore in several spots. I was told it would be going on 1/8 of an inch thick, and it's nowhere near that thick. The issue is until you tear it, you'll never know. I imagine the shops save a pretty penny by putting it on somewhat thin.
Or it could just be the tech installing it. Corporate might have policies set in place where everything has to be completed to a certain spec, but if there isn’t any quality control after the tech installs it, then no corporate or supervisor would know if it is installed to specifications. The tech could have just half-assed it because he didn’t want to do it, was lazy, etc. I wouldn’t knock the company, just the location where you got it from
While the factory coating is nowhere near as good as the Line X you have to admit it adheres decently well considering they are putting it right over the factory gloss paint with no sanding.I guess if you wanted it to be reversible that would be good but how many people want to go grove lined to naked again anyway? The spray booth looks like a set from a bad scifi flick and the guy doing the spraying like a scifi villain lol
You say there isn’t any repair process for factory liners... that is false. I spray Ultimate Linings Xtreme Liners, who is the main distributor to Ford, Chevy, and Ram trucks for factory liners. We are an authorized shop, so if anyone needs a repair, they can come directly to my shop or any other authorized Ultimate dealer and get the bedliner repaired.. not sure what Line-X uses but we use Pure Polyurea which is the strongest out of polyurethane, hybrid polyurea, and pure polyurea.. another difference is I don’t pay any fees unlike LineX dealers... just my 2 sense..... hell of a shop though!
I'm thinking of getting an old 1970's pull behind camper. would linex work on the top to 1) keep water tight 2) help keep cooler 3) protect from hail or small tree branches
Just pointing this out, last year I had my 97 f150 sprayed with line x and the warranty is void due to pre existing rust in the bed. Just pointing that out.
+luke saylor yea the guy was upfront about it as he was checking out the bed and telling me the process they go through, I pretty much saw that coming but the people that owned the truck before be had a rubber mat in the bed which I believe contributed to the rust. They were also nice enough to pop some of the dents in the wheel wells out for me and so far no complaints on the liner.
no the factory bed liner is not junk all you have to do is take it in and get the truck rhinos where they didn't put any and all I can do is just over blow on top of the factory one and you're good to go
That's freakin awesome bro and u were brave to let them mess with the truck bro lol!! Those guys do a great job and when I get my new truck I will definitely look into putting Line-x on my bed! Thanks Bro!! T.I.A#1!!! #TIACREW
The first thing I slid into my 2 month old line-x bed, a bolt head ripped the liner. To line-x credit, it could have been fixed, but I no longer have that truck.
One thing that annoys me with the LineX application is they spray it where the tailgate rubber stop mounts on the bed, and where it contacts on the tailgate. These two added thicknesses make the tailgate require a good slam. It is not like this without a liner or with an OEM liner. It seems like they sell it as more surface area the better, but I think this could use a bit more attention to detail.
Line-x since 2002 Chevy 3500 4x4 dulley crew cab very hard working off road Nevada ranch tested truck and still going strong .Only regret should of done the entire truck from top to bottom .
I see that you re-use the factory box bolts, are you aware that the Ford service manual says that the box bolts and clips are single use meaning once they are removed they have to be tossed and be replaced with new.
Pilinchi1 Beware, you know bolts stretch when torqued right? That’s why you replace them as it’s the best way to make sure it’s on securely. Best way to keep it feeling factory.
*HOLY SHIT* I'm dead serious- engineer colors and metal flake (if desired) into the mix- and *fuck Plasti Dip*, spray the *ENTIRE VEHICLE* with this! No more rust or scratches, period. *Car or truck*, inside and out.
BS! I have Line-X in my Jeep. It has peeled off in large sections on its own. Also when they install Line-X they wire wheel the crap out of the paint to make it stick to the metal. The problem is the product doesn't stay stuck to the surface and water gets trapped under the Line-X causing the body to rust (if made of steel). I don't mind them trying to sell a product but when dishonest people like this knock other products with fake BS they need to be called out. The ford stock liner is better in my opinion because the factory didn't destroy the paint to make the liner stick. This means when it does fail and traps water the metal is still protected by the paint.
I'm honestly surprised they (Line-X) didn't scuff the bed of that truck better. There was a lot of shiny spots left on that bed before they started spraying. and they sprayed both side of the tailgate latch mechanism.
So he says "Protect the Paint" you mean like underneath the bed liner? at that point why do I even care about the paint at all? Is not like it shows or I can remove de bed liner easily to show off my pristine paint.
What does the FORD logo thing look like... the one that is behind the OEM spray job? Is it simply a chunk of blow molded plastic with three strips of sticky tape on it?
I had Line-x in my 2014 Sierra and the factory denali bedliner in my 2016. The line-x was a hell of alot more durable. I actually use my bed and the liner isnt pretty anymore like my line-x was
It looked like the ford liner was sealed around the edges which should be water resistant for some time. And i think they are just scuffing the clear coat for those worried about scratching the paint.
jmurphy1973 kind of surprised they don't just spray it in prior to clear coat right on the bare paint or primer. hide the line under the plastic bed caps
I would have beat up the factory liner vs paying more money for the removal then applying a new liner. Waste of money in my opinion. I didn’t see an issue with the factory one.
I had to remove a factory bedliner from gm and it didnt come off this easy.looked the same underneath not sure if gm used a adheisive promoter or what but it would only come off in tiny pieces. Spent 40 hrs doing the tailgate and half the box.that time also includes me spraying the truck too.
The Ford bed liner may look like a "SPRAYED IN" liner, but to me it looks like a multi-piece "STICK-ON" unit with adhesion material around the outer 3" of each section. Look at the edge of the bed when they show the liner. How does a spray in liner go straight across the divets in the bed and not conform to the bed? Also look at the wheel wells when it is removed. Perfect pieces. Also, how does one spray in a FORD logo in the front of the liner? APPLES vs ORANGES...
the logo is embossed in the aluminum. the only difference between the two is the sanding which creates better adhesion. removing the bolts is a no no, mask them or spray them
sprayed liners still leaves your bed susceptible to dents if you're throwing heavy objects in like red tool boxes with sharp corners. a drop in might be a better choice, when it gets rough pull it out and drop in a new one.
I'd beat up the factory one first. I understand it's a promotion but there's a reason he said they've never done this before. Line-x isn't good enough to make anyone remove their brand new factory liner.
I dont think anyone questions the quality and durability of LineX it always comes down to the price and who can afford it or if the vehicle is worth doing in LineX.
If your using your truck like a damn truck you wouldn't care how the bed looks. Mine is beat to shit, scuffed up and dented like a truck bed should be. I didn't buy mine to show boat around town and keep it "pretty".
The Ford stuff is pretty good for being done on an assembly line where they don't have the time to prep a bed etc never going to get the same kind of job or product coming from the factory
One thing is for sure. When the world ends, there will be 2 things that survive. The roaches and the floor of that spraying booth.
lol
what about Mad Max!!??
This music is getting me jacked up! I'm going back to my office and kick over the plant by the door
for work trucks you def need this but for people that use their truck bed for casual use the factory bedliner would be just fine.
WeekendWarriors p
I've got the factory liner in my 2018 F-150, and I like it. It's durable and offers the right amount of grip.
tools in action is an appropriate name for this gong show
I’m a ford regional accessories manager and the reason we don’t spray behind the bolts is because you can’t.When you do you create what we call a soft joint avoiding your ability to get your bolts torqued to the proper engineered specs causing you to void your warranty with Ford. WRONG. Your information is completely incorrect, proving you are not who you say you are. Gotta love fanboys and their made up internet personas.
MrHeepspo Have any proof against him?
You are a fucking liar...Edmiston.....PROOF....www.fi-magazine.com/312477/big-three-reject-claims-spray-on-liners-void-warranty
@Allen Weise No it will not void your warranty....that's what he was saying. A spray in bed liner under the bolts isn't gonna ruin anything.....
Yep, all about who installs it
I'm sold on Line X now over the factory Ford liner. You have to give Tools in Action props for letting them rip the liner out of his tail gate. Great video!
Thanks Ted!
so will you cover it if the bed shifts and messes up Wires?
I have a 2004 Tacoma that I bought new and put a Line X bed liner after a couple of months. It is still going strong with zero problems after all these years. Can't say enough about Line- X

I don’t know what gets me more hyped. The results or the music
I have the 2016 factory liner and it's held up very well. Unfortunately, I see this as a solution looking for a problem. The factory liner could be improved upon regarding lashing points but for the vast majority of today's population, it does quite well as is.
who else can tell that he was trying to pull it off in small pieces
ME LOL! He didn't even try on the edges like the stock liner!
Yep. On the factory liner they stard at a border and pull from there. In the one they installed he id just making small cuts and pulling chips
Randy Savage I laughed watching him with his Needle nose pliers.. duh use the same tools and let us see the truth.
It has better adhesion because the factory doesn't even scuff the surface.
Awesome!
13:42 that’s good to know that there is different levels to it and that’s exactly what I want from a bed liner is to look nice and never fade 🤙🏼
My. 17 f150 developed this rattles at 8400 miles but I was abled to remedy the issues by following the instruction from some of the videos on here with lithium grease.
Had the local Line-X spray a blue liner color matched to the paint on my Wife's El Camino. It was a closer match than I would have ever expected.
Thats awesome!
lol 6:18 we never done this😕 its our first time 😊but relax we've done this for a long time😝 ..... thats comforting to know😅....
I’ve never had an issue with the factory liner
Why fix what isn’t broken?
Just bought a brand new Ford F150 and it had no bed liner, i asked the dealer to add a bed liner and i wanted a Ford factory bed liner - the Ford dealer refused and told me they’d fit a LineX liner because they are superior. I said okay, i dont mind. Very happy now I’ve seen this video.

Thanks Bear!
Imagine being in a video that gets nearly half a million views and your fly is down...BEN!
What's the point of replacing the bed liner when you destroy the surface it supposed to protect first?
This is awesome. I’ve been trying to find this exact comparison for weeks.

wow unreal what a difference between the two also your crazy for letting them take the line x off on ur truck!

Well it's sealed so it wouldn't have anything getting to it
And you have a choice, if at one point you want to remove the liner you can with almost no damage to the paint. #prochoice
I disagree my 2015 F-150 Factory spray bed liner is fading, plus the factory miss area where the tie down area are at i try twice to get Ford to fix but claims were denied. I had line x on my last two truck and love it.
I wouldn't replace it on a new truck with a liner in it already but if it needs to be replaced, i'll be taking it to Line X.
I agree 100%. I would never let these goons sand down the bed on my brand new truck. I'll put in a bed mat instead,
Getting mine put sprayed in my '16 Colorado on Monday! -- Can't wait --- ps: rock music is awesome, love it!
Thanks! You will love it
1:10 not true. I know for a fact if you damage a Ford spray in bedliner they can patch it to where you can't even really notice.
not much of a firm believer I have seen your material Blister in about 3 to 4 years
I will take my factory spray in liner any day after watching this, No thanks Line X.
That's some strong stuff. I have heard how great it is for years. I always had drop in liners in my trucks. Not the best but it works. This infomercial was entertaining lol. Thanks TIA. #tiacrew
lol
I have it in my truck and it takes a beating and holds up great.
I have a plastic drop-in liner now and it looks like it’s actually rubbed through the paint in a couple spots. Is that very common?? I’m going to pull it out and replace it with Line-X.
I have lineX on a 2001 ram that was on it when I bought it like 12 years ago. It’s a little faded now but looks great no chips .

my grandfather put line-x on his truck back in 99' with never had any issues
They last forever
+Tools In Action the only this is that it's faded so it's not a true black anymore
Nice in depth review for the line x brand these guys do a great job

Hmmm, the argument of comming off in small parts doesn't seem that useful. It means if I ever want to take it off i'll struggle more.
I'm thinking of getting an old 1970's pull behind camper. would linex work on the top to
1) keep water tight
2) help keep cooler
3) protect from hail or small tree branches
Just pointing this out, last year I had my 97 f150 sprayed with line x and the warranty is void due to pre existing rust in the bed. Just pointing that out.
Guarantee there will be some warranty voiding issue for everyone that tries to use it.
That seems pretty legitimate to me. As long as they told you that before installation. Nice to know though.
+luke saylor yea the guy was upfront about it as he was checking out the bed and telling me the process they go through, I pretty much saw that coming but the people that owned the truck before be had a rubber mat in the bed which I believe contributed to the rust.

no the factory bed liner is not junk all you have to do is take it in and get the truck rhinos where they didn't put any and all I can do is just over blow on top of the factory one and you're good to go
That's freakin awesome bro and u were brave to let them mess with the truck bro lol!! Those guys do a great job and when I get my new truck I will definitely look into putting Line-x on my bed! Thanks Bro!! T.I.A#1!!! #TIACREW
How are the spray in liners when they're trying to shovel dirt or mulch out of them? Do they gouge or make it harder to remove the material?
The first thing I slid into my 2 month old line-x bed, a bolt head ripped the liner. To line-x credit, it could have been fixed, but I no longer have that truck.
The only reason the factory spray in Berliner came off so easy is because they never scuffed the paint before it was sprayed.
Tank Soldier haha XD
I see that you re-use the factory box bolts, are you aware that the Ford service manual says that the box bolts and clips are single use meaning once they are removed they have to be tossed and be replaced with new.
The truck is made from Aluminum I am sure reusing some steel box bolts isnt going to cause an issue
Beware, these people think they know everything. I agree, them bolts are going to be just fine.
Pilinchi1 Beware, you know bolts stretch when torqued right? That’s why you replace them as it’s the best way to make sure it’s on securely. Best way to keep it feeling factory.
i was thinking in the begenning, you know what this video needs? generic royalty free guitar rock!
Take it back to Line-X and have them fix it.
Why would you order factory Berliner if your going to tear it out to replace?
Sometimes they are already in the truck
sometimes you just don't know any better.
I'm going with the DualLiner system. Looks pretty good.
I'm honestly surprised they (Line-X) didn't scuff the bed of that truck better. There was a lot of shiny spots left on that bed before they started spraying. and they sprayed both side of the tailgate latch mechanism.
Cool show and cool line-x brand very good stuff my friend :)
So he says "Protect the Paint" you mean like underneath the bed liner? at that point why do I even care about the paint at all? Is not like it shows or I can remove de bed liner easily to show off my pristine paint.
that chisel made me cringe
Kind of an oxymoran lol. One you put that shit on you are not gonna get pristine paint taking it off lol
What does the FORD logo thing look like... the one that is behind the OEM spray job? Is it simply a chunk of blow molded plastic with three strips of sticky tape on it?
I don't even know what to say this video is Bad ASS!!!!
I had Line-x in my 2014 Sierra and the factory denali bedliner in my 2016. The line-x was a hell of alot more durable. I actually use my bed and the liner isnt pretty anymore like my line-x was
I would not remove a brand new bed liner just to add another. If it was bare paint, sure let's go linex
It looked like the ford liner was sealed around the edges which should be water resistant for some time. And i think they are just scuffing the clear coat for those worried about scratching the paint.
Chance06Se scuffing is scratching. I worked at a body shop over the summer. Paint won't adhere to the surface unless it's scratched
Imagine the extra cost on the window sticker if all that bed prep was done at the factory before putting a liner in.
The prices are already high enough.
jmurphy1973 kind of surprised they don't just spray it in prior to clear coat right on the bare paint or primer. hide the line under the plastic bed caps
AGREED!
the logo is embossed in the aluminum. the only difference between the two is the sanding which creates better adhesion. removing the bolts is a no no, mask them or spray them
Sweet, when i get a truck with a bedliner that needs replacing i know where to take it! :)
Are they taking the paint off the bed of the truck?
sprayed liners still leaves your bed susceptible to dents if you're throwing heavy objects in like red tool boxes with sharp corners. a drop in might be a better choice, when it gets rough pull it out and drop in a new one.
Wont sanding the bed make it rust between the layers?
I'd beat up the factory one first. I understand it's a promotion but there's a reason he said they've never done this before. Line-x isn't good enough to make anyone remove their brand new factory liner.
I would say roll on is just a temp fix but it will get you started in protection.
Wow, I would not have thought there would be a big difference. But you can really see the difference between the 2. #TIACREW
I have a line X in my truck and love it but mine doesn't have line X in between the tailgate and truck bed
I believe if you just use a heat gun on the line x, it peels off too line the factory bed liner
Never heard of that.
I like the factory liner better as it is possible to remove it and have a nice painted bed if ever wanted.
I dont think anyone questions the quality and durability of LineX it always comes down to the price and who can afford it or if the vehicle is worth doing in LineX.
This is the longest add I have ever seen.
If your using your truck like a damn truck you wouldn't care how the bed looks. Mine is beat to shit, scuffed up and dented like a truck bed should be. I didn't buy mine to show boat around town and keep it "pretty".
The Ford stuff is pretty good for being done on an assembly line where they don't have the time to prep a bed etc never going to get the same kind of job or product coming from the factory
if the factory liner was prepped properly, would it come out so easily?
probably not
Diamond liner in Santa Fe Springs California....way better they actually do a light sand blast on the whole bed. Way thicker than all the competition
Wow. Thanks for making me aware of this issue
