Jay & Amber, You'll LOVE her "Walk On By, "I Say A Little Prayer," and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" !!!! All three written by the legendary team of Burt Bacharach-music and Hal David-lyrics. Dionne + Hal + Burt =Timeless Music!!! edit- "Don't Make Me Over" was her first single and also written by Bacharach & David, with background vocals by the Gospelaires, which featured sister Dee Dee, Sylvia Shemwell and aunt Cissy Houston.
I LOVE Dionne! My favorite is "Promises Promises," that shows what a powerhouse Dionne is! I also love "I Say a Little Prayer For You," "Message To Michael" and "Do You Know the Way To San Jose?" There are just so many songs I can't even list them !!
@@tonimartim5056 Not quite the true story, Cissy moved in with Dionne's mother, Cissy's older sister Lee, after their parents died, so Lee helped finish raising Cissy and Lee was already having children so Cissy lived with Dionne and Dede as they all grew up in Lee's house. Incidentally, her birth name is Warrick.
Dionne Warwick's best song (to me) is I'll Never Fall in Love Again. It's the little things she does, very subtle. And it's a total vibe. From 1970. Written by Burt Bacharach.
Dionne Warwick had the great voice, and could dial up the emotion after being cool. A lot of her best songs were written for her by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. She was probably their first choice for their songs too. This is a deep rabbit hole! "Walk On By" "Anyone Who Had A Heart" Do You Know The Way To San Jose" "I'll Never Fall In Love Again" and I'll stop right there, there's so much more. (Her real surname was Warrick but the record company made a typo mistake on her first release so she stuck with Warwick!) Her aunt was Cissy Houston which means Whitney Houston was her cousin. I think.
Some fun (mostly) facts about Dionne Warwick. 1. She is Whitney Houston's auntie. 2. She sold over 100 million records, with 56 charting singles and 2 number one hits. 3. She won six Grammy awards. 4. Despite all that, she declared bankruptcy in 2013. 5. She was the favoured singer of composer Burt Bacharach. She recorded over 100 of his songs, and at least 39 of those charted. 6. She is still performing today at age 83.
FINALLY!!! Getting to Dionne's early stuff! She was at her best when singing Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs: Walk On By, Anyone Who Had a Heart, A House is Not a Home, etc. She had a TON of hits, one after another in the 1960s. Great, distinctive voice. Interruptions are kind of irritating, but good reaction. Thanks.
I'm so nice for appreciating this music and doing the homage that these artists so truly deserve I vicariously relive the moment through you both the first time I heard these songs and I thank you so very very much! ❤️🙏✨
Dionne Warwick was one of the greatest singers of the '60s and '70s! The song I think you'll really love is her pairing with the Spinners on "Then Came You," a #1 hit from 1974. It's Dionne's foray into Philadelphia soul!
Another one of many collaborations between Dionne Warwick and the great multi talented Burt Bacharach! Together they owned the classy soft sounds of the 60s & early 70s: "Walk on by", "Wish' and Hopin', "The look of Love", "Do you Know the Way to San Jose", "I say a little prayer for you", "Make it easy on yourself", "What the World needs now, is love sweet love", "I'll never fall in love Again", "Alfie". There are priceless vids of them performing together
Dionne’s catalog is EXTENSIVE! The most charted hits by a woman in the 60's and 70’s! And her family, the Drinkards are voices and she is also a cousin of opera legend Leontyne Price.
Rob Squad previously did Warwick's "Heartbreaker" (1982) & "That's What Friends Are For" (1985). "Don't Make Me Over" was Warwick's first hit (late 1962-1963)
I’ve never heard this song before, but what a beautiful velvety voice and amazing phrasing 😍. Dionne Warwick, as others have said, is the best singer to interpret the Bacharach and David songbook.
So Happy to see y'all playing the stunning Miss Dionne!! I missed the first two times, I'll have to check it out! Loved the response and respect! ✌️ y'all
My mom loved Dionne Warwick! Some of my favorite memories with my mom--she acquired a second hand piano and bought the Burt Bacharach/Hal David songbook so she could learn to play her favorite Dionne songs that came a little later in her career. Sitting beside her as her page-turner and the two of us singing together. I was a rock-n-roller, but, due to my beautiful mom, I had a soft spot in my heart for artists like Dionne Warwick.
Dionnes great beautiful voice and the great song writing by David & Bacharach how could this not b a hit . I loved it back in the day still do. One of the greatest songs for me!!
Dionne is the pride of E. Orange, NJ right down the road from where I grew up in Passaic. I love this performance of hers. It's in waltz time too. She sings with so much emotion. Her hits go on from the sixties till now!
Thank you for getting to this legendary singer! She ruled the 60s with master hits. She was good friends with Karen Carpenter and Olivia Newton John as well as cousin to Whitney Houston. Next reaction should be 'Walk on By' when she's performing in a beautiful green dress!
My father loved Dionne Warwick. She was part of the soundtrack after church. I'll add some other songs to the suggestions... "Alfie"... ""Are You There with Another Girl"... "Trains and Boats and Planes"... and of course "Message to Michael"... my namesake. And kudos to the brilliant composer... Burt Bacharach. (You'll have to listen to the collaboration album of Burt... and Elvis Costello!)
Mrs. Warwick has got one of the most impressive catalogs of music of anyone! So many albums, and helluva lot of iconic songs. I have a personal playlist dedicated to my most favorite songs of hers; well over 50. Other artists that have impressive catalogs are Nat King Cole, and James Brown; dozens of albums. I think for both Cole and Brown, my faves of theirs counted to 90 or more songs (and those would just be of 'my' personal favorites).

Lucky day for all three of them. The Bacharach/David songwriting team produced numerous chart toppers throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s.
She was so great. "Say a little prayer for you" is a must. "Heartbreaker" written by the Bee Gees and them singing back up, put her back on the charts!
Loved your reaction and comments guys to the legendary Dionne Warwick. I've always enjoyed her music and have several of her albums. I even had the pleasure of seeing her perform in 66, my first year of college. Her voice was absolutely amazing! A few of us students got to meet her afterwards. She was so kind and gracious. It will be a memory I'll always cherish. Looking forward to more Dionne Warwick.
I only knew the 80’s/90’s cover of this song, I had no idea Dionne Warwick sang this song originally, she’s always been such a class act w/an amazing voice!
This was Dionne's first hit. She was still only 21 in the fall of 1962 when this was released. She had been recording demos for the songwriting team of Bacharach and David, who would end up writing many of her hits. Dionne's sister Dee Dee and her aunt Cissy Houston (Whitney's mom) sang back-up.
Interesting story behind this song...Dionne had recorded a song "Make It Easy On Yourself" and the production team, Burt Bacharach and Hal David, told her it was to be her first hit. But one day in the car radio she heard a male singer had re-recorded her song. As Dionne retells the story "Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. I let them know that one thing they cannot do is change me: 'Don't make me over.'" Hence, Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote this song expressly for Dionne.
There are not enough words. This is the short non-studio version. Our Ms. Warwick is the pinnacle of musical royalty. She, Hal David, and Burt Bacharach owned the 1960s. She had so many hits. Walk On By was an early hit. What the World Needs Now is amazing! What Do You Get When You Fall In Love is a really catchy song. Her entire catalog of hits are well worth exploring. Windows of the World is a beautiful, touching song by Dionne that many may have missed. It was popular during the Vietnam War era and makes reference to those leaving in the military draft. It was the B-side of a 45 rpm hit I owned back in the day.
Dionne Warwick was ALL over the radio and variety shows when I was young. Thanks for doing this one. I haven't heard it in decades! You definitely need to react to more of Ms Warwick's hits. "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" was a monster hit of hers. The studio version is best to listen to first but for a live performance check out when she was on the show Solid Gold -> Dionne Warwick | SOLID GOLD | “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” (10/25/1980)
Jay and Amber this reaction was spot on like most of them you do, but your description of Dionne Warwick's voice can never be said better. Great Job Fam.
You really need to do Walk on By.
I was about to comment that very thing!
You’re so right!
Yes they keep picking the wrong songs
Great choice
Footnote: Walk On By was recorded November 22, 1963. It’s my favorite tune by her.
They picked the absolute worst Dionne song. It is almost insulting.
@@blackblake3658With that voice, she doesn't have a bad song.
Ceila Black's version is really good too
All of these are legendary tunes by her! Also, Bacharach, such an incredibly prolific songwriter.
@@blackblake3658 The song is in the Grammy Hall Of Fame.
That woman ruled the 60s! A legend.
"What the World Needs Now"...a lovely song by her that is very appropriate for how the world is right now.
Yes We Can Can has had me inspired. I think it's the Pointer Sisters. So positive and a message to support others.
Agreed
I thought that was sung by Dusty Springfield.
You are right 👍🏼♥️
That and her Windows of the World are very appropriate today. Check that song out.
You should check out "Heartbreaker" by Dionne Warwick. The song was written for her by Barry, Maurice & Robin Gibb!
they reacted to Heartbreaker Jan 6, 2023. The other one was That's What Friends Are For, with Elton, Gladys and Stevie.

@surlechapeau. Thanks! I don't know how I missed it, I've been watching everyday for 3 years!

Also try by her “Do you know the way to San Jose” and “I say a little prayer for you”

Yes. And all those are iconic.
Promises, promises really demonstrates her reach as a vocalist. Amazing performance!
