6:11 per mile splits is insanely fast. That guy could literally show up for an Army fitness test, score maximum points on the 2 mile run while WALKING the entire course and do it 6 consecutive times. If he went to Special Forces or Ranger selection, he would be passing people on the graded 2 mile and 5 mile runs.
True, though compared to running 6:11 is really not that fast. Not uncommon for even high school athletes to do 5 or 10 miles at a sub 6 pace.

Imagine this guy behind you just walking casually, you start to panic thinking he's tailing you. You end up scared and start running. You find out it's useless as he never seems to run out of energy as his walk is to your run. Ive been a runner for many years
When im training i can run a long slow run at about 5-6 min pace per km
Ive tried to walk fast and find im okay down to 7 plus mins per km but as soon as i try to walk faster i automatically have an overwhelming urge to run

Nah, you should try it. Since you have to keep your leg straight your body will get used to flicking you leg straight out and it’ll feel more comfortable once you the the technique down. You’ll get used to flicking your leg straight out.

Thanks for that, it's the perfect analogy. It's the most stupid "sport" in the Olympics. "yes" you have to be athletic to almost-but-not-quite-run, but it's unique in it's stupidity. At least with different swimming strokes they are fundamentally different to each other. Here the "must have one foot on the ground, hope the slow-mo doesn't pick up what garbage that is" rule is such an artificial restraint to the basic premise of movement. Running backwards would be a much better sport. Or hopping. Or the classics, standing long jump or standing high jump. Anything really.

I've been blessed to do 5 miles an hour, speed walking 6 miles 6 days a week. Used to run in my teens, twenties, and 30's. Now in my 60's during the pandemic I still work on my speed and form. Today 5 miles, 1 hour 7 minutes. Tomorrow Lord willing, further and faster.

Over the distances they compete at, yeah, probably him to. You can see the progression in the races Bolt did compete in. At 100 meters (rounded), 9.5 seconds; 200 meters, 19.2 seconds; 400 meters, 45.3 seconds; 800 meters, 2 minutes 10 seconds.
World records for the 800 meters have been kept since 1912. None were that slow (it was 1:52 in 1912). In the 2011 California high school championships, Bolt would have finished 8th in the high school _girls_ final.

that's because the army has low standards. A 6 minute mile is a level anyone can (and should) get to, and not so fast that it impacts other areas of fitness.

That's 10 miles per hour, which I can barely reach in a flatout sprint. Anyone in good health might be able to do it after years of training, but it's out of reach for non-athlete women
