Happy to know that Ellis is keeping an eye on our tech. We're big fans of the podcast here! And yes, the OK Go video COULD easily have been made using NDI... we like that theory. 🙂
When I saw David sitting in the driver's chair, I gleefully thought we'd finally get another episode dedicated to the fediverse. But alas, twas only a dream.
@ Thought of that. Guam and other small territories are kind of inconsequential. Then again, part of Alaska is west of the Date Line. Guess they had to pick a spot.
Hearing a tech podcast saying “it’s getting hard to cover tech without involving politics but we’re still going to try and avoid politics” is insanely mind melting. Tech has always affected politics it’s just that now that the people controlling our tech are showing up in DC and the government is showing up in Silicon Valley people you cant pretend to have no stance
Being "neutral" is just being on the side of the oppressor, I didn't expect much but still disappointed considering how hard marques used to go on about elon and him *seeming* like an ethical person I expected he would at least say something about the whole situation.
@@Uberfox01 Dude he doesn’t. If you’ve been watching Marques you know full well that people are expecting him to make the smallest mistake or comment and make it a huge controversy. People forget that what he says impacts the livelihoods of his team. Stop expecting him to be this activist that he never was in the first place.
Just because tech "impacts" politics doesn’t mean tech influencers need to comment on politics. Nobody wants their political takes, just like I wouldn’t want a politics influencer reviewing tech. Tech affects many areas, but that doesn’t mean they have to go into every issue. Taking a political stance would also alienate followers who disagree, which no one needs.
@Ellis. iOS Engineer here. Your horribly slow iPhone is very likely due to the reasons you mentioned. It’s not common knowledge but iOS does seem to use some storage space as memory swap space. So if you clear up a few gigs of storage your iPhone performance should improve. Keep in mind once your battery capacity drops below 80% it will also see some decreased performance. Also, if you’re using it in really cold weather it could compound all of the aforementioned issues. It’s worth mentioning that most iOS apps are built with the latest hardware in mind, so most devs won’t notice performance issues because they’re running either on a simulator or on more powerful iPhones.
omg i didn't realize the George Lopez being on at 4:00am was universal 🤣 really love the chit chat at the end while the cats are away, felt like i was hanging out with the boys haha
10:58 This is where a GenZ turns into Bane from the Dark Knight Rises and say "But you merely adopted the dark(TikTok); I was born in it, molded by it". Funny how he hasnt used TikTok, especially when the crew around him adopts any new app and test run features from personal experiance for the love of tech.
I so love your NetSuite and script. Part about Cristal Ball, particularly. Oracle literally has a Monte Carlo simulation tool called Cristal Ball, which they were neglecting for years to the point it is no longer usable or worth the money
Got to @59:02 of the pod - where David takes control. Wanted to pause the pod to give a janky shout-out ("Woo! Get 'em, David! Yay!"), before continuing on. Lol. Love the support of the episode by all. Cheers. 🍻
Thank you so much for not being politics into this show!! I am so grateful to have a place to come where I can just enjoy what I love and not have politics be apart of it! Thank you!
I use the sleep timer on youtube all the time, but i set it about an hour ahead as i never get waken up within that time after i first fall asleep, but still give me enough time so that i won't be aware of the sleep timer itself
1:02:37 i feel u man , I’m still using iPhone X and that does happen sometimes not as usual as u say . I love how small and thin these older devices, hate to change it.
34:00 I am so hyped for the Oppo Find N5/ OnePlus Open 2. It's even thinner than the iPad Pro M4! Hopefully the new Gemini features work here, amazing how they went from not being able to set an alarm (which the old assistant could) to leading the game. Sad you only discussed the examples everyone talks about instead of trying it out yourself. Felt like all of you were less prepared than usual.
33:30 i think his point was that back then change was purposeful everyone was throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks, but now the entire industry is largely in the same place. it sounds hyperbolic to say the smartphone design is 'perfected' and theres no room to manneuver anymore outside of spec bumps but i think that might be roughly where we're at until we move away from the slab of glass format entirely into glasses or some other as yet unknown medium (direct brain interfaces playing with your visual cortex in response to thoughts O_O could be cool)
iPhone from 12 pro Max to 16 pro max minor upgrades and visually almost the same Samsung from Galaxy S22 Ultra to S25 Ultra minor upgrades and visually almost the same.
Hi Ellis. I think it might be the battery if you have not changed one recently. Older battery are short in capacity but also in maximum current as well. So if ram or cpu need a high power doing some tasks an older battery can make it extremely slow or sometimes crashes. Not sure if this helps. Ps: I am daily driving a 13mini (pink). May I say I am with you?
1:03:40 Ellis, buddy I can feel that pain... I recently lost my phone and had to switch to my older phone, which isn't iphone its a vivo, but I can tell the physical chips like ram soc and the storage are degraded partially, feels like some transistors or something stopped working... Sometimes it clicks automaticaally so i have to lock the screen and turn on again, in winter its even more severe somehow... Yea I need a new phone soon... I cant even access web on here, banking and payment apps dont work... Somehow Yt and whatsapp work its a miracle how I use this phone. And we are very familiar with cleaning junk files every right? Its like regular everyday exercise... My pain is double because I used a very good phone for a year after using this phone in this condition for 4 years, recently lost it, this is my first ever smartphone, and I think its on the last breaths, it feels very loyal to me, every single transistor in this phone seems to be loyal 😅
In my case its not a choice, I'm in student phase, dont have a laptop currently, so yea, this situation will change as soon as I have money... In fact first priority
I'm not a fan of spinoffs, generally they don't interest me. But David and Ellis's podcast is the only spinoff I have actively thought about and was very happy it happened.
I've been using Gemini to create artwork for my daughter to color and the base Gemini will not generate pictures with with a specific person in it. When she had asked for a picture of Barbie doing something it was 50/50 if it would work. Giving it some other random request and then asking again it would often do it. IDK how relevant this would be to anyone else, but but creating random coloring book type artwork has been kinda neat and entertaining.
Here's how to bring back Google Assistant on your phone instead of Gemini. (Tested on Moto G84) 1. Install the Google Assistant app from Play Store 2. Open the app 3. It will take you to a settings page where you can choose between Gemini and Google Assistant as default assistant. 4. Choose Google Assistant 5. Profit
Samsung is taking risks with their folding phones. They were the first ones (ignoring the flexpai). So I think it’s fine they’re playing it safe for their galaxy S line
There is an optical sensor on both joy cons. When they are in mouse mode on the trailer they go into adapters that you can then use the joy con as a mouse.
With the 24 line up being so good and profitable for them, can we expect them to do a new design when ppl still liked the design. It comes down to whether you wish to upgrade every year or wait a few until it feels new.
I would love to see the embargo for all the big tech channels to moved to after these events have concluded. It’s such a buzzkill for that event to start and have notifications from like 10 big channels push out hands on/summary videos the second it starts.
51:24 it's a bad angle for the video but it's three different phone sizes 25 regular and S24 and S25 edge. The edge is obviously thinner, even at 20ft straight on😅
Ellis, I've been experiencing the same digitizer issue on my iPhone 15 Pro max, always have to lock the screen to get the screen working again for some reason. So it's not just the iPhone mini
The Samsung Ultra phone was almost as different as you can get without moving/changing the cameras. I swore off the ultra as I hated the rounded sides and hated the sharp 90 degree angles. This is the first ultra that I would even consider getting due to the hardware changes alone.
Just because Marques is gone making a video coming out of the bushes doesn't mean go crazy guys. 😂
we respectfully disagree
Coming out of the bushes was one of the reasons I unsubbed from autofocus.
The other reason was I discovered Hagerty and the bar has been set. Sorry, Marques, iPhone videos don't cut it anymore.
😂
oh hush, let them have fun
the intro feels like what happens when you leave two kids home alone for the first time when they are 13
this is exactly how we felt
Fascinating

Best add read ever please have Ellis read all the ads from now on. I just love his energy
Short answer to the title: No.
Actually you missed that It's only the same if your blind
@Space97. If you read into it a bit the phone actually has a different chip.
Not that this made any real use difference the past 3 generations.
Happy to know that Ellis is keeping an eye on our tech. We're big fans of the podcast here!
And yes, the OK Go video COULD easily have been made using NDI... we like that theory. 🙂
I screamed like a little girl when I read this comment
ellis i appreciate that this is the only podcast i’ll ever hear about NDI, something I use for streaming all the time
The selfie at 35:35 is amazing! 😆
😂😂😂
Ellis doing ads is something I’ll never be bored of
The transition in personality from Producer Ellis to Cohost Ellis is always fun to watch. He totally changes his demeanor.
The palm photo gag was elite. Thank you for whoever did that
I laughed so hard 😂
35:38 the type of thing I appreciate waveform for. Small details that show you they care.
ellis in the host seat, y'know it's bout to get crazy !!!
I love these unhinged Marques-less supervision episodes. 👏
15:05 “what are magnets?” New sound bite 😂
"Magnets, how do they work" kinda thing
In other news: Planting seeds induces visible growth of nature. 😮
super appreciate the clarity aimed at non US viewers right at the start.
We don't need AI infrastructure. We need actual physical infrastructure to be repaired, maintained and built.
Convincing Billionaires to Not Spend Money on Nonsense Challenge, impossible.

Pixedfed gets a shout out from him at the end though!
@GimmeTaxShelter yeah that's true. We got something.
Never did I think I’d hear Dunkey referenced in one of these podcasts, but I’m here for it
TikTok went down “early” because Puerto Rico is an hour ahead of the East Cost. That was midnight for PR.
What about Guam then? Don’t make sense
@ Thought of that. Guam and other small territories are kind of inconsequential. Then again, part of Alaska is west of the Date Line. Guess they had to pick a spot.

1:06:41 great editing, Adam 😂
The ok go treadmill video is older than the youtube version, the original video came out in 2006 - it's 19 years old.
Bro 🥹😭 I have a iPhone 13 mini since the beginning and it's still like a champ !!! More power to minis!!! Bring them back 🎉!
i normally skip the sponsored ads, but when Ellis does it, i don't lol
I downloaded the AI white paper and all… just because Ellis asked me too. 🫶
I've had a very busy day at work and then I realized as I'm leaving I get to listen to this podcast. This is me leaning into the weekend 😎
The only tech podcast I never get bored of!
35:48 appreciation comment for the editors, good job!
S Tier edit imo
How come your iPhone 12 Mini is being slow? I've got iPhone 11 Pro and it's still smooth as butter, I've also got 64GB of storage. 😯

Big fan of the countdown to David's selfie. Made me lol! Hidden gem!

This is the first video I haven't skipped the ad reads for ever. Well done Ellis!
Ellis's ad reads are superb!
Thanks for the Rooms shout out! FYI that the description has the wrong link for Rooms :)
Okay the ending was so fun you guys are hilarious when Andrew and marques are away
1:01:56 I sent one of those messages not too long ago 😂 So cool to get an indirect shoutout. Next time I'll definitely say hello
Can you make a short of that Pixelfed explanation so I can send it to people to try and get them to switch?
Seconding this
Huge fan of the Bird Collective hummingbird patch that Ellis has on his jacket
Love this podcast! So fun to listen to while driving to work.
Ok… I want all my ads read by Ellis, hereafter!! Period!! He is hilariously entertaining!
Something interesting is in Korea, China, and Taiwan you can get the S25 Ultra with 16gb of ram, but everywhere else its only 12gb.
This episode’s LOL moment for me - Ellis’ “A timeline of lies!” 😂
I so love your NetSuite and script. Part about Cristal Ball, particularly. Oracle literally has a Monte Carlo simulation tool called Cristal Ball, which they were neglecting for years to the point it is no longer usable or worth the money

23:43 bold of Ellis 😮 and that subtle smile from Adam 😂 we know we know
I'm still on 12 mini too! I even shoot my RUclips videos on it!
When the cats are away, the dogs come out 😂😂😂😅😅😅
Y’all held it down ❤
Definitely need that Adam's trade-in corner youtube channel!
Thank you so much for not being politics into this show!! I am so grateful to have a place to come where I can just enjoy what I love and not have politics be apart of it! Thank you!
35:43 I laughed so hard at that edit!! 😂
I dig the Ellison ad reads for some reason
I love how the Pixelfed developer also has a TikTok replacement and a Kickstarter to help fund both.
Dirty dishes + new podcast = a formidable productivity combo

Fully expecting a mini-trivi-stravaganza next week 😤 gotta make up for this week
7:52 this was a funny serious moment by Andrew, that 'At first!🤚' was weighty
Thanks for sharing it. ✌️
32:08 I hear reviewers say that about Samsung all the time they look the same but Apple has had the same look on their phone for 3 years longer😂

35:39 props to adam for doinf this😂😂😂
I've had a note for years, I use the note from screen off feature several times a day. Literally the only thing I use the stylus for
the samsung pre-recorded segment felt like when a teacher told the sub to put on shark tank, lit.
iPhone from 12 pro Max to 16 pro max minor upgrades and visually almost the same
Samsung from Galaxy S22 Ultra to S25 Ultra minor upgrades and visually almost the same.
Just a suggestion Ellis needs to do all the ads from here on out his enthusiasm & energy is 😎👌🏻🔥
The automatic deal breaker for me with the S25 Ultra is the lack of a Bluetooth S-Pen.
TM Roh should resign.
DJ Koh needs to be in charge again.
Hi Ellis.

I actually really like how Samsung just improved S25 line the phones are just great 👍
Awesome podcast keep it up 🤟👍😃
Yes. New chipset, new 50MP ultrawide camera, new curved edge design, new generic S-Pen.
46:51 it depends on the model for the length of time😅 the only thing that's going to go away that I use is the live portion of Gemini advanced.😢
You guys are awesome. keep pointing out these things - these tech games

I love that Trade in story

Love the podcast. If they could lower the lights it’s so bright. I understand it’s their aesthetic but man
Note 8 or 9 had IP68 rating, how have they not yet figured out a way to get a better rating with the S pen...
51:24 it's a bad angle for the video but it's three different phone sizes 25 regular and S24 and S25 edge. The edge is obviously thinner, even at 20ft straight on😅
Most unexpected outcome of Marques and Andrew leaving - Adam and Elis finally have their own microphones!
Ellis, I've been experiencing the same digitizer issue on my iPhone 15 Pro max, always have to lock the screen to get the screen working again for some reason. So it's not just the iPhone mini
Really??? Do you also have the base storage?
@ellisroven yep base storage, 230/256 GB used. I'm going to try force closing the background apps, test your RAM theory
David not mentioning The Wild Robot available to stream on Peacock starting Friday, 24 January 2025 is egregious
