    I loved How to Be a Stoic. Such a lovely, compassionate conversation between Pigliucci, Epictetus, and the reader.

    For someone looking for an introduction to Stoicism I would recommend that their very first book be “A Guide to the Good Life” by William B. Irvine. After reading that book, you should have a good idea about what Stoicism is, its history, how to apply it and why. Even one decided to then further study Stoicism I would then move on to his second book “The Stoic Challenge.” I would also recommend simultaneously purchasing “The Daily Stoic” by Ryan Holiday and doing one entry per day while reading “The Stoic” challenge. Other recommendations would be “Stillness Is The Key,” “The Obstacle Is The Way,” and “Ego Is The Enemy” by Ryan Holiday as well. That being said, I have ready many books on Stoicism and “A Guide To The Good Life” was in my opinion levels above the rest. The actually literature from the Stoics themselves are fantastic as well and if you’d like to dig deeper!

    Meditations of Marco Aurelius is the best book, especially if you get one with annotation. The other book is the Epictetus book. Those are first-hand stoicism books. A good review of other books, but some of them seem like self-help books and not philosophy books.

      Thank you for acknowledging Epictetus. Musonius Rufus (Epictetus' teacher) is another great resource for roman (Middle Stoa) stoicism.

    Stoicism has more power when you combine it with mysticism, since human beings seem to respond well to ritual, and spiritual ideas, without being dogmatic.

    Read "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*uck" by Mark Manson. On top of being the most easy book to read ever, even for non-English speakers, this book doesn't waste your time with difficult language that no one understands or too much nonsense abstract thinking. It goes for what you are looking for, which is deciding which things in your life you should care about, and which others you should just not.
    I assure you this book is going to changue your life.

      I read the book and it was complete trash ,"you can win" is killer though but stoicism is different from what the subtle art of not giving a fuck speaks about

    • @axess01exe97
      @axess01exe97 3 года назад +2

      @@ZubairKhan-hr2bp I don't really agree with that. Stoicism teaches about the development of self-control, and I feel like we care about many unnecesarily things on our daily basis, so avoiding these we can provide meaning to more important things, alongside relieving ourselfs from what we don't care. Of course this is my personal opinion, and what the book tells you, but I don't really see your point when you say that the book is not about stoicism.

      @@axess01exe97 superficially it is almost identical i agree but when you read a philosophy backed by a particular school of thought that has been refined through centuries can not be compared with an author who clutches the information from around with some personal philosophical touch and jot it down to formulate a book

    But I had a lot of interest in stoic philosophy.
    Should I spend some time on books on stoicism or it will not worth it ?
    I am preparing for JEE exam and am already studing for 9 to 11 hours
    Please suggest me how to start stoicism and with which book.
