Good insight. Seeing him hit in person is simply jaw dropping. Flushes the irons like its no one's business! Another very important element in his swing is how level his hipa are at impact, no tilting. He definitely does not hold onto it tightly, he has the fastest hand speed ever recorded at Ping headquarters.
Thanks for the insight. Agreed about the hip tilt. Are you saying that fast hands is an indicator or loose grip? Although he rotates a huge amount in the downswing before impact, he seems to do this as a response to pulling his arms. Just my observation, may not be the case.
South African golf instruction is a no-nonsense. Keep the club face stable and square. It was an eye-opener for me. I had classes in SA with an instructor who is a big proponent of this approach. It was a real game changer for me. Requires strong forearms and firm hands, though. I'm glad that you highlighted it. I like the way you explain swing mechanics. Kudos
I found a reference to the "spin the meatball" while watching Mike Austin clips. I tried this technique and it worked immediately. I am 71 and had never shot or broken my age, in the last 3 weeks, I have done it 3 times. It gets the elbow in front of the right hip and you just can't hit it left. Baby fades or straight even while attacking. If you fight LEFT, it is an immediate fix. Thank you Doc for bringing it to light.
I don't think he is deliberately trying to have the face open.....maybe abit of holding off....but you are right....face extremely stable through n pass impact....no effort to try to square face with hands.....thanks for the video!!
I would say not. The Cowen model prioritises the downward pressure of the right side while the left side only responding to that. I don’t see that being the case here.
What? The club opens after impact because theres a heavy heel strike with the ground, but the toe isn't digging into the dirt as much, then the toe grabs the dirt later which opens the face...
That’s what I initially thought but looking at other body shapes I’m not so sure. There looks like other torques going on. Also, the ground strike appears flush to me and the face doesn’t get immediately deflected which it would be if that were the case. It opens more gradually and a few frames after ground strike.

Thanks for the insight. I can see how string arms/wrists are required.

Sorry. I’m sure he’s not intending to strike with an opened face but applying that clockwise torque on the shaft
@GolfCoachDrNoel thanks coach!
I tried this before.. contact is very good but after couple of days, developed slight left elbow pain due to too much club compression
Thanks for sharing. Not to be copied I would suggest
Interesting stuff, Doc. Might have to put you through the pain of trying to teach me that =)
Bring it on 😅
At the finish, the left wrist is cupped and the right wrist is havily bowed.
I think this is a very distinctive shape.
Yes, very unusual
Is this the same type of pattern that Pete cowen is teaching?
I would say not. The Cowen model prioritises the downward pressure of the right side while the left side only responding to that. I don’t see that being the case here.

I still think he counters the outward torque from the heavy body pivot with a counter twist of the arms. Of course, I’m open to being wrong as always.
Cool, How many tournaments has he won? Why would an old amateur that can't rotate even think to try this? Sorry cool information but not helpful.
Ouch 🤕
He said multiple times it’s not for everyone. I’m 70 and it works great for me.
