Improv For Advanced Players: Try and improvise and start crying once you realize that you're not good enough
IM A PRO :D
🤣
Don't cry too much. No one ever wrote a story without throwing bunches of paper at the trash because it didn't sound right. Try try again.
@@patriciajrs46wrong. Some people actually are THAT gifted
@@brainloading5543 I was giving encouragement. Were you?
Beautiful lesson, Sir. I've piano for years, always tied to notes on a page. This is so much for fun!!!!!
You think this is good? Try synthesia piano. Look it up on RUclips
Anonkontello No, check out Rousseau, Toms Mucenieks, and Kassia.. Synthesia is never accurate, and it always simplifies the songs into something nothing like the original and it’s ridiculous...
Thank you very much for putting this up and doing it at a very basic level that doesn't use all sorts of crazy chords and things that beginners have no clue about. Very much appreciated.
This was really helpful, couldn’t help but smile seeing it all come together! You know that moment when someone explains something about you kind of get it, but then you see it all in action and that little thing clicks in your head? Thanks so much! Can’t wait to try it
Brilliant lesson. Sounds like john cena theme
cant see me
Are you sure about that?
😂😂😂
you are a genius teacher....been crushing your lessons all week...appreciate it so much
A superb lesson Jordan ! Gateway to a lot of joy with the piano. 😊
I've been playing almost as many weeks as I've got fingers on a hand. And this was a nice simple lesson that worked for me right away. Merci beaucoup.
this has been a breakthrough for me thanks
Very cool! After about 30 years of playing, mostly casually I admit, but with a solid five years of piano instruction, this whole improvisation thing still confuses me. I’m going to need to really slow down and analyze your video to try to understand it. Very cool. Thanks for sharing this.
Learn the circle of 5th and then practice your scales in each key. Then practice inverting the cords. Then this will become easy.
It does not work like this, but the tip about circle of fifths is good.
Great lesson thank you! Simple but cool sounding which is inspiring. Beginner player here but have played bass and guitar for years so this is perfect for my level. Pianote is the best!
Thanks Jordan, I'm a 2 year+ piano student and I'm learning/practicing scales, chords, arpeggios and Hanons 1-4 but that's all paying off. It was getting tough to keep at the practice but since I started this improve it shows me how much I've learned so far and it's fun improvising.
I think this is a great lesson. This is the kind of approach that I was hoping my targeted piano teacher would begin to work with me on. That did not happen. I am happy that I came upon this piece on your site. I have noticed that Lisa was talking about this sort of concept with her lesson on 3 and 4 note melodies with chords. I remember her saying "you can go anywhere" with the sequences and creations. Shuffling the melody notes around as well as the chords can be a lot of fun and gets the person to really think for themselves. I believe that not worrying about how things might sound while experimenting is probably key. That opens up a lot of possibilities. This type of approach is the total opposite and much more free than what I had been seeing in the Alberts book series of learning and much much better. For me, anyway. Thanks! :)
I thank you very much for you make the improvisation reachable for the amateur like me.
Super helpful ! I kept getting lost when I tried improvising. I needed an anchor ! Thank you !
What a pleasure it is to hear you talking about intervals. It took me years to work out that the whole of Western music is based on intervals of the Chromatic scale. Even great Jazz books that start with intervals forget to say WHY. Once I had worked out that all chords and scales exist independently as a set of intervals, and that is why it is so important to specify the quality, life became so much easier. Minor 7 is 3 4 3 Major 7 is 4 3 3 Minor maj 7 is 3 4 4 etc.. 9 11 & 13 just continue the pattern . Plus of course the Circle of Fifths instantly gives you the sharps and flats, no worrying did I memorise that scale correctly.
Very interesting. Do you have a book to recommend for learning this by any chance?
@@toxmot Rick Beato's book page 1 available on his youtube channel
"A thorough understanding of intervals is of the utmost importance in studying all types of
music, as intervals are the building blocks of polyphonic music"
I did not know whether to laugh or cry as I had the book for a while but ignored as I thought it was about guitar and I was beginner piano. Then I realised each guitar string = a piece of piano and the CAGED system used by Joe Pass is brilliant. I had by then reached my
conclusion by other means.
thank you!!! luv this video!
I’m just starting to focus on improvising, and this is super helpful and fun!
Cheers! Great tip!
Thanks, that was helpfull!
So glad to have found your channel, I started to play the piano some moths ago and I think these videos helped most so far so thanks 👍🏻
Same.
Your profile photo is.................... 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮🤪🤪🤪🤪
wow you can actually play this in the other tonalities with the pentatonic scales and some blues as well , thank you very much !
Sehr inspirierend. Vielen Dank für diese schöne Lektion.
Warm Greetings from Germany
Love it!
Thanks, very helpful
Excellent!! Thnx a lot!
super - can dig this!
Soo helpful!
thanks , useful way
Great video, very helpful
The funny thing is I learned to improv by accident. I’d get board of practicing so I constantly all day every day while practicing would just start messing around improvising when I was board and I got pretty good at it and I’m comfortable making stuff up while playing for people now. This video is Taylor’s much more to beginners then I needed but I think a good tip I’m simply just try it and learning along the way
Extremely helpful video, thank you
Nice lesson, i like ! Start following you now! Greetings from buenos aires!
This class is brilliant, thank you for sharing mate.
I have alot of ideas for short phrases but i have a very hard time putting the ideas to a piano and not have it sound horrible, i hope this helps
Thank you
subscribed on this video, amazing work bro
Nice and easy
Thanks 👍
Niicee, Thanks you, this helps me a lot :3
Interesting. Thanks. It's nice.
Cmon pastor 🙌
Really good
So obvious; you love playing piano & you make us love it too.
Thank uou very much Jordan!!
sooooo cooooll
2:52 *AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA*
HAHAHAHAHA
This killed me
I was following along and played that incidentally, I'm so glad he did it in the video too! It's ABGA in the first section though
You copied this comment wow ya looser
My brain: ok lets learn tho
My hands: imma head out
nice, I was clueless before this
Good shit
I was so confused! Am in English sounds the same as Em in Dutch 😆 now I see why you use only white keys (because it's Am ;))
All right, I'm new here but I'll give this one a lick.
This sounds really good. I can see why you started with the A minor chord as it has no sharps or flats and is simpler, but then I was a bit lost about why the next two chords were chosen. Could you explain? I am mostly concerned that I could not duplicate this chord progression if the starting key is different from A minor.
He chose the fourth chord of the A minor key as its the easiest sub-dominant chord to use, then he chose the fifth chord of the A minor key as its also the easiest dominant chord to use.
If you're using a different key, just use the 4th and 5th note of the key as the root note.
1-4-5 is the most basic and easy chord progression
There are a few ideas for how to learn piano
Try practicing about 1 hour every day, or even 1/2 an hour if you can't find time.
Do extra practice whenever you can. For example, on weekends you can do more than an hour, maybe two or 3, or even more.
(I read about these and more on Denelle piano lesson site )
I cant understand how you can do that with youre left hand
I am not creative at all, so how do you be more creative? I know there’s no mistakes in improv, but whenever I try it doesn’t sound good and i compare my self to others. How do i fix this?
Pianote Thank you! This helps a lot and improvising Sweet Home Alabama piano solo because i can’t do the original so thanks for the tips!
I am*
Its been 9 months, I hope u have improved at improvising. Many people have trouble coming up with ideas because they dont have any inspiration to draw from or they do but they arent tapping into it. I would suggest listening to music or watching a movie or getting inspiration from wherever you can find it. Then when your inspired, starts messing around on the piano until you can start hearing music in your head.
J D Flores Music he has had 2 years now... yikes
OsibTheSunbro I’ve actually gotten way better at improvising
hi please tell what you a doing with your left hand. Most grateful
Judith Armstrong hi Judith what help do u need?
A Singh he said with the left hand whatever he’s doing
Judith Armstrong he’s playing some chords
2:20 Hey, that's my chord proggression
Gotta love the John Cena lick.
So every chord progression you played is in the key of A minor???
For this lesson yes!
2:52 AND HIS NAME IS JOHHHHHHN CENA! (bu budu bu)
😂
Sorry someone copied your comment I’m sorry
@@Sheine_Leela U serious man 🤣🤣
Something that I don't understand....
In order to determine the minor triad chords (as per the Alfred's Basic Piano Library - The Complete book of Scales, Chords, Arpeggios & Cadences book), the minor key uses the Harmonic Minor scale which sharpens the 7th note (G) which in turn makes the V chord major.
Yet in the video, the artist identifies (and plays) the V chord as a minor chord, flattening the G.
Why is that?
It's called natural minor
Why did you choose v7 instead of V7 for the Am progression?
I got the pianote ad while I was watching this video
Aminor scale and 4 chords piano playing for beginners ???? is there any more easier than that ???
Could you show an Improvisation on Knight Moves by Chilly Gonzales. Playing the version of his Reintroduction Series seems to be just half the fun.
Great video but wish you would explain what you are doing in your left hand. You say there are no rules but don't you have to stay on beat. Love to know your secret for doing so while improvising.
2:52 JOHN CENA
nice lick, watch out for john cena
what if I dont know music theory? Do I have to learn that first?
Yes, you have. Improvisation is music theory but played (I think)
learning some music theory definitely helps (mainly circle of fifths, chord types/progressions, and possibly how modulations work) but I wouldn't say it's necessary
Is this improvisation on the 12 bar blues? it sounds like blues.
Hey Paul! Yes the chord progression is actually the 12-bar minor blues progression. Because all the chords are minor.
@@PianoteOfficial wow Thanks for replying! Y'alls videos are exceedingly helpful. So forgive me if i sound like I dont konw what I'm talking about (I dont haha). Once again great video!
how do you know which black notes sound good to play??
It depends on what scale you're playing in. For example the A minor or C major scale hasn't got any black keys so they will sound weird if u play them while playing in the key of a minor or c major. But let's say your playing in the key of e major or c sharp minor they you can use the black note's that are in that scale and they will sound good.
Also im sorry if that was confusing 😅 iff u come back to this comment in a couple of months then u will probably understand
I can't keep up the rythm any advice on that?
Play with a drum track. Google something like "drum groove 80bpm" and find one you like
Your technique is very nice to understand. Thanks for your honest teaching.Goutam mitra India Kolkata
please write why musitions wear hat indor?

I take piano lessons and my teacher is mostly focusing on just learning songs
Is he going to start teaching me stuff like this? Tell me with your experience
Just ask your teacher if they can start teaching you this type of thing.
I don’t recommend this for beginner. Maybe for those who are about to graduate, being a beginner I mean. Instead go to Lisa Witt’s video and check it out, her’s is “feasible” for you.
Agreed. I'd call this solidly intermediate. "Up a minor third, down a perfect fourth" isn't beginner work, especially in an improv capacity.
Anyone else here thought of John Cena?
I did but I also read your comment before watching so was expecting it lol
Unfortunately piano improv is not taught by Pianote. I asked. And there isn't much instruction from Mr. Leibel either. Nice video here however.
Too much for a beginner .....
Oh sorry about that Sheila. We do have other imrpov lessons here:
