  • In which I review the Safari Pedals Rabbit Tape plugin!
It’s a fun pedal. I did what I usually do here: I had fun playing with myself.
    Behold!
    Buy it here: www.safaripedals.com
I used a Line Audio CM4 for the talking head portion of my video, and a Shure SM57 for the part where I was inside my computer.
While I recover from the flood that destroyed my studio, I have a GoFundMe set up to help alleviate some of the gargantuan financial burden as requested by a fellow Time Preservationist. Here it is:

The only plug in for tape recording that I need is the cassette player itself… still got a stash of old cassettes of all my old music from that old Columbia House subscription.

Hahahaha! Oh man, Columbia House was my very first terrible decision!

Well... If I wasn't already an ardent subscriber and periodic donator and fan boy and admirer of your wit and expertise, I would be all these things the moment you actually LIFTED YOURSELF OFF YOUR CHAIR to let one rip. To my sensibilities, this was one class act. I am bowing to you as I write this. Your courage and perseverance to deliver the goods is awe-inspiring.

I thought of that right at the last minute in an Ode to Daniel. Hahaha.

I wonder how many of the younger guys had the "tune in Tokyo" reference go over their heads. Thanks for reminding me of those memories, lol. Wow.
I learned how to use reel-o-reel recorders when I was 8 years old on a couple Ampex 1100 series tape decks, and then shortly after, my Dad got a couple new Akai 4000-DS tape decks. He passed away when I was 14 and his taping studio became mine. I made some skits with my friends, including sound effects and music, besides mix tapes. In the later 1980's I was married and had my own place, and my own studio, with a dual cassette deck, the 2 Akais, a turntable, CD player, Realistic mixer, a 15 ban equalizer, and they were connected by a router box so that I didn't have to keep moving wires around for different recording set-ups. I also had a nice Sansui receiver and 4 speakers. So there's my background, which began in 1972.
This plug-in brings back memories. I would suspect younger people might use higher settings to emulate what they believe was the sound of tapes back then. Us old farts might just "enhance" recordings with lower settings to replicate what we remember was actually there. Both my reel-to-reel and cassette decks were direct drive rather than having belts, so that would reduce the wow. I suppose people who had belt driven units would remember there being more wow. This is a really nice plug-in. Your laughing during the demonstration indicates your memories of such detriments. Yes, I remember them too, but usually with someone's boom box. The flutter is a "thing" I forgot about. If heads got dirty or something happened to the tape....there it would be. Nifty plug-in for memories, and maybe even some sound design for films.
I still have some cassettes that I made to a friend of mine who moved to another part of the State when he graduated from high school. I also have a cassette of skits I made, with sound design. He sent them back to me years later, knowing what kind of sentimental guy I am. Today, I'm a filmmaker, which is just an extension of my "sound only" story telling. And I actually found someone to marry me!! LOL.

Hahaha. You, a nerd, found a wife! Hahaha. Me too!
That’s so cool to hear about your history starting with tapes. I was sorry to hear of your father passing when you were 14. But yes, you nailed it with this comment.
And “tune in Tokyo”. Hahaha. I agree, I wonder how many young people know which dials I’m dialing with my fingers! Hahahaha.
      Cheers, man!

    William,
I think that "tune in Tokyo" generated a bit of flutter!
Perhaps you need to visit Dr. Fielding again to adjust your garble.

Interesting. I am surprised that German guy didn't ask what a plug-in is. "Und vhat ist ein plog-in?"
Regarding the features of the plug-in, I am not seeing one essential element. Tape hiss. Wow and flutter were a thing, but when I was mixing sounds on cassette tapes in the 1980's, tape hiss buildup was my biggest frustration.

      @TheRecordist  3 месяца назад

      Hahaha. Love it!
You’re correct. There’s no hiss on this plugin. But it’s also very inexpensive. I thought maybe some viewers (who want some of that cool tape junk and don’t have much money) might like this as an option.
Either way, it’s a cool plugin.
