Thank you! My battery ends were corroded too due to leakage. I was able to pull them out (there is a stop that needs flattening to get out) used Emery sandpaper to sand the plates and the springs separately. They now work like a charm.
I have 4 wii remotes that have lasted over 12 years and I have been using them ever since I was 4, and all four of them have just died at the same time. Too many memories with those remotes that I don’t want to lose so I hope this works
I fixed six wii remotes that would not power on without cleaning them or opening them up in a couple of minutes each. Over time the metal plates with the bump on them (positive battery connection) get slightly bent backwards and the batteries are not making contact with the plates. Take a small screwdriver and gently pry each plate towards the center of the wii remote battery chamber. It doesn't take much movement but may take a couple of tries. Then pop your batteries back in and the remote should light up.
I had taken my Wii remote apart multiple times and cleaned everything with IPA but the remote still didn't work (no power). I had given up. But then I heard of cleaning the battery contacts with white vinegar. I had already done this with IPA and the terminals didn't look that bad but I thought I'd give it a try. I cleaned the ones on the motherboard (using a q-tip dipped in vinegar) and the ones just inside the battery compartment (removed them and soaked in vinegar for 10 minutes). Bam!! It worked! Thank you sooooo much! 😁
Hi can i use white cooking vinger insted do you think it will work. Cause my remote is in prestige condition it just doesn't turn on at all. With all new battery and all cleaned with ipa. And how to remove the battery contacts thats not on motherboard. I have tried to pry it out it just won't budge from its place.
By prestige do you mean perfect condition? Can you see corrosion on the battery contact? If not, it’s probably more of a sync problem which you can address easily with other tutorials. Vinegar worked great on mine. I didn’t take off the battery contact from the motherboard, I just soaked it in a small container without the motherboard touching the vinegar.
Hi the only issue that I have with my wio remote is that I need to press the A button a bit harder than usual and the dpad in order for it to register on my wii. Do you think taking the remote apart and cleaning it will work?
This still works great for your wii remotes! Been playing with it since 2009 I think🤔. I've even fixed the Wii guitars with these old hacks for fixing Wii remotes and accessories that are on youtube. Such a great help!
thank for share with us! great video! never opened one wiimote controller before until now. I found a yellow stain in the circuit and cleaned with alcohol and the wiimote is working again!!

Nice information. But i have a question. Does it work for WII remotes that have been put down for a long time? My remotes stopped working cause i haven't played them in years. And the batteries in them likely went bad cause i can feel some oily gunk around them. So would cleaning the remote similar to this work?

Anyone else having trouble with sensors/remotes? I haven't 2 wiis and a brand new remote. I can press the buttons on remote on both console's but can't get the hand Pointer thing to pop up at all.
I have the original sensor and a new sensor. The sensor worked the first time I tried after syncing the remote but now it just won't work at all. Great start to my homebrew journey ha. FFS.
Guys, I have a problem. When my friend tries to join P2, the cursor on the screen does not pop up when we’re playing multiplayer games, comment below to help out.
Humm..... my method: go to home screen press the red button on the back of the wiimote, open the battery shell (but not the battery) you see a red button there then open the sd card case on the wii and you should see a red button now... At the same time press the red button on the wii and the wiimote, then aim the wii sensor from wiimote to the sensor

For somepeople who don’t have the screwdriver all I did was used some canned air and sprayed out the battery area and it worked
Ammonia works really well without so much scrubbing
Any tips for battery corrosion?

You should most likely scrub the power button on the wiimote.
Take the batteries out
