@@rodames1089 I cant believe IM saying this, but buying a 5D mark ii with magic lantern will get get you the same thing a $5000 r3 without the overheating
Isn't that the reason why we shoot RAW? To get the best details and ABLE to grade the footage far beyond the baked in h.264?? Plus this test is to show DETAILS not the grading :)
Yes that is true. But I have a feeling that you could have gotten the h.264 to look a little better if you had put in some energy in to that as well. A fair comparison would be when you shoot h.264 in a way that you don't have to push the grading too much in post and then try to match the RAW to that grading to see how much better that is. Don't you think so?:) I hope you get what I'm trying to say.
Raghav91 Totally understand where you're coming from, but the purpose of this test is to show (1)how detailed RAW is compare to h.264, (2)what the 3x crop image look like, (3)how well highlights and shadows can be recovered. Trying to match a Lightroom graded RAW image to a Magicbullet graded low-rez h.264 defeats d whole purpose of shooting RAW. Trying to also match a MB graded h.264 to a LR graded RAW image is unfair (LR will 100% out perform MB). I knew i couldnt cover every single test which is why i went for the more important test and also stated " This is not a scientific test"
He applied sharpening to the raw, and did not to the h264. That's where most of the "magic" comes from. IF you some other comparison vids on vimeo there is no such sudden change in sharpness at all.
@@aronsch3488 if you want to take video canon has cine cameras. why they should sell cheap cameras that includes all for you? what did you do for canon?
Dood McMan that's the whole point - you're ABLE to process them differently. you can't make H.264 look as good, it's just not a flexible editing codec. it's a great finishing one, and should be used as such.
The crop mode was actually wider in width (2048) compare to full mode (1920). Think of it like filming 1080p on a 7D is same size as filming on a 5DIII. Benefit of crop mode is it triples the focal length of your lens with same quality or more than 1080p. Black magic camera has a small sensor but still outputs 2.5k footage
The 6D will be a huge improvement over the 550D, especially in low noise performance (higher ISO's with less noise). The 5D mark iii is a lot better but the 6D is still a great camera.
this might seal the deal on buying my next DSLR, I hardly take photos these days I find video far more rewarding. Really nice shooting, thanks for sharing
Oh my god ... you can zoom in 3x and still have perfectly usable 1080p footage in most instances. Thanks so much for comparing. I love the sharpness of the Raw footage. Amazing to see what's possible with the 5D III. I'd give 5 thumbs up for your video if I could. :-)
I'm so late to the party, I just bought a second hand Canon Mark iii 5d and I'm learning about them. It's my first DSLR and this video looks amazing. The 5D Mark III is a pretty good video camera, but I find the footage quite soft and lacking in detail. It's a shame because the colors look so good with Magic Lantern.
Looks awesome! I don't understand what the crop X3 is about. How can you have a bigger image after cropping a smaller one? Or do you mean that ML allows for an in camera digital crop of the area? I've never used ML on a 5dm3 and don't remember that available for the 2 if that's what it is.
