Once you go down the rabbit-hole of fude (artisan-made japanese brushes), it's really hard to go back to 'normal' brushes, as it were. Sonia G is basically the queen of fude on our side of the ocean. She has what is probably the largest collection of brushes I've ever seen and her blog is a gigantic resource for tips and tricks for using/maintaining them.

I should probably look up the best maintenance for them. While I was pulling information about the brushes I saw she advises to wipe them on a microfiber towel between washes to remove excess product lol.

Thank you for this review. I’ve been thinking of the soft concealer, but I think I’ll skip. Just s gentle nudge: fude (brushes) is pronounced FU-THE (like the English word “the”, e.g “the awesome hautmess tom”)😊 I’m sure you already know, but it’s a Japanese word (筆) meaning “brush”.

Thank you for letting me know! I cut out several more tries of me saying FUDE incorrect and decided to just throw the word on the screen! Yeah and I think that you could go without the concealer brush, unless it was just time for an upgrade! ❤️

So nice to get a review of these! Don't own any brushes from her but have heard stellar things! Also can I just say I love that as soon as I saw this look I knew you'd used the Hela palette! Was v proud of myself.

I think trying the one that would be most useful to you would be the way to go! No need to commit like I did! Haha! What an eye!! I hadn’t used it in a while! I’m so glad I did!!

The Smooth Buffer Brush looks really nice, and it sounds like the perfect match for the Chantecaille powder (which I adore and use every day). Anything to give me more of that bluuurrrrrr. 😍

I do use the Classic Base for foundation...when my Jumbo Base is dirty lol. But I tend to prefer the Jumbo Base. The one time I grab the Classic over the Jumbo is if I'm using a more watery/serumy foundation product. It's easier to buff into the skin.

I love my Sonia G brushes. I got the kiyaki travel set and though I haven't had a chance to use them much for travel, I use them all the time, despite the small handles. It has the mini base, which fits my tiny face just perfectly. My other sonia brush is the builder 2, which is the best brush for stubborn shimmers. It's very precise and I love it for the inner corner/inner lid. It breaks up hard pan. It has saved so many inferior eye shadows. I tell anyone who will listen to get that brush. This video gave me some ideas about how I might use some of the brushes I already own, like the mini base, in a new way (for cream blush).

I may have to checkout the builder 2! That sounds really nice and you’ll have to report back if you try the mini base for blush!

I am exactly the type of person you were talking about loving but struggling with finishing powders, cream blush and bronzer! I have a beautiful collection of Wayne Goss and a few Sonia G eye brushes, but still very drugstore with most of my face brushes. This video was so helpful to narrow down which ones to start with! Also, I adore the shirt you’re wearing today. 😍

Face one is similar to the smooth buffer but is a little larger. I use Face 1 over the smooth buffer,. The finish you get is perfect, The eye brushes are a game changer,

Thanks for this video. I bought a cheaper set of travel brushes from her and have fallen in love with at least three out of the five, but the handles are very short. I am looking to buy a couple of her sets in the regular format. I love my Rephr brushes too and a zoeva set of natural hairs which are really good, but the quality of Sonia G. is definitely higher. And my tool purchases I exclude from my ‘stay under 15 products added to my collection for 2022’ consumerism control effort, so it’s all good!

I'm glad it was helpful for you! I also don't really include tools in my budget for beauty because I don't buy them that often. Instead of buying her sets I would try to figure out which of the brushes have the shapes you like because I don't believe that buying her brushes in sets gets you any kind of discount. And that way you'll avoid/prevent buying brush shapes you don't need. That's just a suggestion tho, follow your heart! xx

Love this review! I have wanted to get the jumbo base for ages and I have waitlisted - your review helped confirm that buying would be a good decision. Would be interested in knowing your favourite eye brushes too.

So I haven’t dedicated as much time to eye brushes as I have to these face brushes but if you were interested I could definitely go through the ones I use the most on my eyes! I just feel more utilitarian when it comes to eye brushes haha

I'm kinda cheap so most of my "nice" brushes are all Sigma. They've been a welcome upgrade from Morphe. (I bought a Morphe set when I was languishing at home with busted feet in autumn of 2020 and thought I was being fancy because I'd never had "real" makeup brushes before.) I would like to get some of the Rephr natural hair eyeshadow brushes eventually!

    • @hautemesstom
      @hautemesstom  2 года назад +1

I’ve not tried sigma brushes I went from Morphe to Wayne Goss! Lol but I’ve heard so many good things about sigma! I’m very pro whatever works for the user for sure! But I think a nice tool, because of its longevity, can be a worthy investment! Rephr does a ton of sales throughout the year so you’ll definitely be able to snag them inexpensively!!

    • @ayceleijae

Megan Rephr always has 50% off sales, I think right now you can choose a bundle of 3 for half off, it would be a good time to try the shadow brushes, I own them and they are so good!

I don’t wear enough cream shadows to warrant that (I say as I’ve been getting more into cream shadows 🙄) but I still recommend if you do pick any up to try to be picky about them. The whole set may not be worth it to you!
