I remember when I was 9 years old meeting this 18 year old on summer vacation. We were really attracted to each other (I know, crazy), but I had very strong emotions for him that I thought were love. Thankfully, my parents were very wise and picked up on it before things went too far. I wanted to be with him, and I never forgot how strong my feelings were at just 9 years old. When I raised my own kids I was super cautious who they got close to, even at a young age.

I was groomed at 14 by my crush who was 24 at the time and my fam knew and did nothing, they liked him and as long as he looked after me they didn't care much even tho he expected me to act like an adult and attend nightclubs while trying to to be sophisticated way beyond my age, that alone was hard on a 14 year old to handle. We lasted only 2 years and I kinda outgrew him and what he expected from me and I started dating boys my own age... I didn't know what grooming was either, not back in the 80's anyways, it was kinda acceptable behind closed doors unlike today's standards!!

I mean to be fair he didn’t have sex with her or even try to get her to have sex. He never sent her sexual pics and never asked her to send any to him, by her own admission. But he never tried to get her to do anything sexual when she was a minor which shows crazy restraint... Especially after she started sending him then unsolicited. That said completely inappropriate. 10000% percent. No coach needs to be texting kids one on one like that. He clearly crossed the line, I'm just not sure he started it with those intentions. I would never let my daughter have 1:1 texts with grown men though.

She also responded with but we can never be together you have a special relationship or something, he responded something along the lines of I don’t think I found the one yet. Furthermore as a grown man he should know better than to play with the emotions of a 14 year old. He kept those texts going knowing how she felt and said things like I’m so miserable without you or whatever.

    • @chrismzaino

It seems like he also knew the impact he had on this her psyche & he didn’t want to lead her into depression. Early on he seemed like he was trying to be a protective and loving dad type. He had multiple off roads, but the further things got the more he could hurt her - which it seems he didn’t want. It does seem like she became a bit of a drug for him at some point too. Him trying to call things off but coming back could be because he saw/was told how that hurt her or because he felt he was missing that strong drug of constant attention. Bad situation, good it didn’t escalate further.

Also, I dont think he kept leaving and coming back. I think she was texting him regularly, and he would ignore it for months then every now and then reply so he's not a complete asshole. So the times he replied, she considered that to be him coming back to her.

Way to turn it around and victim blame. Regardless of what she did, he was still an adult and had a role educating children. If what you said was true, he definitely should have taken a proactive roll in correcting her behavior but it stroked his ego. He also encouraged it by claiming he had feelings for her. Bottom line, he handled the situation with gross misconduct either way.

My mother and her roommate would invite my middleschool classmates over to their house on Friday and Saturday nights, supplying us all with alcohol, it often would get inappropriate as these 2 older women were drunk with 12 and 13 year olds. I actually got injured one time and my mothers room mate gave me percocets and put me into her bed so I would be safe when people came over to party that night. IShe hopped in bed with me that night after the party, it had been building for a while, but that night she had finally taken advantage of all of the lack of people who cared whether or not I was having sex with her. Another today's victim? Honestly, nobody care about this kind of ranting.
I find that person horrible. She does not hesitate and try to destroy someone that did not hurt her by using the latest society fads and obsession about sex for some strange reasons. Truly an horrible little person. No wonder everybody starts being very careful nowadays. They could meet this kind of nasty character eventually.

To assume that he would’ve pursued you sexually if you went to Disney is very presumptuous. Aside from having inappropriate communication with a underage girl, I can’t really pinpoint the grooming that took place. Perhaps you were smitten and he should’ve had enough sense to cut off whatever forms of communication that went beyond coach/ player. I don’t mean to interrogate you on your experience but something about your story doesn’t quite sit well ..

You hit your puberty and ran with it. Now you’re a victim. You came on to him, now you’re the victim. The coach is equally at fault, but for a different reason.

It sounds like you groomed yourself here miss. You dangled yourself in front of the guy and put the temptation there, but he never followed through so how is that grooming? You're the girl who betrays when you don't get what you want. Thats what happened there. The guy let it go on too far but he didn't groom you.

It sounds like she was grooming him.... i hate hearing about chicks that develop crushes and lead on the guys..... and then blame the guys. He didnt try anything sexual with her. She fkin started the interaction and the sexting!
Sure, he could have shut her down. But dont call it grooming because he was playing along. You did it. You had fun doing it. Stop making him into a criminal.
