TOSHIBA A665 take apart video, disassemble, how to open disassembly

  • Hi!
No music. No talking. Just work.
If you are taking your TOSHIBA A665 laptop apart be careful and wear an anti-static wrist band or use other anti-static device. If you need to change a LCD usually you don't have to take screen out of a laptop. You can leave it on a laptop and watch the last part of the video where I am taking LCD apart. If you need to change a keyboard, you don't have to take all bottom screws out. There are usually some marks, like a keyboard picture, on a case bottom. If you need to put a laptop back to work be aware of screws. They are different and you better remember or mark them somehow to insure that you will put them back in to a right place.
Some laptops I take apart first time, so don't be serious on my time and performance.
If something got broken - ooops, it's your fault.
Believe me, some parts in your laptop are already broken, you just don't see that.
So, just watch this video and fix your laptop.
    Have fun and good luck!!

This was INVALUABLE as I tried - and succeeded - in fixing a recurring overheat issue with my A665-6070 machine. Turns out, there was enough fuzz on the vanes of the exhaust fan output to assemble a new cat from scratch! Before the fix, the CPU temp utility was reporting temps in the 90's (with thermal shutoff around 100). Now, it's humming along with CPU temps in the 50's! Spectacular! Thank you again! (Glad I had a second computer to watch your video while I disassembled the laptop!)

Hi thanks so much for sharing this. My A665 was getting hotter and hotter. Thanks to you I was able to clean the exit vent and also to drill above the ventilator. I am convinced that this grid should have been opened. Now my computer is keeping under 60°C when I play!
Goodbye the shunting down due to overheating! You saved me from buying a new computer so again, a huge thank you!!!

Owned this laptop for 3 years. Last cleaned the dust off 3 years ago! Laptop started to get kernal error with graphics chip. Tore apart and blew away all the dust from fins. Also put new thermal paste for cpu and nvidia chip surfaces. Temps are now at 44C for graphics chip and 50C for all 4 cores under light to moderate use. I was getting 55C graphics and 60C cores prior to cleaning dust. This is a capable machine. I run Sony Vegas, Solidworks, and other heavy software without any issues.

Thank you! A label from somewhere deep inside my computer came loose and got into the fan. Terrible racket! Following your directions, I got deep enough into it to fish the paper label out. I hope my new Toshiba doesn't have useless labels inside that can come loose!!

Super! I was working on a A665 with no power except for a few seconds if you pressed the play button for the dvd. Pretty sure it was going to need a new motherboard. I watched this video and took off they keyboard, pressed the power ribbon in better and now it has viruses which is way better than not booting!!! Thank you.

    Hi Ariel!
What you need to do first is figure out is it shut down randomly or because of some reason?
What do you mean by battery sticks out? Does it placed properly and can't be easily removed from it's place?
Does it shuts down only while on battery or also when plugged in to outlet?
Do you play some game while it is shuts down.
Usual reason for shutting down is a dirt in a heatsink and fan. Or when fan failing, system doesn't cool down properly and getting shut off...

2:38 so that fucking screw was the reason I couldnt get the top off my laptop! I never would have thought to pry off the keyboard, it looks like it is molded in one piece with the top shell! Thanks for this video, there are so many things wrong with my old machine - power socket loose and wobbly, fan probably clogged with dust, thermal paste probably mostly gone ...

Hi, there is only 4 ways.
First is professional. If you can solder than you know what to do..
    2. Cut old non working. Cut and attach new one. Should work, but I do not recommend this method.
    3. Go to somebody who can solder. (that what I would do)
    4. Buy motherboard with good everything and DC jack. But it is way expensive.
    Have a good luck!

You did a tear down video on a Toshiba a665. The specific thing i need help with is replacing the dc power cable. For some reason they decided to solder on the cable instead of making the clip where you can just pop it out. Have you replaced the dc power on the mother board? If so can you tell me how?

Mine kept crashing because of heat (more than 95°C!). I think there is a flaw in the design: the air grid over the fan is closed: just don't make any sense.
One week ago, I had enough. I took a cutter and opened the damned grid. It's not very esthetic but it changed everything. I know I can kiss goodbye to the guarantee but now I can actually use my laptop. If you dissamble it you could do it from inside for a better result.

    Hi,
I don't have this laptop anymore, so you will need to figure it out, based on this video or just find another video.
What you can do is try a canned air (just don't spin fan too fast) and it may do the work.
You can remove a palmrest and than fan will be more accessible.

My fan had a piece of tape in it as well as dust. Canned air would not have fixed that! Also, the vent (harmonica shaped piece) gets dust stuck in the little slots. Don't short cut it with canned air unless you maybe do it every month or so to avoid build up.

Inspect the scissor mechanism and the button on the other side as well. The scissor mechanism is going only one way in. You can risk it and carefully remove another f button and see how it is put together to fix your f10. Good luck with that, sometimes not really fixable if plastic pieces are broken. The good news is that the keyboard is removable and costs about $15-20 on eBay.

C'mon, it is pretty easy laptop.
Even if screws all mixed up.
If it will be some HP probook with so many different screws and so on, I will be screwed :)
