      Source: I work for the company that designed the engine you see in the video.

    • @lolsovs
      @lolsovs 3 года назад +43

      The engine may become unbalanced in multiple ways. An engine may typically have a chain at the back driving the hydraulic system (fuel injection and exh valve are hydraulically operated) and a couple of vibration dampers - a spinning shaft with an imbalance on. If these vibration dampers get out of timing (they are timed with the engine), you will have massive vibrations. Some engines also have a chain and dampers at the front as well.
      You may also have severe vibrations in certain rpm ranges, but the control system is designed to accelerate through these ranges as quick as possible. Another way is if you pull out too many pistons and run the engine, you loose the constant downward force on the crankshaft bearings from the compression/ignition and, again, vibrations - although this time your bearings are toast as well.

      I would have assumed its because of the extra power to weight and size constraints. Theyre turbocharged and still get extremely high efficiency, no need for extra strokes.

      If they did, I’m pretty sure one of the eliminations would be that one of the targets are near the engine, you turn off/sabotage the power restrictor in the engine as usual and turn the engine on at full power, then the pistons break off the connecting rods and the whole engine explodes.

      would likely sink the ship if it blows a cap or a rode, through the bottom or the side. The nice thing here is there is so much inertia it would take a min or so to reach top speed - plenty of time for fuel or air cut.
