  • Arriving in Newport, Northern Vermont, early Saturday afternoon, we went to the local farmer's market, to explore local products and mainly meet people. Soon after, we walked to the nearby downtown area where we soon joined a Chilly Cookoff competition - tasting 13 different chilly and getting to know the people. The last activity of the day was a bike ride on the Newport Bike Path and Beebe Spur Rail Trail, which took us along scenic path along the lake all the way to (almost) the Canadian border. In the following morning, we hiked to the top of Mount Pisgah and experienced the wonderful views of Lake Willoughby down below. It was a steep hike and we were lucky that the rain only start when we were almost back in our car. On our third day in the area, we drove south to the wonderful town of St. Johnsbury. The beautiful downtown consist of many impressive public buildings and amazing homes and gardens. After tasty lunch we continued to the Maple Grove Farms of Vermont which is a maple factory with small but interesting museum and gift shop. But the highlight was the St. Johnsbury Public Library - a beautiful building inside and out. The following day, we drove to Jay Peak ski resort and were treated with scenic fall views along the area's roads. We then stopped by several covered bridges of the area. The last day was dedicated to exploring Newport once more (for Zohar) and playing Pickleball and Mah Jongg (for Mindy). One highlight of the day was a visit in Pick & Shovel, a local "hardware store" which sell literally everything to the town's people and everyone in the county.
