- Top 10 Best Flies for New Zealand trout, well at leas my recent top 10 for the central north island. If you coming to NZ with a fly rod, consider bringing some of these patterns. but more importantly work on you casting accuracy and how you manage your line and fly once delivered as this is where most people come unstuck, it doesn't matter what you tied on if your cast scared the shit out of your fish
Here are the flys i love

thanks for showing us the flies! The classics like the pheasant tail and the adams parachute are great everywhere. I love the foam flies and the 101 looks great. Most people recommend their favorite flies but you went the extra mile describing how you fish them! Thanks mate!
Mate your videos are epic. Watch them religiously
Awesome man, would love to see your fly box setup and the streamers you use. I think a video showing the other gear you carry (chest pack, tools, accessories) would be a nice addition to the channel.
Thanks so much for sharing, and please continue, especially how you rig these flies in detail along with presentation.
Awesome video. Planning a fishing trip up north. If I can even get on Orvis again I'm going to order these flies!!
Nailed it mate! Fantastic knowledge and top tips.
Good info mate. My go to set up is #10 beadhead Hare & Copper with a #14 dropper, more often than not using a Pheasant tail. The main river I'm fishing 9 times out of 10 the fish are taking the #10
Awesome Gareth thats a great help nice to hear lots of references to the south island
we need to see your fly box, eh who else would like to see it like the post so he sees!
Good stuff! My all time favourite fly has got to be the hare and copper. Ultra easy to tie and works like a charm. Cheers bro and good vid
Love your videos mainly bc of the awesome fish but also the information im from upstate ny in us and watch your videos daily
Bomb content! The cadilac pheasant tail doesn't go a miss either if you want something more compact to the 101 or regular pheasant tail 👍 Nailed so many fish on that. Again cheers mate
Brilliantly presented!
Great vid .. your advice works for all NZ fishing locations .. have sent link to a few mates :)
Good patterns! Was just there three weeks ago. I tied some hare and copper flies jig style and caught three fish on the same fly. Very satisfying vs. always fishing what the guide provides. Cheers mate!
Very nice!
Awesome dude, Good vid, straight to the point, lovin it.
I got back from NZ a few weeks ago, I would've seriously struggled on the rivers around Taupo without those 101s. I was surprised by the flow and depth in places. None of the flies I took with me could get anywhere near the bottom.
Thanks a lot for making this vid happen!
Cheers from Germany
Floatant on an unweighted nymph - solid tip right there 👍 Thanks
Accuracy and delivery; great vid
You know most fly fishers are gear junkies and love these videos 👍🏼
good stuff man this helped me out heaps , all the best.
No worries cheers
Thanks for sharing..
Keep up the Great Work...
I’ve always wanted to know what you catch all those monsters on! Thanks!
Nice job man. Thank you for this video
Awesome Content Sir!!! Keep it Up !!!
cool comments on fly change and the lake stories. helps an amateur like me. :)
Great video mate.
Awesome vid mate
We are waiting for you in Patagonia. I'm sure you gone like here!! Cheers
I’m coming
Amazingly these are almost all the same go to flies for Colorado! When you comming back to the states?
Awesome job man👍🏾
Thanks
Great video mate, only thing I'm missing is the "how to make"
BTW Did You know that the trout in NZ are from the London river Wandle?
Hey I just commented on a video from months ago... how do you go about dissecting a river and finding fish in a large wide and seemingly featureless river
Winter here. Time to get on the vise!
Great info bro!
What's the blue body material on the Prince UV?
Great video love it
Thanks!! Helpful!
Great stuff!
Say, what size is the 101?
Thanks for the info really helps
What's your leader setup, and typical breaking strain used..
I visited the South Island 3 years ago and fished it for 2 months, caught almost all my fish on a bead head pheasant tail nymph, as you say, it is all about presentation.
Almost all flies LOOK like food to a trout, but only well presented flies ACT like food to a trout.
Love your vids, keep up the good work. I will be back one day.
Luckily I've got pocket money and a H&F store near by! Any video about fishing is a good video, post them all!
Awesome video
The 'peril of peek, march brown, hardy's favourite, mrs Simpson, black-knat' were me favourite, I've tried sum those man dem r beauties..early mourn.late afternoon fishin' - choice vid...cuz.. awesome 👍
Have you fished the mohaka?
You should try to catch some trout on some mouse patterns. If feel like that would be some sick content! Might be tough to film but maybe even throwing them at night for big browns. Anyway, great video man!
He's fishing the Taupo region,
there are barely any big mice eating browns...
well dang I had no idea
Definitely nailed it
Cheers mate
cool flies man, you ever tie your own?
Total aside question …
You use a wool strike indicator .
Understanding that natural wool has natural oils ( lanolin ) .
Do you add any additional floatant , or do you let the natural material do the job without it ?
Thanks in advance …
Love the content !
Hey Scott the lanolin will work for a period of time but to increase the life of the indicate I initially apply floatant and the re apply when needed . Cheers

Thanks Gareth … love the content !
Keep em coming 👊🏻
Klinkhammer works better than Parachute Adams with a nymph tied off it. A great fly tied with a pink post for visibility in rough water.
The Blow Fly is interesting. Where can I purchase The Blow Fly you spoke about? Is Shawn Andrews on Instagram or other social media?
Catorgory 3 flys are linked in the description 🤙
Maybe a follow up could be how to present your fly, how to manage your line etc...
Cheers Gareth
Case in point...pheasant tails are all you really need
cool tank
You should of added the classic NZ pattern the dads favourite
Tied for first, green cicada, brown cicada, black cicada #dod

Can you put subtitles in Spanish? They will have many more visits
