This recording has the best celesta tone out of the ones I have heard, and I like the overall dark coloration of the orchestra. It fits the otherwordly mood of this composition really well. And as other commenter said, the distortion is unfortunate!

I saw the nutcracker last night in Greenville, SC performed by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and the international ballet. Awful experience-the orchestra was completely covered under the stage and was amplified through the audio system. No color, no dynamics, no balance...just a tinny, flat sounding score. I can’t figure out why they would ever do such a thing. The dancing was beautiful, but importance should not be placed on just one aspect of the composition-one would not exist without the other. I do not recommend that venue or performance to anyone who appreciates music. Why the conductor would allow such a thing is beyond me.
