  • The August 2024 document release from / retromechanix features 101 pages of material with 61 pages of images covering the following subjects:
Convair Old Rippy Missile - A brochure dated June 9, 1945 describing the "Old Rippy" ship-to-ship pulsejet-powered missile study. A ship-to-shore variant is also described at the end of the document. The original brochure was faded but the scanned text and drawings can be made out with some effort. This 15 page PDF features 8 pages of illustrations.
Douglas C-132 - A selection of photos and documents concerning the Douglas C-132 turboprop transport, which reached an advanced state of development before being cancelled in 1957. The PDFs include recent photos of the display model, flutter tests, and a description of the aircraft along will a cancellation letter. In total, there are 17 pages of material with 11 images. More C-132 photos will follow next month; special thanks to Alan Griffith for providing this material.
Douglas Model 1332/MX-1897 Low Altitude Bomber Studies - Eighteen blueprints scanned from microfilm depicting a selection of Douglas Model 1332/MX-1897 low altitude bomber studies; I believe these date from around 1952. The configurations range from the relatively conventional to the very unorthodox. A two page description is also included.
North American XP-82 Wind Tunnel Tests NACA - A selection of documents concerning wind tunnel testing of the North American XP-82 by NACA Ames Aeronautical Laboratory. These documents include correspondence, an early XP-82 blueprint, and a selection of detail drawings to aid in the construction of the wind tunnel model, with dates ranging from March to July 1944. In total, there are 29 pages of material with 21 photos and drawings. More NACA XP-82 wind tunnel test documents will follow in the months ahead.
Vought P/A-14 Missile - Vought Progress Report no. 2 dated November 1946 covering research work accomplished on a study for an early air-to-ship missile with a 50 mile range. This missile received the internal V-355 designation at Vought. This is the only report I have on this missile, as Progress Report no. 1 was missing from the box and subsequent reports (if they exist) were also not available for scanning. This 20 page PDF features 3 pages of drawings and photos.

Retromechanix is scanning, restoring and publishing rare aerospace photos, illustrations and documents covering lesser known American aircraft from the first half of the 20th century, such as forgotten prototypes and secret projects which remained on the drawing board. These documents originate from various US government repositories, such as The National Archives, The Naval History and Heritage Command, The Air Force Historical Research Agency, and other institutions. We believe that the bulk of the collection has not been published before.
Every month, we are uploading at least 100 pages of material in PDF format. Previews of these documents can be viewed here on our RUclips channel. Patreon subscribers may choose to download the documents with photos and drawings reproduced at 150 dpi or 300 dpi, depending upon your subscription tier. By the end of the project, we estimate that subscribers will have access to an archive of over 20,000 pages of primary documents shedding light on secret aircraft projects, prototypes, and lesser known aspects of US aerospace history.
