So the pre-patch has already been mostly datamined and it is all about Azeroth's radiant echoes and memories of the past villains that had threatened to take over the planet. It is going to be based on multiple continents, we are going to be dealing with all the big guys from our past battles as well as getting NPCs related to it.
For example with Arthas being the final boss of Northrend, we are going to see titan keepers from Stormpeaks as well as likely seeing characters like Uther or Terenas and having to collect the Ashbringer or Frostmourne. We also got Ragnaros coming yet again but it does seem like the community is not too excited about this pre-patch event.
A lot of people criticised it as nostalgia bait seeing that the event itself is not really that robust or epic feeling as the Legion invasions we got for example. So let's look at what we had datamined, how the pre-patch is going to actually work and who are going to be the main villains.

But he’s not actually “coming back” for good.. Very misleading. It’s a “going back in time” event. After pre-patch arthas will be dead and gone again.

Big shame if yet again they don't give us the Gray item "Frostmourne" sword which was added way back in WotLK but never dropped for players, all they have to do is call it "replica Frostmourne" and put it literally anywhere in the game and players would go wild, Every DK, warrior, and paladin would be moging that.

100% nostalgia bait. It'd be one thing if this were the first time we were revisiting these moments in time... but we've had like four expansions already that double-dipped on past content, and one of them existed just to take every bit of nostalgia we had for the lore, roll it into a ball and then shove it up our butts. It's gettin' old.

Wow is dead for me. I have been keeping on lore vids and news. But I think I’m gonna stop doing that now. Just makes me kinda nostalgic in a bad way these days. I scratch my WoW itch with Ascension here and there now. New WoW just isn’t WoW anymore.

Could potentially also provide new lore as we seem to be getting visions of how Azeroth saw the Lich King for example, which might be different than our perspective.
Question is if Arthas soul was reduced to wisp by the pawn of Zoval (btw Sylvanas dentoate him like in Warcraft 3) then what about the part of Ner'zhul who in fact was the Lich King soulbound to the crown - frozen throne by Kil'jaeden? He is gone or alive as a spirit? Most of all i would like to see some inglourious basterds who will even if as a cameo return to action. Like Kael'Thas and Lady Vashj in Shadowlands. Seriously their comeback to storyline was good.
So instead of time walking to relive old content, bliz is having us memory walk?
This is better cuz memories are fragile, they can change or show completely different perspectives.
We see thru the eyes of the main bosses instead of ours.
Arthas purged what was left of Ner'zhul in the helm while he was frozen in the gap between WC3 and Wrath. Which then went on to get tortured by Zovaal before we end him.
Does anyone even remember Ner'zhul?

Ner'zhul was pretty much kill by Arthas before WOTLK event, in Shadowlands we finish some echos left, Ner'zhul is gone
This literally feels like "hmm people liked our OG bosses better than anything we have made recently. How do we bring them back?" With a bunch of blizzard guys around a water cooler. "Time travel? Nah did that already. What if we could watch it all from the worlds pov? The planet? Magma and water apinning around a star? Yea what if it had a soul?" And.....here we are
I reactivated and purchased the expansion for the purpose of playing the next expansion and the prepatch and get used again with the game again.I play just for the story,when something good comes .Last time i played seriously with some friends was on Legion because Illidan…yea,that guy is so cool.…i’ve been playing wow since 2008 and then till today free time got a lot less and less because family happens(wife,kids etc),some people will understand me 😅but with the little free time i have,i want to experience a good story
If they can retcon shadowlands by timelines or some mess I’m down for it. I did but didn’t like shadowlands. It had all the potential in the world to be epic, but they dropped the ball hard in a lot of places. Arthas deserved more than what he got in shadowlands. Garrosh deserved more. I think it would really benefit Blizz if they find a way to retcon and undo what shadowlands did.
It’s sad bc I really liked the zones of that expansion. Mostly…some more than others. My hope honestly going forward is that the story telling is better. That’s what they need to work on a lot. You have to deliver a solid story that keeps the lore and passion alive. It’s honestly crazy how we went through shadowlands and dragonflight with no losses. We have to lose someone meaningful and in a meaningful way to make an impact. I’m derailing a bit I know. But I’m hoping War Within raises the stakes across all factions. We can’t always win. We can’t always not lose someone bc then it feels empty to a degree. I think that’s one thing about FFXIV is the warrior of light always saves the day. They never lost main characters outside of the one chic and I apologize as I can’t remember her name it’s been too long. But we have to lose people and we have to bring in new characters. It can’t always forever been thrall and Jaina and such and such. Legion did a fabulous job of taking out meaningful characters. I think Tyrion got short handed though. I feel he deserved a better cinematic for his death bc of how big a character he really was. But that’s my two cents on the topic. Sorry for the rant.
How exactly did Arthas deserve more? I'd say getting sent to hell and having his soul turned into a weapon seems like a fitting end to me, what did he deserve a nice happy redemption arc along with Syl to? And Garrosh went out being Garrosh.
@@justinb7494 nah, I don’t think he deserves redemption at all. I just meant I think the cinematic or something could have been a bit more. Arthas was an evil ass at his core and there was no going back from the crimes he committed.
SL didn't really do anything though, it basically just said the last tiny bit of him is completely gone. And garrosh had a proper arc into madness and got a deserved death
Arthas finally completely obliterated as last fragments of his soul turn to dust with destruction of kingsmourne in shadowlands.

Warlords of Lordaeron alternare Arthas. Uther back in time saving Arthas like Garrosh did Alternare grom from demon cortuption. 😂
But in all seriousness you can't unless we redcon all of Shadowlands wich they wont do.
And that mess established he was reduced to a reccource then farthas-ed away. So not even a soul to stuff in a body.
You could only do time travel to stop og Arthas wich would redcon/change everything from there on connected to him.
Or oluck him from an alternate timeline.
WoW died with Cataclysm. I played WoW Classic until AQ Gates opened then I was done. Got full T1 and T2 gear. Minmaxing has been so optimized now the game isn’t like it used to be to be. Use to be adventures and exploring. Now it’s farming and scheduling your life around in game events or raids.

This game died when Arthas died the first time, not the second or third or fourth time he's been brought back and died again or whatever the bloody count is. WoW took a hard nose-dive right after WOTLK. The storylines were bland and hardly inspiring. The questing for this that and the other damn thing was just tedious and mind-numbingly boring. There is nothing in WoW that could compare to the feeling you got the first time you set foot in Icecrown. R.I.P. Crusader Bridenbrad
if im honest, i have little to no hype for War Within from what i've seen. I'm more interested in the next 2 expansions after war within purely based on what was briefly talked about at BlizzCon. I dont know why but im just not excited

I'm gonna go ahead and say before I even watch this that the lich king will either be some bs echo ghost or we go back in time. Lich king returning to modern wow would actually be cool. Blizzard doesn't do cool things anymore
"azeroths greatest hits" as memories would be a good intro for people - meaning War within pre-patch would be a great way to establish your character / the state of the world in terms of narrative even for new players / after exiles reach...
i stopped playing in cata. I wished i stopped playing after wrath. That was the climax, the end of warcraft 3 cliff hanger an culmination of the vanilla wow world threat. I just didnt have any intrest after that

Aren't we just going to relive all of these epic battles once Classic catches up? How many times must we be fed the same content with a different flavor of sprinkles added to it? Having been involved with this game since 04 and lost my way a few times, I gotta say this does not feel inspiring. Also, assuming that we will finally see the Void Lords is a bit premature. A giant helping of copium dashed with a pinch of hopium. I greatly regret my preorder decision.

i got a feeling like they want to create a new lich king, like they want to redo the lich king story, that's just a feeling and i think Anduin will play a big role in that if you see the trailer for the war within in the trailer and you see how Anduin raising the sword, it's clear they want to redo the story. They wanne fix the shadowlands story

Pre-patches have been rather mediocre since at least the SL pre-patch. It usually follows the same formula of familiar enemies or bosses from better days show up to get smacked down for a 1 off event, get a reskin mount or pet or toy then by the end of the event were told they are mostly defeated but secretly scheming off in the shadows to do... something? and then we never address it so blizzard can hype them up for a future 1 off patch

Nobody ever dies forever in Warcraft. Game universe is the dumbest and most ridiculous nonsense. Retail plays like a joke too like wtf is this overpowered gameplay bs and ridiculous bosses? Retail is unhinged where every game design choice has been the wrong game design choice.
