The vikings biggest problem on defense is Blake Cashman's absence. Him being the elite cover LB that he is makes teams not able to throw in between the numbers (specially short and intermediate) so they have to go for deeper and longer developing routes where the pass rush gets home Also we have to play Dallas Turner more (he will play more KOC said so)

When same hits the top of his drop, noones open, but while hes getting sacked it looks like 3 guys are "NFL" open. I am hoping that gets fixed but I think there are some timing issues and it would be good to see the vikings get back to some quick passing again like they had in the Giants game to open up some of these drives then go to mid our deep routes as the drive is sustained.

I think you’re pretty much right on. I think part of the issue is that Minnesota always goes after big offensive pieces, cuz that’s what people want to see. We need to do better scouting, drafting, and trading for good defensive pieces. I’ve been a fan for almost thirty years now, and it’s almost always the defense, more specifically, the pass-defense, that is the downfall.
LB Cashman being out hurts a lot. He is the "green dot" meaning he has a radio link to the coaches as he plays. He is the field general on D. he is big and fast. When he was not in (vs the Rams) the D was much worse. When he is back this will help a lot.
On the first half start with a range of 5 to 20 yards with fast passes to the center or sides with the occasional long pass! Combinations of passing and rushing on 1st and 2nd! Don't give the defense time to pressure! Use the clock! Kick some field goals! Expand the range on the second half, but keep the fast passes and combinations of rushing and passing! On the defensive side keep the QB in the pocket, pressure him from both sides, make him throw to the center!

Yeah we barely lost to Det, but it is an argument IMO keeping a team in the top 3/5 after two straight loses, including one to a below. 500 team. I think if they make the right moves by the trade deadline, I think they can get back on track. The secondary is still an issue, but the pass rush will get back on track. The 49ers lost 3 straight games last year but then made it to the superbowl. The Vikings will be fine, and if not, I do believe they have a bright future.
As a Vikes fan I'm glad we're doing a LOT better than where we thought we would be staring the season but let those 5 wins delude us for a bit and now we're crashing down to Earth. Even if we could throw JJ in I think we'd be in this same position. This team was a LONG way from winning a SB 2 years ago when KOC and Kwesi showed up. We have some more time to get there but it's nice to see we're trending in the right direction even with all the "luck" we've had. I agree winning a WC and getting bounced the next round is the ceiling for this team but if we finish with those 9 wins I'd call that a W. RIP KJ.
I agree with other commenters about the lack of diversity in the passing game. How many passes are thrown to the running backs? Sometimes you need many short yardage plays to beat an enemy. Tom Brady made his living that way.
Predicted to go 4-13 , with the easiest part of the schedule coming up. Already surpassing expectations, I just hope they develop the Rookies more on the defensive side with packages or game time
Minnesota's schedule is charmin soft for the rest of this season. Colts Jaguars Titans Bears x2 Cardinals Falcons Seahawks They will have 10-11 wins in hand before their final games vs GB and at DET.
There might be differences in how a pocket collapses depending on the O-Line. The Vikings O line is very weak inside so maybe that makes it impossible to escape by stepping up.
The issue with the pressure to sack ratio in college is you have Jayden Daniel’s who had the worst pressure to sack ratio and he looks just fine in the NFL
Honestly my biggest concern has been tackling. The defensive scheme has looked very weak these past 2 games, but the Vikings would have looked a lot better if the players could actually make tackles after the pass or beat 2nd/3rd string offensive linemen in the Rams game
The Lions have a tendency to make any defensive scheme look bad. Between the offense Ben Johnson has created and the perfect players they have for that scheme they're a nightmare for a defensive coordinator. As a Lions fan I've seen the Packers and Vikings have some great offenses over the years and it's nice to be able to return the favor for once.
It seems like KOC goes for the homerun every play. If he can implement pass plays that dont take 4.5 seconds to develop i think the offense will be just fine. Also his midgame adjustments have been a problem his entire time in MN, hes got to do a better job taking what the defense is giving.
I agree he struggles with adjusting - that’s why we always have a great 1st quarter and sometimes good 4th quarter- quarter 2 and 3 always stagnates which tells me he’s not adjusting to the defensive adjustments well
I noticed that when they were playing the Lions. I thought it was just because Minnesota figured Detroit wouldn't have much of a pass rush without Hutchinson but it seems they do it all the time.
Atleast Vikings did not blown off by the lions. And could’ve easily won if had more time. Let’s not panic! rams one was tough cuz they got puka and Kupp back,, let’s not forget rams were hot last year!
Really appreciate your channel and insight. Always objective and realistic. Your content is some of my favorite when it comes to football. Lions fan here and I gotta say the game against Minnesota has been one of my favorites this season because of the hype. Keep it up.
@ you’re one of the few NFL creators that actually makes insightful content and doesn’t regurgitate what everyone else says. i actively look forward to your videos. thank you for creating or else i wouldn’t have an opinion of my own 😂
@FootballAnalysis1 2 close losses... And they still put up great offense. They could easily be undefeated still... If the vikings are at risk then the bills, Ravens, KC, and Niners are pure garbage. Those teams have bigger holes than the Vikings do.
Just like last year, hopes are dashed by the injury bug. Really, every year it seems that for the Vikings to contend for a Super Bowl, they either need depth on the roster, or no injuries to marquee players.
Since the Blake Cashman injury, this defense really fell apart. Ivan pace is really having a sophomore slump and you can especially see it the last 2 weeks sadly
Vikings are excellently schemed if everything and their staff can stay together next year hopefully they can better fill the talent that the scheme requires to truly be elite ..and this is coming from a niners fan
The main issue is the absence of Blake Cashman. Interested in seeing if he practices Wednesday-Friday. From KOs comments coming off the bye, the team had no idea how serious his turf toe injury was, therefore no treatment for it over the bye, possibly costing him an additional week. Wonder if Cashman had plans over the bye that he didn’t want break by spending the week getting treatment. Ya never know…
I feel that "timing" has a lot to do with what's going on with the Vikings troubles meaning that when the penalties, dropped passes, missed throws, turnovers, etc. occur and penalties have lately been the worse. The players need to be more disciplined and another thing that would help is if B. Flores could change up some of his defensive schemes and try something new and or different.
Thank you! People are so quick to say oh people are getting missed but you have to watch film afterwards to see whats happening 4:10 is a great look. Sam hits the top of his drop where he should be ready to rip the ball and no one is open. A second later when verse is in his face 3 guys flash open. On TV it looks like he missed 3 wide open guys but when he was ready to throw no one was open. Unfortunately unless you dig around for the all 22 film, and see what hes seeing, it can be tough to see whats happening. I think think they neeed to dial up more quick hitters with 3 step drops to keep the defenses more honest
Pretty much covered all of it. Darnold isn't really a starting QB in the long run. Their defense is getting figured out and not adapting, and their offense stagnates for long stretches. That last fact is related to the first one. They can't rely on AJ for extended periods, since he will get hurt. It happens every year. Some team has a good start, people overreact and then people panic when they return to their level. No one outside of Minnesota expected much of the team for legitimate reasons. Water finds its level, as do teams.
They lost to the Lions because it was an even matchup. They lost last week because the refs were absurdly soft while also missing obvious fouls from the other team
i’m a fan of your channel and a texans fan so naturally, the last couple vikings games have been hate watches for me not to ignore the issues you brought up but in my eyes they only have one legit loss and that’s to the lions, they had a chance agains la but got hoed. the record is the record at this point but i think this team will still make the playoffs. that said i don’t think anyone outside of minnesota thought this team would win a chip this season in the first place
If Kirk Cousins was their quarterback, they'd be a Superbowl contender. They are not a Superbowl contender with Sam Darnold. You're seeing the drop off with your WR's because you lost a 4-time Pro bowl QB.
I'm don't think there is any reason to have a negative outlook on the Vikings right now. Most people had them as a 7-9 win team going into the season and they almost surely will surpass those expectations. The only issue with the Vikings long term is the lack of top end talent on the defensive side of the ball.
Man it sucks being a raiders fan. We cant do anything but play good defense. Our coaching is ass. Our qbs are ass. Man the broncos and chargers. We couldn't beat them or the panthers. I'm still loyal to raiders because of oakland.
Even in their losses, the Vikings at least look like a playoff team. The Eagles are another 5 win team that is a mirage. They have won three in a row, but they were Browns, Giants, and Bengals, all 2 win teams. They have the Jags and Cowboys, so the easy games aren't quite done. They then have 5 quality opponents in the 6 weeks after that.
I think we are also missing the self-inflicting penalties like illegal formations and false starts the Vikings are continuing to have that normally flip moment in games. We cant have 3 or 4 drives straight where we are 1st and 20 or 2 and 15
Really good breakdown. I really think Darnold is limited and holding this team back. Which is why we drafted JJ McCarthy in the first place. I also believe the defense is limited in what they can do. That said, I still think we finish second in the NFC North, as long as Love continues throwing it to the other team. For what many of us considered a rebuilding year, I'm ecstatic with our record so far.
Two losses and now we are saying the vikings are not competitive sorry that vikings barely didn’t beat the lions and got beat by one of the best offenses and also a bad penalty that stopped a potential over time
What is with you and worrying about the Vikings losing to 2 good teams? This the kind of fear id expect from losing to the Panthers, not the Lions and Rams. Godawful takes.
Curious what your thoughts are on KAM. His salary cap management has been great. His FA signing has been very good. His trades have been so-so. But his drafts have been awful (pending JJ and hopefully Turner).
The Vikings of old would dominate during the regular season losing no more than 2 games but come the NFC Championship or the Superbowl, they'd come up very short or be completely and utterly outclassed by other teams
I genuinely think the vikings defense has been our biggest problem these 2 losses (That and Sam not being able to go through his progressions). In both the lions and chargers game their offenses were allowed to throw practically as many times as they wanted for as many yards as they wanted. We have no secondary, and I really don't think Brian Flores is this mastermind people make him out to be, considering all he seems to know how to do is blitz. The man can't call any deep coverage or frankly any pass coverage whatsoever.
I think it's pretty easy. On that play the offense will always have a guy who stands behind the group that actually goes up for the ball in case it gets tipped. The Bears didn't cover that guy.
The Vikings are NOT struggling. They are just in mid-season form. This has been the one consistent about the Vikings for the last 20 years. C'mon, man!
The Vikings defense has been ass the past 2 weeks. They have been exactly what we thought they would be in the off season. Especially, a below average secondary.
I mean the lions game was a nail biter off the bye week and they had to play a HEALTHY rams team that Detroit didn’t 4 days after with an awful call. This was a rebuild year and they’re still 5-2 with Sam darnold. Regardless of how you spin it they’re playing better than most teams for what everyone expected.
I herd you say something about someone on the rams defense possibly rookie of the year. I would say go watch texans corner kamari Lassiter. He may not have crazy stats but he has been a shutdown corner this year
That step up and drop back flow that bflo is doing leaves holes, a quick cover mlb (cash) and more pass rush (?) will alleviate the pressure on the cbs. But, vikes be vikes... Offense, koc is not innovative. Sunday we will see....
I hope you’re right (vikes fan) but the L the Bears just took is soul-crushing. If anyone in the North misses postseason it will be them. Sure it was a close game against a good team on the road, but the sheer incompetence it takes to blow that game speaks volumes to the lack of character and culture in Chicago. Need that to get to the postseason.
yeah i think its hard to say that the packers will miss the playoffs and the bears wont simply because they are both good teams but the packers are 6-2 and the bears are 4-3.
@@Con.man.218 Ehh, the Bears have a goated defence and the packers don't. They have veteran recievers and a rockie reciever and qb and the pack doesn't. The packers have also had an easy schedule outside of the Texans and maybe eagles. The Bears have also had a sorta easy schedule, but teams like the rams, commanders, texans, and colts haven't been easy games either. I personally would fire Eberflus and the whole staff if they don't make the playoffs so they have something to fight for. All in all I think the packers are really good, but if there is one team that's an injury or two, or a trap game or two away from bombing the season it's them.
@@Garfieldforpresident2024 sorry that I had to come back to this comment man but the bears are SO cooked. Knew that loss against the commanders would snowball. Tough time for bears fans, you have my pity.
The Vikings were never supposed to be a great team this year. They have been for the first five weeks. The wheels may be coming off slightly but I'm confident they can make the playoffs and if they do this season is still a massive overachievement.
How far do you think the Vikings go this year? 🤔
Wild card round
wild card loss getting exposed by a more experienced team like the packers or the hot commanders
11-6 Probably win a Wild Card and lose in the Divisional if their Wild Card Team is like the Bears, Falcons, or Bucs

They will be just fine. To say they are struggling is an exaggeration.
Everyone loses after playing the Lions look it up...
Predicted to go 4-13 , with the easiest part of the schedule coming up. Already surpassing expectations, I just hope they develop the Rookies more on the defensive side with packages or game time
The Vikings Are Fine, We Have to Make Some Adjustments 🤷🏾♂️💯 SKOL VIKES
Minnesota's schedule is charmin soft for the rest of this season.
Colts
Jaguars
Titans
Bears x2
Cardinals
Falcons
Seahawks
They will have 10-11 wins in hand before their final games vs GB and at DET.
The lions absolutely mauled the d line. Just about every play a holding could easily been called
There might be differences in how a pocket collapses depending on the O-Line. The Vikings O line is very weak inside so maybe that makes it impossible to escape by stepping up.
This guy knows what he’s talking about but it’s important to also emphasize the bright side
Lions are great and the rams are damn good when not hurt, im not worried
It seems like KOC goes for the homerun every play. If he can implement pass plays that dont take 4.5 seconds to develop i think the offense will be just fine.
Also his midgame adjustments have been a problem his entire time in MN, hes got to do a better job taking what the defense is giving.
I agree he struggles with adjusting - that’s why we always have a great 1st quarter and sometimes good 4th quarter- quarter 2 and 3 always stagnates which tells me he’s not adjusting to the defensive adjustments well
I noticed that when they were playing the Lions. I thought it was just because Minnesota figured Detroit wouldn't have much of a pass rush without Hutchinson but it seems they do it all the time.
very good/well produced & narrated video, thank you for sharing... whatever your name is 🤷🏻♂️
Atleast Vikings did not blown off by the lions. And could’ve easily won if had more time. Let’s not panic! rams one was tough cuz they got puka and Kupp back,, let’s not forget rams were hot last year!
U have to mention Cashman. His pre snap reads is what we have been missing
Really appreciate your channel and insight. Always objective and realistic. Your content is some of my favorite when it comes to football. Lions fan here and I gotta say the game against Minnesota has been one of my favorites this season because of the hype. Keep it up.
Lions fan too. Agree with all of this.
Thank you so much!
@ you’re one of the few NFL creators that actually makes insightful content and doesn’t regurgitate what everyone else says. i actively look forward to your videos. thank you for creating or else i wouldn’t have an opinion of my own 😂
Do a video on the ineptness of the Raiders O, Getsy and Minshew. I love a good hate watch
2 losses and both losses were close. This overreaction is mad.
It's really not an overreaction lol
@FootballAnalysis1 2 close losses... And they still put up great offense. They could easily be undefeated still... If the vikings are at risk then the bills, Ravens, KC, and Niners are pure garbage. Those teams have bigger holes than the Vikings do.
@@FootballAnalysis1yes it is lol, can’t believe your job is to talk about football lol, you are such a reactionary it’s ridiculous
Ya never know…
4:25 I gain more respect for your football commentary every video 😅
Feels like an annual thing to have the Vikings get off to a great start and then slowly fizzle out
The Vikings offense is on the field too little. This means the D has to be on the field too long. That is a big problem.
D has to get themselves off the field
my framed AP jersey by my TV is a great reminder every week. "we aint sh*t and we wont ever be sh*t"
They lost last week because the refs were absurdly soft while also missing obvious fouls from the other team
i’m a fan of your channel and a texans fan so naturally, the last couple vikings games have been hate watches for me
not to ignore the issues you brought up but in my eyes they only have one legit loss and that’s to the lions, they had a chance agains la but got hoed. the record is the record at this point but i think this team will still make the playoffs. that said i don’t think anyone outside of minnesota thought this team would win a chip this season in the first place
If Kirk Cousins was their quarterback, they'd be a Superbowl contender. They are not a Superbowl contender with Sam Darnold. You're seeing the drop off with your WR's because you lost a 4-time Pro bowl QB.
Surely Flores fixes the defence quickly by yelling everyone how bad they are 🤭 No but seriously, great video and great channel! 💪
Flo took the restraints off Dallas Turner vs the Colts. Disruptive to say the least. Played very well
Couldn’t take my eyes off Dallas when he was on the field. Real joy to watch
I say this out of love, but every time I hear you talk, all I can hear is the moose from brother bear lol
We cant have 3 or 4 drives straight where we are 1st and 20 or 2 and 15
9:21 Jordan Addison is going through what Nico Collins did the oc had Collins running to the sideline every play coaching really does matter
Thank you Chris I agree! Just frustrated with the offense not being able to execute for half the game!
Two losses and now we are saying the vikings are not competitive sorry that vikings barely didn’t beat the lions and got beat by one of the best offenses and also a bad penalty that stopped a potential over time
Not once in this video did I say they weren't competitive lol. In fact at one point I said there's a good chance they start out 9-2
Tbh the Vikings have already far exceeded expectations for them this season so they should hang their hats on that and build upon that
We’re 5-2 we’re ok when we’re 5-5 then I’ll worry
get ready
The Vikings will most likely win the next three pretty handeldy
One day i wont feel pain bcs of this team
What is with you and worrying about the Vikings losing to 2 good teams?
This the kind of fear id expect from losing to the Panthers, not the Lions and Rams. Godawful takes.
It’s really not lol just wait
Curious what your thoughts are on KAM. His salary cap management has been great. His FA signing has been very good. His trades have been so-so. But his drafts have been awful (pending JJ and hopefully Turner).
The Honolulu flu is real lmao
The Vikings of old would dominate during the regular season losing no more than 2 games but come the NFC Championship or the Superbowl, they'd come up very short or be completely and utterly outclassed by other teams
This is what happens when you draft a player based on potential instead of production on the field
Take a drink every time he says, "and to be honest"
I genuinely think the vikings defense has been our biggest problem these 2 losses (That and Sam not being able to go through his progressions). In both the lions and chargers game their offenses were allowed to throw practically as many times as they wanted for as many yards as they wanted. We have no secondary, and I really don't think Brian Flores is this mastermind people make him out to be, considering all he seems to know how to do is blitz. The man can't call any deep coverage or frankly any pass coverage whatsoever.
Would you consider doing a video on the hail mary that tore my heart out?
I think it's pretty easy. On that play the offense will always have a guy who stands behind the group that actually goes up for the ball in case it gets tipped. The Bears didn't cover that guy.
The Vikings are NOT struggling. They are just in mid-season form. This has been the one consistent about the Vikings for the last 20 years. C'mon, man!
"... as Caleb develops."
You know he's a Bears QB, right?
And he’s developing just fine… quit being slow in the head pea brain.
Maybe he meant... "into a Steeler..."
I would agree if the Vikings expectations were Super Bowl or bust . But let them figure it out
I’ll give u cam Sutton for Jordan Addison
I think youre just underestimating Detroit. The titans are bad but 52 in 3 quarters is an insane offense.
i think it’s just a hangover from playing the lions
The Vikings defense has been ass the past 2 weeks. They have been exactly what we thought they would be in the off season. Especially, a below average secondary.
Insert Shannon sharpe meme of that look like, I told you so
I mean the lions game was a nail biter off the bye week and they had to play a HEALTHY rams team that Detroit didn’t 4 days after with an awful call. This was a rebuild year and they’re still 5-2 with Sam darnold. Regardless of how you spin it they’re playing better than most teams for what everyone expected.
Losing two games isn't really struggling. Especially the L to the Lions
I herd you say something about someone on the rams defense possibly rookie of the year. I would say go watch texans corner kamari Lassiter. He may not have crazy stats but he has been a shutdown corner this year
They haven’t had their green dot (Blake cashman), the last two losses. This is the biggest reason why.
Not the defense we need to score more when meet a good Team like lion and the rams😊
That step up and drop back flow that bflo is doing leaves holes, a quick cover mlb (cash) and more pass rush (?) will alleviate the pressure on the cbs.
But, vikes be vikes...
Offense, koc is not innovative. Sunday we will see....
Hot take:
Packers will miss the playoffs but every other team in the division willl finish with a 10-7 or better record and make it.
Oconnells always been good at scripting, but not actual playcalling
Flacco is starting for Indianapolis this weekend so probably 5-3
The Vikings were never supposed to be a great team this year. They have been for the first five weeks. The wheels may be coming off slightly but I'm confident they can make the playoffs and if they do this season is still a massive overachievement.
A win is a win.
Rent was due
Josh Mettelus NEEDS to go, his positioning on field is often horrific
JJ McCarthy is going to win this franchise 1 if not multiple Superbowls
This is a very negative vikings
