- King Charles has spoken of his "intense pride" in presenting all three services of the Armed Forces with new Standards and Colours.
The Royal Navy, the Life Guards of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, The King's Company of the Grenadier Guards and The King's Colour Squadron of the Royal Air Force were all recipients.
The event on Thursday began with Charles's arrival in the Quadrangle of Buckingham Palace, announced by a fanfare by the state trumpeters of the Household Cavalry.

Is the King carrying a Field Marshal's Baton? If so, I was not aware the British Army had Field Marshal Batons. Germany and France had them.
Edit: I have just been reminded of a very basic fact which clearly demarcates King Charles' ARMY uniform - specifically that of a Field Marshal. The baton he carries is therefore exactly as you said, a Field Marshal's baton. I will otherwise leave my original answer unaltered below as I am happy to be on record for my original Comment which will hopefully provide more nuanced guidance on the topic than if I merely overwrote it. This is also as the information about his holding of the top rank in all three branches is true, as is those three ranks individually entitling the holder to a baton. Regarding the analysis on why I rather carelessly advised it was his Fleet Admiral uniform was he was of course a serving Naval officer but more so still is the (also correct) remarks on the seniority of the Royal Navy over the other two branches. Therefore I admit to remaining at a loss on how to explain the reason for the King's wearing of his Army uniform instead of his Naval one.
You've nearly right - as a Field Marshal, Marshal of the Royal Airforce and Admiral of the Fleet, he could I think have opted for the uniform of any of them. It just so happens that the Royal Navy was created before either the Army or Airforce and is therefore the so-called Senior Service. It is very likely therefore that it is on that basis he is wearing a Naval uniform as the personnel of the other two Services can see that there is an objective reason for that. By contrast, had the King worn the Marshal of the Royal Airforce uniform, that could be interpreted as a personal choice and thus risk offending both the Navy and Army.
It is not however, that Charles, as explained above, happens also to be an Army Field Marshal that he carries the baton you refer to. The top (Five Star) ranks of each of the Services is entitled to carry one. Therefore the object which you ask about is his Admiral of the Fleet's baton.
@@mrkiplingreallywasanexceed8311 No, the king is wearing an Army uniform. Look at his trousers. The British Army has the red stripes on trousers. The Navy wears gold/yellow stripes on trousers.
When the King carries the scepter, it is as sovereign of the realm, so look for the royal scepter during ceremonial state events. The King carries the naval baton in most military ceremonies
@@black10872You are absolutely right! Gaahhh!😆 I make no excuse (it's just not difficult to spot) and offer only the explanation that he was presenting the Standards for all three branches and of course, he served in the Royal Navy.
It's also true he holds honorary five star rank in all of the three Services and that all three of those ranks would individually entitle him to carry the baton.
However to be clear, it is his Field Marshal's uniform in the film and therefore he carries his Field Marshal's baton.
I am grateful for the correction, done graciously I might add.
@@mrkiplingreallywasanexceed8311 The Field Marshal rank is very unique amongst European powers. To my knowledge, France was the first to use it in the 17th century I believe. Then came Prussia followed by Czarist Russia because Czar Peter III had a serious man crush on Frederick the Great. Which is why the Russians still March in a modified Prussian style. Great Britain's equivalent was Quarter Master General until.... 1741 I think. The US never had Field Marshal or an equivalent to that rank until WW2. It was controversial in the US because many felt that no officer should outrank the very first Commander In Chief. Washington was a Lieutenant General. Which made him the highest ranked general in the Continental Army. Lieutenant General was only used in times of war. When at war, the Lieutenant General (appointed by the President) would be declared as General In Chief of the Army. Ulysses S. Grant was the last General In Chief until WW1. Then came Pershing who was the first to be awarded 4 stars. The fourth star came with the title GENERAL OF THE ARMIES OF THE UNITED STATES. With this rank, Pershing effectively outranked Washington. So congress switched Washington to GENERAL OF THE ARMIES OF THE UNITED STATES. So now Pershing, Grant, and Washington are the same rank. The fifth star came with WW2. Pershing who was still alive at the time was not elevated to a fifth star. He kept the title GENERAL OF THE ARMIES OF THE UNITED STATES but his 4 stars were switched to gold. No other general officer is allowed to wear gold stars. The fifth star for each service GENERAL OF THE ARMY, GENERAL OF THE AIR FORCE, FLEET ADMIRAL is only used officially when there is a full mobilization. That's also when the army's official name is switched to ARMY OF THE UNITED STATES aka GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC.
The Queen has my colors from my first day to my last day.

His family is an embodiment of the nation, they are though from childhood the best ways to make the country united, something a president wouldn't ever be able to do.

@@PROVOCATEURSK Well, it's more complicated than that.
The public eye isn't always the best in deciding the best head of state. The benefits of him being born into power are:
-There is a reduced risk of corruption.
-They are politically neutral and therefore do not alienate any of the population.
-He is raised for duty and service and is therefore more qualified than an elected official.

What happens to the old/previous colours and standards?
Museums mostly.
Probably locked in a vault or displayed at the Tower of London or big official museums
Veterans might wear them at ceremonies. They are put on display at museums and stuff like that.
There's a strict protocol around it. They're "laid up" with appropriate ceremony and often displayed in a regimental chapel, church or cathedral.

@@user-zy8cy6hn6o I will not say you are correct. But I will say that in the past congress had issues of the Presidency looking... too royal or imperialistic. For example, I believe Woodrow Wilson was the first to make the annual STATE OF THE UNION address. Before him, presidents would send a speech to the SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE. The SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE would make the speech to congress. Washington did it this way, and the successors followed his example.
