- The free rig is a very popular technique both here in the US and as well in Japan. The Japanese have come up with a new way to rig the free rig to show the fish something slightly bit different and to hopefully get more bites!

It's true !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure if you guys are aware of the fact that free rig was invented and widely applied by S. Korean fishermen and then adopted by Japanese fishermen years ago.
The way US fishermen see and use free rig is quite different from how we use it in Korea.
There are many variations for free rig but the most popular one is to use 3-4 inch straight soft bait. 12-14 lb fluoro line and 2/0-3/0 EWG hook with 1/4-1/2 oz tungsten sinker.
We prefer dragging it to hoping and letting it fall all the way, especially in this time of year for more subtle presentation.
There are soft baits designed and manufactured specifically for free rig by Korean pros who won the AoY in KSA.
Perfect~!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I been on this free rig for about 6 months now. Especially in the colder weather it seems to give a much needed different approach. Love it around rocks and timber where ledges are.
Thanks for the great tips and tricks! Awesome video
Thanks for watching 👊🍻
Just thought about this the other day. Going to try a light free rig this spring. It’ll get em.
I’ve used the skirt from a hula grub on my free rig before. It worked pretty well.
Always the highlight of my day is when you guys put out a video.
Thank you for watching!
Had to say ditto me too man whenever I look at my notifications I see a hook up tackle video I go oh click at whenever I'm sneakin a break in the bathroom at work lol
Love it. Great tips! 👍
Thanks for the video, I’ve fished free rig for two and an half years now and by far the best bait I’ve used is Zman Bugz, it floats, it got moment and it holds up very well.
I’ve also switched over to 95% bait caster for free rig with as light weight as possible.
Lovely technique!
Thanks for the video, I just grabbed a rod from the garage and I'm about to rig up a free rig for my next trip
Excellent!
@@thehookuptackle_usa I'm really glad I found you guys. I mean I was trying to get into the JDM thing I just couldn't find an outlet that I can get information from like I can from you guys. I've been a fan of the store and your guys since the first video I ever watched I think a couple years ago now.
Anyway that's all You guys just open my eyes and let me see all the creative stuff is coming out of Japan and not just Japan here too. Last spring I did do well with the full size cover scat. Man... I caught 6 fish all over 6lbs with the largest being 8 and 1/2. In the span of about 4 trips. This spring I'm hoping to kill them with a bull flap. I haven't had a season like that ever and I've been bass fishing since I was 6. 42 years ago. Sorry for a long ass message. Laters
Love this idea, but I couldn’t find the Dolive Craws in 3.5 or 4” in the colors I wanted with skirts🤷🏻♂️
Awesome thanks 👍
Love the thought of a swimbait on the rig. I have had great success with the scented jerk shad. I’m wondering if a rubber bait with a paddle tail would fall even slower due to the water displacement/ resistance. Like the bellows swimmer??
You guys are the reason my savings never goes up
there is no such as "free " with bass tackle.
I like to use a bead above the knot so the weight doesn't get caught on a stop and for that extra little tick sound 😉
Just went back and watched the original video that got me into free rigging it was Shin Fukae and he gave credit to South Korea for the rig being created there.
Really wish I could get my hands on a few 7” spark shads!!
You can always nose hook that shad!! Especially if you’re smallmouth fishing 😁
that is bad ass, gonna try that
In this case he's not talking about the origin of free rig. He's just introducing Japanese products related to jika rig which is the modified version of free rig.
Great vid
Thats crazy. Ive been doing that for a while not even knowing what a free rig was 😂
Gary yakamoto has a palstic skirt and i use the beavers and ive done this unknowing. Awesome that it has an actual name
Somebody, please tell this guy the Free Rig started using for the first time by a Korean ProBasser and he is still alive.
Very cool
drop shot and an earthworm it's all that i need for 6 months a year. For the rest of the year i use spinners and minnows or cranks . I am so comfortable and I'm catching fish with those techniques that I stopped searching for other fishing methods.
Super random question does lucky craft still make the chinu v50? I’m trying to find a good finesse lipless
How long fluro leader do you guys go with something like the free rig what knot to braid
I’m here and ready to go down any rabbit hole you want.
I'm surprised you guys don't suggest the Dolive Shad for the same horizontal fall. Though i guess it'll be a Dolive Free Rig video, nothing wrong with the T pose!
Thats what i found works at my lake super good. Im sad now everyone knows 😂. 5/8 for the win for the weight tho
Hi do you think this technique would work for UK bass saltwater.
Are you guys stalking me? Or like mind readers or something? I literally just got into free rigging and was hopping there you guys would do a cool new video on it lol.
Maybe…
Hook Up Tackle! I’ve been free rigging since 2019 when I saw a RUclips video of a guy from Japan who claimed to have created the rig. Caught a lot of fish on it since then.
I do something similar with a slide weight & bobber stops
Wish I could still find the Decoy Blade Sinker in lighter sizes. Smashed during the fall transition on a free rigged 3.5 dolive stick one year. Lost all the ones I had and now I can't find them. :(
Would like to see a video on the Ryugi Black Beans weights. Haven't seen much on them but they do seem like an improvement over a usual bullet weight.
I need a scorecard to keep up with all the Japanese techniques!
The only technique I wanna learn is that ramen noodle worm 😂😂😂 really doubt you’d bring it in, but it looks so funny and cool.
When free rigging the spark shad, which is my favorite paddle tail of all time btw, I wear em out with the little 3”, are you using a normal ewg hook? Or a weighted swimbait type hook?
Usually unweighted to give it some hang time
Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative to tungsten weights with the circular eyes. Thx
I use the free rig all the time. One modification I would suggest is to use a buoyant plastic like a Zman or similar. Then you can keep it in a single place and pull the weight down and let it float back up. Killer along the edges of pads and mats.
That's my juice right there. Smh Wormz get smashed doing this
I always preferred naked beavers, but I think I’ll give the skirted option a try.
Variety is a good thing 😜
Heck yeah man thanks for the info. Looks good 👍. Late.
Thanks for watching!
Free League is an action method created in Korea by Baspro Kim Seon-pil. It was not created in Japan.
How is this action different to a Texas rig?
HI, what kind of main line do you use for this technique?
I usually use straight fluoro on my casting gear. 14-16lb usually
please tell me what hook you use for the 4" beaver on this free rig ?? thank you
3/0 bellow hook or infini
@@thehookuptackle_usa ok thanks
What casting combo would you recommend for free rigging?
MH jig and worm rod. I use the Destroyer FMJ
When I asked a local hammer about free rigging he send me links to The Hook Up Tackle articles.
👍👍
My parents did the "Shimmy" Shimmy Shimmy CoCo Bop! Lol! Great video and if I was in the water and saw that Punch Skirt Beaver, I WOULD HAVE HIT THE SHIT OUT OF IT AND SWALLOWED IT HOOK LINE AND SINKER! ❤ Gotta have it and fish Pyramid Lake, Los Angeles County and hit some BASS! I LOVE the way that moves!
💯💯💯
Not drinking. Just hanging with ol' Herb
Looks like other people thought of my free jigging idea. Great minds think alike I guess.
Here's to Ben!
Anyone else have any issues with the weight sticking to the knot or bobber stop an not breaking free and letting the bait be weightless?
Lemon shad @ 4” can you add that to my order so I don’t have to pay shipping ?
Good morning. Thank you for your business. If you can email the store they can help you with your order 👍
Ha! I just bought your skirts to try this. I thought I was onto a new idea. Nope. Japan!
The more water resistance the lure has….the better.
I need me a way to get in touch with SLP… I have a ryoga in need of fix and pizzazzing. Spanky at takletrap does my JDM stuff…. If anyone needs JDM reels fixed, spankys that dude! However, I would love to have SLP build up ryoga. For the sweet love of mercy… help me get in touch with them
I was just working on a list of stuff to order from you guys, looks like it just expanded by about $100!
Are you guys coming to the Wisconsin fishing expo?
What's the heaviest weight you would use for "power fishing" a free rig? 10g-14g?
1oz. You can accomplish a lot with 1/2-3/4oz stuff
🍻🍻🍻
👊🍻
Free rig invented after Japanese angler accidentally leaves his box with worm slip sinkers at home
Thanks for your great video. But I want to tell you the truth, ' the free rig' is made and used by one of pro angler in S. Korea. And still most popular way in the country.
******If you see this, please fix the title of this video.
Thanks & Cheers.
So basically free rig a Yamamoto Hula grub will accomplish the same look.
I dont see a difference between a freerig a texas rig besides the shape of the weight or maybe im not seeing something
That is the difference. Each weight shape performs differently underwater. A Texas rig weight falls much more diagonally back towards the angler and excels in heavy vegetation. A tear drop weight will fall almost straight down which is the main draw for the technique, and is also much more effective around rocks, the tear drop weights much easier to pop out. Also you would really never peg a freerig weight on the line like a Texas rig.
Huge difference. We’ve made a ton of videos on the differences if you’re curious. There’s a difference in the way in moves on the bottom, a massive difference when there’s separation from the weight, it’s a far more accurate presentation, and it’s much more snag resistant.
@@thehookuptackle_usagenuine question, how is it more snag resistant if the weight is hanging off the line instead of “aerodynamically” inline with the line and also semi protecting the hook from snagging?
A bullet weight will slide on the line causing your bait to have a direction (towards you) as it falls. On a free rig I believe because all the weight is concentrated on a single point of your line (the millimeter where the eye holds onto your line) as the free weight falls, it causes a much more vertical pull on your bait (so a slightly heavier weight then you would think is ideal on a free rig to ensure a very vertical fall), and because it’s verticalAND your lure is (ideally) flat bottomed and on an ewg, it will have a very random/ natural fall, instead of the predictable/ rhythmic fall of a Texas rig
@@genesis4gz it’s the shape of the weight. When you use a straight drop shot style weight with a round eye it doesn’t wedge itself into a a rock. Also say your hook is snagged it acts more like a lure retriever and pops the hook loose. You just have to try it. It really is the best way to drag bottom and not be retrying your baits all the time. I might lose two in a 12 hour day of casting and dragging.
Killing me, love you guys but you have no pinch skirts ?????
Bass tournaments are driven by electronic companies not by fisherman anymore. No more kvds, hackneys, clunns. It's a damn shame.
Jacob Wheeler .. he just won last month!!
I'm more interested in watch Jeff lose more of those expensive swimsuits I laughed I cried I've been there
Freerigging padletails seperates u from the pack. Cats out the bag.
이리 멍청하니 진주만 쳐 맞았지 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ kkk
Free rig is the first rig developed and used in Korea It's not the rig that was first developed in Japan. It's misinformation
Nothing new bud! Same thing as not pegging a bullet sinker been doing it for 30 years!
It's a Texas rig. 🤦
NOT NEW
Its not japanese!
Free rig is from S.Korea~ Not japan~~
Could the intro be longer? Intros are for capturing viewers who were flipping channels between programming on the hour on regular TV back in the day. Waste of time on RUclips.
Id rather just have a zero gravity slow sink jig.
'Free rig' was from korea. Created by professional Seonpil Kim. He was korean.
