First seen this exact video in 2008. It is now 2019. Can't believe I am seeing the exact same thing I have witnessed when I was a lot younger. Thank you internet! Thank you youtube! Long love Paul Gilbert!
Pauls sence of humor is absolutely refreshing--if he put his mind to play anything I am sure he could get close but having fun is what it is all about....isn't it?
Yuri Sa: this is Paul Gilbert, a legendary guitar player beyond your perception and possible understanding but do not worry - with adequate attitude you can appreciate him in future!
I guaranatee.. nobody person who tell it's a BAD the shred... even jazz guitaris.. calassic guitaris.. Rock guitaris.. dankdut guitaris..Jimi Page.. Tomi Lommi n own Spice Girl certainly say... IT'S SORELY AMAZING SHRED...SO F"""N AWASOME... Paul make a better than original song... ARE U AGREE...???
I swear Paul is holding back. I don't think he's ever been recording TRULY going full on balls to the wall shred. I assume it's to avoid crushing the dreams of aspiring guitarists.
you say that but there's a few of his more intense solos that he simplifies heavily live so if he wasn't already going balls out on racer X studio stuff i'm surprised, in theory if that stuff wasn't the maximum and was fairly easy for him then it he wouldn't have to dial it down to such an extent live, examples like street lethal and poisoneyes
You haven't seen what he's done before this. Paul always jokes around a lot and when someone does that you get in the mood to laugh at everything. It's like going to a comedy show. Some stuff you see you wouldn't laugh at if your mates told you but you would if you saw it in a theatre.
You are extremely helpful and I appreciate your willingness to explain this chord. So again I say THANK YOU and BEST WISHES although you weren't talking to me directly.
it is an E-minor string skipping arpeggio with an extra note added in. that extra note is A. On the G string pick down on the 14th fret and hammer on the 16th and 18th. then on the high E string up pick on the 14th fret. quickly down pick again on the 18th fret on the G string and pull off to the 16th then the 14th. loop that over and over except don't down pick again on the 14th fret on the G string like I said in the beginning just continue to hammer on the notes on the G string. D tuned BTW
you man, you are amazing. P.G isn't just a great guitar player. He is different from other guitar monsters because he rocks the songs that he plays..he doesnt mean long boring guitar solos..
paul doesnt do enough chicken pluckn...i love bucketheads stuff...buck has bad ass panatonic shit!shred to melodic to hip hop to metal to country...i dont ever know if the people i talk to have heard most of bucketheads stuff but really he is very very full of variety
Why do people give us bad rep for discussing what pickups Paul uses? I had a think about it, and with the amount if different guitars that Paul has in his collection, he probably uses many many different pickups in all those guitars. But the PGM301 comes with two Dimarzio PAF pros and a Jem single coil, I think the next guitar I purchase will be a PGM model, I used to dislike them, but they really have started to grow on me, and I like the maple fretboard to!
Melanie C (Sporty) and Emma (Baby) do write arrangments. Actually, Mel C is a rocker chick. Her last two albums are gearing towards electropop with guitars. Geri (Ginger) is the main lyricist - "2 Become 1" lyrics were mainly written by her.
i just noticed after watching this video again, is paul playing thru a mesa boogie duel/triple rectifier,, im sure thats its a boogie that sitting at his right hand side... though it doesnt matter what kinda amp paul plays thru, he sounds amazing thru any amp, be it laney, marshall, mesa, vox etc etc...
OMFGGG I LOVE PAUL!!! He knows all of the fucking spice girls. That's friggen amazing. He's hilarious, FRESH OF THE TRED MILL! Bahahhaah He's so sporty. Love him. Fuckin' Wow. Good man. Good song.
I saw him do this at a guitar clinic put on by Long and McQuade in Toronto June 1999. Wonder if this was from the same series of clinics?? Amazing show.
Paul enjoys every single note that he plays! You can see that from 06:15, when he does that bend, it probably sounded funny to him coz you can see he smiled a bit! :D
@Brewmaster757 I didnt think of that. I thought it was a way of tuning. I usually bend and wiggle the strings to tune mine so I can hear the resonance better, rather than a single tone.
You are right he does not use a tremolo bar. He had a version of his PGM built with a Floyd Rose years ago to see if he could adjust to having one. I guess he decided to go without one after all.
I can understand his thinking. Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, as well as many others has theirs and they still jam. On John Petrucci's guitars he has the old strat style that does not require alot of work to detune. Just a thought. I agree he does sound great with his setup. Personal preference for everybody.
15yrs and I'm still going back to this song!🤘
Fuck yeah dude this is one of Paul's greatest cover
10years have passed and I'm still listening to this song.. ❤
11 years...and I'm still coming back to it too! :D
11 years and one month and we are still here...
12 years lol
Try 13 years
14 years, this counting will probably never end kk
13 years ago this vid was uploaded and still up to now one of the best vid here on youtube. Who agrees with me?
That last solo! So inspiring! I never get tired of watching this.
Paul is not only a great composer,musician,guitarist...He's also a great comedian!
First saw it when it came out, still listening to it today 🥰

Thank you youtube!
Long love Paul Gilbert!
I think I watch this video at least once a year. Here I am watching it in 2020. Gotta love Paul Gilbert!
Damn I love how that G # minor 11th chord sounds w/Gilbert's tone. One of my all time favorite guitarists.
Paul is probably my favorite guitarist. He can shred, yet do it in a pop song. None of the other "shredders" can do that
i dont think i've ever had so much fun watching someone tune a guitar. lol
Holy shit Paul Gilbert knows his Spice Girls.
Isn't this like the greatest moment for music ever? I don't know... it feels really big for just a lost RUclips video.
Pauls sence of humor is absolutely refreshing--if he put his mind to play anything I am sure he could get close but having fun is what it is all about....isn't it?
A sweet stairway to become one.
Wow , Amazing Song from spice girls , and i 'm so speechless with Paul Gilbert that's was awesome .

Great Musician.
He also played stuff by Christina Aguilera, Paula Abdul, ABBA in some of his shows.

Yuri Sa: this is Paul Gilbert, a legendary guitar player beyond your perception and possible understanding but do not worry - with adequate attitude you can appreciate him in future!
I love this guy, wtf
This is such a beautiful song.
I guaranatee.. nobody person who tell it's a BAD the shred... even jazz guitaris.. calassic guitaris.. Rock guitaris.. dankdut guitaris..Jimi Page.. Tomi Lommi n own Spice Girl certainly say... IT'S SORELY AMAZING SHRED...SO F"""N AWASOME...

paul gilbert.. hands down ♥
You haven't seen what he's done before this.

That would be mega f**kin cool. Paul can make anything cool and fun. His humor is great and his knowledge is endless.
Of all shredders, only Paul Gilbert can put these 3 bands into one song 😂😂😂
He does good work with the guitars volume. That tone owns.
He owns that guitar. True master. Incredible talent!
Thanks so much for posting this great video of Paul!
It's my first time seeing this video and it's really good...
I love his rendition.
Best version, for sure!
that was fantastic!!!
That guy at 0:23 knows exactly whats coming up
this is the best damn cover of any song i have ever heard!!! paul gilbert is the master!!!
My God, he is a funny guy.
Paul is the best.
You are extremely helpful and I appreciate your willingness to explain this chord. So again I say THANK YOU and BEST WISHES although you weren't talking to me directly.
The Spice Girls are now officially declared awesome, because PG likes them :P

i never thought i would ever actually want to hear a spice girls song lol
Damn this hits hard
It's BAD-ASS when Paul Gilbert plays it.
and now we wait for the spice girls to cover technical difficulties
sounds easy enough with the arpeggios
Stairway to heaven solo - Brilliant !!! This guy is a true genius and a guitar god !!

Sooooooooooooo Goooooooooooooooood PG!!!!!!!!!!! U ROCK!
4:22 *I sound so good, so turn me up!*
OMG,i did not expect him to utilise Stairway like that. Amazing.
Oh and by the way, the song is 2 become 1.
Paul is great!
At the Musikmesse Frankfurt he used a Marshall JVM, the sound was amazing
Sweet Leaf's riff at the end! 😂😂
And now we just need to get the Spice Girls to cover Technical Difficulties.
beutiful! hahaha paul gilbert is amazing and hilarious!!
paul doesnt do enough chicken pluckn...i love bucketheads stuff...buck has bad ass panatonic shit!shred to melodic to hip hop to metal to country...i dont ever know if the people i talk to have heard most of bucketheads stuff but really he is very very full of variety

holy shit, i did know paul gilbert was this versatile
hes a good singer other than being a BADASSS guitarist
Why do people give us bad rep for discussing what pickups Paul uses?

Only paul could make this song rock! :D
Go Gilberto!
It's so much fun watching him just have fun lol
OMFG he is amazing!!!
Actually, Sporty Spice has some remarkable R'n'B record out there. Of course, I can't imagine any of them writing the arrangements.
Mel C is amazing. Never Be The Same Again is a great song.

6:01! A bum note! He's human after all... :)
Man i love paul gilbert!

I love this song someday i made my own video 4 inspiration 4 my bands.
I'm gonna practice guitar for 3 years and about 12 hours a day.....Just to tune as fast as him
How's your progress?
Paul enjoys every single note that he plays! You can see that from 06:15, when he does that bend, it probably sounded funny to him coz you can see he smiled a bit! :D
absolutely amazing
2019 anyone?
6:30 "be a little bit wiser, baby; put it on". Put it on yourself, Paul ^_^
Thanks
Fuck this is really awesome.
He just made Spice Girls sound really awesome.
you gota love that machine gun picking hand
@ParabeII He's making the strings "settle" after tuning down. It keeps the strings from detuning during a song.
lol best spice girls song version i ever heard
I wrote in Paul for president.
@Brewmaster757
I didnt think of that. I thought it was a way of tuning. I usually bend and wiggle the strings to tune mine so I can hear the resonance better, rather than a single tone.
thumbs up for the guy who says "everybody knows sporty spice"
because he's the man.
You are right he does not use a tremolo bar. He had a version of his PGM built with a Floyd Rose years ago to see if he could adjust to having one. I guess he decided to go without one after all.
Or you could get his solo albums...
Acoustic Samurai, Space Ship One, Alligator Farm, Beehive Live etc.
All of him singing. And well, may I add.
It's great!You can see hes feelings :D.Great :).
cool. Paul's the man
Only he could get shread heads to request the Spice girls. Lol! Lub me some PG.
so cool!
Yes.
I can understand his thinking. Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, as well as many others has theirs and they still jam.
