I'm sitting near the front of the audience wearing a white shirt, white panama hat with a brown band. I was performing at the festival that night. This was the first time I heard Cecile. I was knocked out. I immediately spoke to Ed, her manager, about her performing with me at the Apollo that winter. The following Labor Day weekend Cecile joined my band for a set at this very same Detroit Jazz Festival--one of the highlights of my life. Kudos to Aaron and his trio. This is jazz at its best.
This is one talented woman! beautiful, well rounded voice, range - and picks some unusual songs - she can't be categorized. What wonderful things one can happen upon on RUclips!
I was gifted with a day at the festival along with my, then 14yr old, son who loves jazz music. We were happy to have experienced the sound and feeling of your voice and the talented band. ***ps...Thank actor James Spader for putting your name in the air when he was on The Tonight Show w/Jimmy Fallon
it's almost like hearing/ watching some of all the great female jazz vocalist from the past, being harnessed through that incredible instrument of hers. excellent performance!!
Le père de Cécile est Haïtien et sa mère, Guadeloupéenne 🥰. On la décrit comme franco- américaine mais elle est tout simplement d'une autre planète ! 💕💞
so thrilled to be moving from the West Coast to a community not far from Detroit, so I can share in these wonderful talents in person... I cannot wait to bob my head in rhythm and soak up every note! She's every natural thing I love about music.
When I was in high school (a long time ago) I ran across a 78 of Bert Williams singing "Nobody". I got the sadness of the comedy but couldn't fully appreciate why it was such a sensation at the time. This moving performance immediately showed me what went over my head before. It's a unique song that speaks lightly about serious things. Everyone can understand that the world sometimes feels like a cold place...that's universal...but the performer was a highly sophisticated man, a star, who had to wear blackface. His devoted audience might have been curious or even sympathetic but, still, they had not a clue. It's a pity it's all still so resonant. A very brave and difficult choice. It takes an artist of a very high caliber to pull something like this off. Very impressive and touching.
This kid is a mature of Sahara Vaughan and Betty Carter. The end of jazz is not near , this up and coming generation have pushed the boundary of jazz to the next level .It time to celebrate this talent and acknowledge that this kids are gifted with the best of both the old and the exposure.
I've never felt jazz could be fully appreciated in outdoor settings like that, but Cécile is a modern marvel. Her technique is impeccable, and she is such a well-educated singer. Fine trio of musicians accompanying her as well. Love the pianist.
yes,she has an impeccable technique, but the matter is that she really feels every single note she makes, and when you listen to her you feel the weight of those notes. She's completely sincere, she's deep, and that's very rare.
I get the comparisons to Ella because of her scatting and her incredible range, but my favorite moments are when she starts channeling Billy Holliday. But, comparisons aside, she is incredible in her own right. It didn't take long for me to become a fan.
I consider myself a jazz fan with a fairly decent ear. At about the 8:29 mark, Aaron Diehl says, "My bad." as if he made a mistake. I can only assume that he directed the comment toward the bassist, given that he looks in the general direction of the bassist when he says it. I can't hear an audible "My bad" moment. Maybe someone with better ears can point out what I seem to be missing.
I'm not sure, but I think that he should have finished his solo in 8:08, leading to the counterbass solo and instead of that, he continued playing for 8 bars.
Yesterdays. Sublime and ?Aaron s solo a delight so wonderful that Cecile does not call attention to herself during partners solos of course that us true fir ?Abbey ,Chris .Sarah ,Ella. But ...............

Great job, terrific! Bassist Jimmy Butts used to sing that Bert Williams song at the Cajun in NYC, as well as some other of Bert's songs.

muhteşem,after five years , she'll be number uno.
I met Cecile in the Detroit jazz festival shuttle going from the airport to the hotel. Life works in a funny way
This is real music.
I get the comparisons to Ella because of her scatting and her incredible range, but my favorite moments are when she starts channeling Billy Holliday. But, comparisons aside, she is incredible in her own right. It didn't take long for me to become a fan.
Aaron Diehl. He is brilliant!
very good :D
wowowowowow
Cecile, what`s the name of your musicians in this video?
I consider myself a jazz fan with a fairly decent ear. At about the 8:29 mark, Aaron Diehl says, "My bad." as if he made a mistake. Antonio Álvarez del Cuvillo you know what....I think you're right. You're very perceptive. I would have never guessed that.
Why the criticism?
Connects with Ms. Vaughn over the expanse of time.....
Aaron Diehl (p), Paul Sikivie (b), Rodney Green (d)
anyone know who the pianist is?
Aaron Diehl
gorgeous warmth !
I was here.
Real........
who's the pianist?
I would love to sing with you one day.
She's our Sarah Vaughan. In fact, she's a good mix of Sarah Vaughan, Dakota Staton and Diane Reeves.
Yesterdays. Sublime and ?Aaron s solo a delight so wonderful that Cecile does not call attention to herself during partners solos of course that us true fir ?Abbey ,Chris .Sarah ,Ella. But ...............
Well she just conjured the great Sarah Vaughn. Breathtaking.
Two haters so far....smh
WONDERFUL !
this clip is ALmost as good as seeing her live. such fabulous musicians, all of them!
