I set up my SG the same way, with a measurement of 12 thousands at the 7th fret when holding down the 17th. I like the string height between 4 and 5 on the bass side, normally just shy of 5. Then the high e will be set at the normal 3/64th's. My SG is a '61 reissue and the neck is of course pretty thin. You have to chase the neck, as it is always moving on these instruments.
I gotta say man. That is a very very pretty SG. Sorry about the ice. Here in Massachusetts no ice and snow. But it’s still too dam cold for April. Stay warm brother. Summers only a few minutes away
That probably explains why I saw a video of a guy ice skating on Dundas. LOL! Yeah we got ice here east of Niagara Falls, USA side, but more snow. Now it rained all day today like every where else.
So following your instructions with just coins and a ruler I tried to give my Ernie Ballsack Stingray a tune up . Know someone in Winnipeg I can take it to?
Hey Dave, just for us non Americans and Canadians, what are the measurements in millimetres ?

Watching Dave's video makes me want to go hands on my '70 SG standard.Watch Tony Iommi play his lefty, makes it look so easy to torture 40,000 people until they love it.How relevant even to this day WAR PIGS lyrics are. There's probably not a better ROCK guitar ever gonna be made.Your 'opinions' mean nothing if you don't own and play one. GO VINTAGE CaliforniaJam videos
I got lucky in my neighborhood we got a little freezing rain slash ice but very little compaired to a few miles either way.im not that far from you Dave mabe a few miles north only in michiga.we didn't get shit?
That is a true statement. They (SGs) DO not like that. The SG is a weird damn guitar. I do not know why. I think it is the wood is not aged or old. Mahog wood is nice and stable when it is old like the older Gibbies. I think so.

don't think that a measurement will bring you piece of mind. You have to do additional adjustments depending on the PUs, Strings, playing style. They're good to get to a starting point. than follow the steps of lindy fralin: watch?v=2biWMx6q8U8 I was after dave for the measurements too. They're helpful to see if it's way off. Make your own...ScrewMac's prices suck.
Pickups too far away sound worse than too close, to me. Just missing too much. Hopefully you don't take any offense, but after watching the rickenbacker videos, Ive resorted to calling the channel "Daves world of dumb stuff" dunno why it stuck. : )
I know that they are considered to be 'classic' guitars, but I have always found SGs to be one of the ugliest and least desirable guitar shapes ever made. The only time I considered buying one was when I was about 13 years old (I am 36 now)..and that was because I am left handed. Since finding decent left handed guitars used to be such a pain (pre-internet), I did consider buying one due to being able to flip one over..due to the double cutaway. However, I am glad that I held out and didn't end up spending a bunch of money on a guitar that I didn't find attractive. They usually sound nice though.
Me, I think they look OK but I don't like how they sound. I've played with guys with Standards and Specials, and I had a Special for a couple of years. Apart from the fact that it didn't sustain for more than one second on F# (anywhere), it had a poor sound. Nowadays, wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.
Personally I think they look bad ass but maybe that's from growing up on Angus Young. The sound and shape fit the persona of the band and him as a player. It's got devil horns, it's round but it's pointed and the edges are sharp. There's nothing soft about it.
Sounds like the way I feel about Rickenbackers. So fugly to me. However, I have never had a chance to play one. I hope so one day and I figure I will fall in love with it. Musical icons have played them, so there must be something there LOL
The G string on my SG took 3 beers to intonate.

That is the best sounding SG I think I have ever heard
Yeah it was chilly here today, didn't get out of the Sixties. I like sgs.

In Maine, ice here too. Pouring rain tonight now, should melt it as it will warm up over night.
great job dave
Could be a early beer time for Davie😂👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🍺
We had crappy freezing rain here in Maine today, car was an ice block this morning :/. Spring? Yeah right lol
Scraped my windshield in Westbrook and HATED it....
Here in the South we got your cold breeze pushed upon us, but hey it will be 81 Wednesday :>) So we aren't hating it too bad. Stay warm my friend
In BC we are starting to warm up but the flooding is going to be high this year
That's a lovely SG that one.
I love SGs!!! I own a few Gibson SGs, great guitars!
I do like D'Addario XL's - just put a fresh set on a custom build.
I had to raise the stop bar on mine as well.
Dave went over 100,000 subs. Congratulations
100k subs... woot!!!
BRRRR...it's 46 degrees in Nashville. GL Dave
I have a Yamaha bass that needs some serious work. Can I send it to you for an episode?

Great vid Brother, keep up the good work

Awesome video. That SG definitely sounds like it sings.
How much to rewire a Gretsch SuperAxe? I'm in Hamilton.
100k subscribers! congrats, man
You make it look to damn easy!
you didn't drop anything, that noise was the switch popping from the neck position to the middle position all by itself!
Well spotted!
Dave, how much fret munch determines a fret level job? Is there a rule? Or is that subjective? Thanks!
Dave's World of Fun Stuff , Dave, thanks! You're the best!

Dave if you don't mind me asking where did you get that drill attachment for string winding? Thanks!
Gloveberg musicnomad sells a great one that fits most tuners. I love the one I have.
Thanks buddy, definitely need to pick one up.
There's a reason it's called a g string...never stays on. Thankfully lol. Throat singing.
it was bad here in Detroit to plus no power just sucks for April
Dave, do you tune all of the guitars you setup/repair to 440?
Tries came off the car but but did you put away the ice scrapper ?
So how is the fireball two doing?
Nice sg
Old SG's are great guitars.
I got lucky in my neighborhood we got a little freezing rain slash
ice but very little compaired to a few miles either way.im not that far from you Dave mabe a few miles north only in michiga.we didn't get shit?
Maybe y'all should move to Texas. Hell, everyone else has.
im in buffalo ny we had that same shitty ice storm. how do i contact you about repairs?
Thanks Dave will do!
That should be an ABR bridge and not a Nashville shouldn't it?
Should have top wrap the strings. That or replace the nut.
" Crack that bullshit"- Dave

Probably has something to do with the very small overlap on the neck joint and double cutaway, not a lot of rigidity there.
Sounds like my first girlfriend !!
Minus the POLICE report an all !!!!
4/64ths lol. love how they dont just use metric or say 1/16th
guitar was built NOT USING METRIC
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff if you dig into it IMPERIAL WAS MADE WITH METRIC
I'm about 2hrs NW of you and we got slammed. It is incredibly sloppy, I am so happy I have AWD.
Southern indiana , low 30s lil bit o snow they say. Like the show dave, im a subr. Cheers
Glenn Winburn I'm in Corydon, we had ice all morning, snow all afternoon. All melted, and around 60 tomorrow!

No fun having to hold the guitar neck up and play at the same time :)
If you you got a good strap it's no problem. Or you can fix it by relocating the strap pin on the end by a few cm.
lol early bear time
can i ask you what gauges are those brass feeler bars on the key ring.
1/32", 1/16", 3/32" and 1/8"
Go to StewMac's website and type Pickup Clearance Gauges, they're there.

If its a G string or in a G string its gonna give ya trouble
An SG that doesn't need a fret level. I'm honestly shocked

I guess that's why they make a bunch of different guitars.. I love the SG.
sg's and teles are the most underwhelming expensive guitars i ever played
